Both of these can sound great. Sony has more features. JBL trades features for the additional speaker for the low bass you can feel. I really like the look of the Sony though.

Ear fatigue is something to consider. I demod 3 different speakers. I've never owned a JBL speaker before but was very impressed with how well balanced it sounded. Generally more enjoyable for long listening sessions. For me personally ear fatigue on the JBL was minimal. Also the shape, size and handle worked better for how I use it. Very bright speakers tend to be off putting for me and I cannot listen to them for long periods especially if I'm playing rock frequently.

Since there is no way to hear it live, I chose this way: I put on big, good headphones, and watched this video and listened to which speaker I liked best in sound. If you watch and listen to this video with headphones, the sound is recorded with high quality and transmits perfectly. You can perfectly understand the difference. Each is good in its own way, but the boombox definitely provides the best bass support.

JBL Boombox 3 has best bass at 60 -70%. Sony at 40% then over that already more mid - upper bassy. JBL for me. Still nicer bass. But both bass is not great 80%+.

Amazon Vine reviewer here. I don't have the Boombox 3, but I do have 2 JBL Partybox 100's, and the Partybox 1000, Aiwa Exos 9, and Diamondboxx Model L. Both the Partybox 100 and Aiwa Exos 9 have deeper and louder bass than the Ultfield 7. They were much cheaper too. I think that under 50% volume the Sony sounds good. Once you hit 50% the bass is stuck and doesn't get louder and it just thins out and the highs and mids start sounding really harsh. It's not a great party speaker like it's being advertised. I would MUCH rather have my 2 partybox 100's in TWS with that deep impressive loud bass than 2 Ultfield 7's. The partyboxes sound good even at max too.

Sony has made leaps and bounds compared to the trash they were selling before. The xb500 or whatever was terribly muddy and by far the worst speaker in its category. Happy to see they are back but I’m deep in the Jbl ecosystem and the bb3 is absolutely amazing in upper volumes while playing basketball. I’d say Sonys second now but not too far off now

I think what you mean is the Boombox 3 is a 3-way speaker set up, while the Field 7 is a two-way set up. That is correct. Boombox 3 has two tweeters, two mid-range and a (sub)woofer.
