We were too poor to see much of these fancy Beta VCRs back in the 80s, I only knew of one family who had a Beta, while the rest of us slummed with VHS - The 80s Sony high end machines were something else, but they were plasticky - your fix was quite effective, it did the job.

VHS was perfect Don't worry, you didn't miss anything without beta. Just useless options (Which were also available on high- end VHS machines).

I have one of these but something is wrong with the take up side. It doesn’t seem like the take up reel is advancing correctly and the tape bunches up. I’m assuming there’s a belt to replace but I have not idea how to get to it.

I don't think this chassis has any belts. Check the idler assembly, I think you access it from the bottom.

Wait... Is this a 711B3 chassis with a dedicated reel motor instead of a toothed belt going from the capstan motor to the reel drive clutch?

I actually didn't know the name of it until you said it just now, but yes! As far as I understand this was like the last Betamax chassis that Sony developed.

These are nice Betamax vcrs they playback B1s
@probnotstech3 жыл бұрын
Good to know. Too bad I don't have any tapes recorded in B1s or a VCR that can record it.

A lot of my tapes are recorded in B1SHB

I must REALLY be lucky with my SL-HF360 because it was bought in 1988 ad hasn't had a lick on trouble in.... 33 years. OMG it's almost hard to believe I've had it that long.
