I can tell that - after a long time my polk es20 loudspeakers is the best sounding for my whole Twin Peaks music collection.(All albums what released or connect somehow to the movie or the series)The es20 knows how to play dinamyc and detailed, long roll out on chello, sparkling cymbals, great and full bodied at bass guitair, enjoyable kicking when the bass drum beats. And the vocals..clear and direct with fine tone.Paired with neutral marantz pm7005.

Thanks for the comparison. My last amp was a Yamaha. I purchased the Emotiva today. I definitely see its appeal being slightly forward in the upper mids. It shines on recordings where vocals should be out front and deep percussion is either not present or less central. The Yamaha is capable of a warmer tapestry of sound, but gets a bit muddy at times. At least, that is what I hear.

Elacs have the better quality here. Elacs have better layering. Polks are bass which put a film over the mids. Elacs alive sounding.

Sound exactly alike. Hence their price is similar. The es has a fancier cabinet or look.

I guess this is where speaker pairings and music preference probably is more important. Based on this demo, It's the 6000A for sure for me. More balanced, controlled, airy, wider, separation, lows are more layered, better timbre, timings and dynamics. I guess you could consider them more neutral and "cold". The Brio has more of that warm blanket, many would describe that as "more musical", but not to me. More punch, narrow with a mid-bass bump which I usually find very tiring. Mids are nice though. Does work well with the "seasons" classical track, but falls a bit short in timing in rock songs. I guess both would work well depending on the speaker & music preference. I love my Audiolab 6000A's paired with Mission LX-2's. Excellent combo!

The imaging of the b6.2 is some what more transparent than the xt20...and I'm enjoying that where the xt20 is more flat and in your face.

Very good test, and nice variety of song choices. Well, I largely prefer how the Polks sound, and it makes me think that with high-end cables and amplifier, the difference will be even more flagrant.

The Elacs sound more natural, with better mids. They give you better depth perception of instrument placement. The Klipsch sound more canned with over-accentuated bass and brighter highs. The Elacs would be easier to EQ to taste. The Klipsch would fatigue my ears much quicker with their high treble.

Upper mids in the Polk are subdued. They sound a bit boxey at times, lots of mid punch. The 606’s are more “open”, high frequencies are a bit harsh, especially at higher volume. It’s all in what you want to hear the most.

Depending upon the music I can go both ways. Looking at both right now for living room and have owned R100 in the past. At current sale prices LS is more than 2x as expensive but fit better into our decor. For objective devotees, they both measure about the same overall with R100 slightly hotter up top on axis and LS50 having a wider vertical plot. R100 also has significantly lower and cleaner bass. In this asoect, LS50 needs 100hz or higher integration with sub.

I was expecting a bigger difference and a preference for the R3 3-ways-coaxial speaker design vs traditional 2-ways. Sound is subjective, and I can only compare the differences presented here. I like the R200 better, good job POLK. At first the R200 sounded recessed in the midrange, but in direct comparison, the R3 has an unnatural color/emphasis/shouty in the high-midrange to lower-treble that called attention to itself. The R3 high treble energy is also somehow subdued. The R200 is more neutral here. to me.

I own both. I purchased the Yamaha R-S202 during Covid-19 lock downs so my wife could have her girlfriends over and drink wine and paint in the basement! I bought the Emotiva BasX TA1 about 6 months ago or so. It was around the time that Emotiva lowered the price from $599 to $499 or so. The Emotiva is much better in every way but the Yamaha cost me like $249 so the Emotiva is double the money. The problem though is that both the Yamaha R-202 and the Emotiva BasX TA1 have harsh thin highs, weak mids and bass that lacks any warmth or texture. Neither of them are very dynamic and both are lacking the headroom you would expect at the power level they claim to put out. So yes the Emotiva is vastly better than the R-202 but neither of them are fantastic or standouts. The TA1 gives you a Pre-Amp so you can control other amplifiers should you want to or need to. It gives you a decent DAC not great but decent. It gives you bass managment. It gives you a reciever even if it is only FM and no AM. It gives you a lot of input options and some output options including a 12V trigger. Fantastic world class phono preamp! Where the Emotiva really fails though is the lack of quality pots/knobs and dedicated input controls. You have to go through a cheap, annoying, not at all well designed menu that just screams " I am cheaply made in China!". No pre-amp should ever be missing tone controls on the front!

The Emotiva is like lacks warmth and texture to the mids. The bass is punchy but has no texture. The highs are thin and tinny. If you try to fix it by adjusting the treble it just get's harsher and harsher 7 is as high as you dare go before you turn your tweeters into a weapon of mass destruction. On the Bass I have turned it up to 10 and it does not make the bass much better than at 3 or 4 and no distortion or clipping even with BASS HEAD music. No matter which control you adjust the mid's just seem to be staticly fixed. The sound stage lacks depth, width, and clear seperation between instruments and singers! This unit was purchased to replace my 1990's preamp and amplifier. My 1990's amp and preamp combined in 1990's dollars cost about the same as my Emotiva BasX TA1 in 2024 dollars. The Emotiva is not terrible but at the $500 to $600 price point and being made in China I do not think we are getting our moneys worth. You do not get a service manual orschematic or parts list and can not roll opamps! I do not think there is anything wrong with the unit outside of the sound concept of the engineers that work for Emotiva. The Yamaha in this instance sounds a bit warmer and more musical.

I own an Emotiva BasX TA1 for about 6 months or so. I think I like the sound of the Yamaha A-S301 better. If I could have heard the TA1 before I bought it I would not have purchased it. It is not terrible just not the sound I like. Going to try adding parametric eq to it then I will build new speakers for it. The TA1 just lacks the warmth, color, and texture that it should have at it's price point. I am sure it just needs different cap values or op-amps and it would be a fantastic amp. Sadly Emotiva did not design it to be easily modified. It has so much potential.

My take away. I have the Q-350s and this demo just reinforces my decision. The LS-50 meta's sound thin and hollow in the bass. The high end is only marginally better. But, in fairness, the Q-350 does have a bigger woofer. Thus, it sounds fuller. So, this is really the question I have for KEF, WHY are you charging three times as much for the LS-50 metas? I don't know, but it seems like KEF might be heading down the troll road. Really, I would say stick with the Q-line with KEF, that is where it is at and it is a nicely built speaker. These sound demos are great! The certainly help with making choices in sound systems. While I had already made my choice with the Q-350's. It is nice to compare them to others if only to reinforce my decision. Bottom line, with KEF, forget the LS line and stick with the Q-line. Definitely a much better value.
