Thanks so much for doing this video! I don't have this exact Sony model. I have a STR-AV920 with a date code of one year earlier (0C) than your receiver (1C). My receiver works, but I'm getting some intermittent distortion in my headphones when the radio or CD player is on. I haven't hooked up any speakers yet. I don't have near the knowledge or experience you have, but you did give me some valuable insight into this models features and how these receivers work. Maybe, with some luck, I'll find the problem.

Interesting issue. These had common issues with ground screws. The screws holding the circuit board and heat sink on are all chassis grounds. Try to tighten them. I have this exact unit, with a 1D date code, and a smaller STR-AV570 with a 1A date code. What do the letters mean? Are they months? Quarter-years? They both work well, but I had to tighten 1 screw on my 570 after a relay started to click when the unit was in standby. The 970 has the “studio monitor” sound: very detailed and good soundstage, excellent sound. The EQ is really useful on it, because it can make bad speakers sound better. If there was a flaw, it might be slightly light on bass. The 570 has the “live band” sound: Emphasis on bass and treble. Really gets the speakers moving. If there was a flaw with this one, the controls are a bit overkill. If the bass knob is on max with the DBFB button on, it will clip unless muting is on.

The “Link” button links different sound/eq settings to different FM presets, if I’m not mistaken. You needed a separate control for the DRLC, which is the blue jack on the backside. Those are hard to come by now, unfortunately. I liked the antenna jacks on these, because you could just put speaker wire in them and it would pick up a signal pretty well, now they have those weird antenna plugs that are identical to a tv coaxial cable plug. Making an “antenna” that works with those is a bit more difficult.

is the rec very valuable or desirable in 2020? I have a AV920. I love old REC. I dont mind using Component . to bad it doesn't have a digital to the TV in out.

i have one, it nicer than the later model one i am using, but mine has an issue where it will partially light up and buzz threw the speakers and will wake you up in a hurry. so its not being used. i had read its a ground issue, im gonna look at it myself.

Hi, I have the exact model purchased new. Hooked it up and works fine. One Issue I noticed is that the red led on the volume button goes dim then bright. I am not sure if that is normal and appears to be when sound is playing. Seems to work fine, I did originally have it plugged into power strip and it would turn off, now it is directly to wall outlet and it does not turn off. Just the slight dimming of the led. Have you heard of this issue? Thanks

RG, Thanks for checking out the video! I seen that issue years ago but barely recall it, the LED may be built into the volume control unlike the older Pioneer's which have a wire connector, remove the knob and if the LED is embedded into the tip of the shaft you may wanna try to clean the volume control (if possible) I may have had to remove the VC and disassemble to clean it, there may be a separate wiper for the LED that would need to be cleaned.

@ luvradios, may i know if there was a power before you repaired this stereo and what component cause the power failure. thanks.
@luvradios7 ай бұрын
The main line fuse was blown due to the shorted outputs so there was no power.
@beausky41007 ай бұрын
@@luvradios ok thanks. shorted outputs was due to excessive use or too much volume.

Hey, I've a Sony STR DA 5300 but I dont have the remote. I can't test because it's stuck in "DUI" mode. How do i get it out of DUI? Without the remote?
@djijspeakerguy46282 жыл бұрын
Do you mean “GUI?” That’s what the forums say. Apparently, you need the remote to change this. If you bought this somewhere without the remote, return it. On many receivers, the remote is basically part of the unit. If it’s yours and you bought it or are out of any return windows, find someone who is selling the correct remote.
