I had a VCR downstairs that we stopped using after we got a DVD recorder - eventually the VCR just got unplugged and sat there. I tried plugging it in recently, and no power. With my limited knowledge I could tell the internal fuse was fine and the power was coming into the board, but couldn't tell what the actual problem was so junked the VCR. A second VCR I had developed bad capacitors in its power supply. After turning on, you needed to wait 5-10 minutes for it to warm up before you got a stable picture out of it. If you tried playing a tape straight after power on, it would eat the tape!

Wow, this sure brings back memories. I used to work at a Sony Authorized Service Center back in the 90's. Fixed tons of VCR of all brands. Never have I ever seen the problem with the upper bearing moving around. Guess age and time? Thanks for the video. Music Choice: I vote for the original theme music. New music sounds a bit generic. Watch out for them sharp pokeys !!

Since you ask... I like the old music better, the new tune sounds like the end music for the news while they pick up their notes and ignore the cameras. The old one, and the video montage, reminds me of when I got into video production in the 1990s, and Sony's new DMEs were the lastest thing out. I enjoy that nostalgic vibe of it.

The old will come back. I cringe when I hear my old stuff. Reinforces why I didn't become a professional musician but I would have loved to have been good enough to play jazz. The VCR jamming capstan fault reminded me of problems I had with some AG7750 SVHS Panasonic edit VCRs. Over time, cleaning the tape paths with alcohol some of it runs down the capstan shaft and dilutes the lubricant. The motor still played fine, though the driver IC ran hotter than it should. But during high speed it would often cause a shutdown. It took ages to track the fault down, the capstan still span freely, to my touch, but had a tiny bit too much friction for the motor. Comparing a good one to a bad one had almost no noticeable difference, but lubing the shaft completely cleared the fault.

This was original music I co-weoye for a community tv show. Recorded it at a friend's place in his studio (he is also a musician that does jingles for a living) I played the fender bass and synth drum pads. He played keys. I forget what we recorded on. I know he had a fostex 8 track but if i remember we recorded direct to the PC. He had a couple of FireWire interface cards and if i recall I had the bass plugged in direct. Protools i believe. He uses qbass these days. I have the master dat and it has 5 30s 3 stingers and the full theme.

Did a repair of a Sony Walkman II. Replacement of the cogwheel that breaks and makes it click. A nightmare to repair. Why? Because its so small! I'm getting older, need lenses and glasses to repair things. Next project is to repair a Sony TCD-D100 that eats tapes. My god its like a swiss watch. Hopefully just to put oil on the drum guide posts. Worst nightmares is the compact video cams. Flex boards that brake when you dismantle those damn things. But i do like Sony as I like small things.

In the years that I’ve bought Sony products, their earlier ones were better. This pertains to headphones 🎧 and Bluetooth speakers 🔊. When I bought a pair of headphones 🎧 back in the 1990’s, they were great 😊. When I bought a pair of Sony headphones 🎧 in 2007, the quality with the sound, took a flush down the toilet 🚽. That also goes for a Sony Bluetooth speaker 🔊 I bought a couple of years back. The sound was subpar. I was quite angry 😠 when somebody stole it off of my bike 🚴, when I was in the store 🏬, but I don’t know 🤷♀️ that it matters now. My brother 👨 bought me a JBL Flip 5, for Christmas 🎅 of that same year, because I asked. I always admired my brother’s JBL Flip 5. Instead of giving me his old one ☝️, he gave me a new one ☝️. I like 👍 the sea 🌊 foam green sort of color, and the sound is OUTSTANDING!! I guess JBL makes better products. Your friend, Jeff.

it is possible that you fell for bad caps. back in the 90s someone stole a formula for the electrolyte in capacitors and the formula was either incomplete or one of the many candidates . so now we have shoddy capacitors that leak and destroy circuit boards. you may want to inspect for leaky capacitors. storage should not cause the metal cap on top of the motor assembly to pop up. labs should not cause bruising however if you go in for a surgery and the sugar levels are off they may have to use an insulin pen to try to bring the sugar levels back and a side effect of the injector pen would be bruising. thankfully the power supply is shielded so it is safe to handle however in modern vcrs everything is on 1 board and the power supply is exposed so you have to be very careful handling the board.
@12voltvids Жыл бұрын
It was an disgruntal employee that left one capacitor company for another. He stole the formula but missed a key ingredient that kept the electrilytic stable in discharged state. When caps were sitting discharged the solution became slightly alkaline which ate the leads slightly and eventually the seal failed and corossive liquid spilled on the board and damaged it. Heard that one 25 years ago when the bad caps first started showing up.
