Wow, you work fast! I ask for it, and a few hours later, you have one of the comparisons posted already! You really amaze me! The Audiolab may have slightly brighter highs, but the Sony seems to have fuller bass and midrange, and is just as punchy and dynamic. Pair the Sony with a pair of the Wharfedale D320s, and you'll have an amazing system for very low cost. They're both a steal at their price, and compete with and even outdo some components that are many times their price!

That is quite depressing. I don't care for the sound of the Sony and the audiolab is considerably more expensive. Thanks for all the work you do offering these comparisons!

I really like the Audiolab 6000A sound on the Metas. The Sony is no slouch though, I've had many good times with the STR DH190.

Same. If one must pick some difference, in the first song at the highest "... Remember me ...", the "me" with Sony sounds a little brighter. For the same reason, in the second song, the very weak metal clicking sound berried under heavy boom boom and "did it to my self" sounded a little more apparent with Sony. But, that could be how the music progresses.

Bass control goes to the sony and top end clarity goes to the sony too. The sony will pair better with english speakers that have a more subdued top end.

Le Sony est aussi bon que ce petit Audiolab qui fait payer chère une prestation correcte rien de transcendant. Bravo pour ce test.

Sounds the same with sony treble is up. And audiolab is sound like sony in flat settings. Sony is great with British speakers.

For me, avoiding listen fatigue in the higher-mid's is extremely important, so a nice ear-friendly smooth 1-3 kHz reproduction is a must for me. In this area, the Audiolab is the clear winner. Still well done by the cheap Sony.

Agreed, it is sort of splitting hairs when you A/B compare like this, but that strident high end accumulates over a 2 hour listening session and makes my ears ring. For me it's worth the extra $ for a smoother sound signature, and the Audiolab is slightly better in that regard.

I have that Sony amp in one of my systems. I just upgraded to a Yamaha s-701. The Sony is a little harsh in the high end, hence the upgrade. But it's a very capable amp for someone who likes a cheap amp and like a pronounced top end. That's just not me.

If you want to avoid harsh treble Audiolab, NAD and Rotel are good options. The cheaper Yamaha amps are knows for harsh treble like the Sony, so I hope the S-701 is better in that regard.

It seems there's a trace more definition from the Audiolab, but just a trace. An equally small tonal difference in the midrange makes me slightly favor the Sony with the LS50's. Probably not so much with other speakers. What is the price difference?

Wow.! Wow! That's a HUGE price difference, and a very small difference in sound quality, it seems. I'm sure the Audiolab has it's advantages, but Sony has impressed me. Thank you for the info!

How they sound when pushed hard???……does Sony harden the sound and Audiolab opens with great bass fuller midrange etc.???…..usually thats the case but at that sound level sound identical!
