watching on my black sony vaio ux and for anyone wondering you can upgrade the standard stupid 32gb and 40gb hard drives to superfast SSDs C: my black one has a 256gb ssd and can boot up to windows xp in 30 seconds, win 7 in less than 20 seconds and then the slowest is windows 8 which will take like 45-55seconds C: then my other sony vaio ux a silver one which i use as a portable media center has a 500gb msata samsung EVO 860 hard drive connected via a 1.8zif to msata connector and that is rather slower at booting up despite it having 2gigs ram and also is multi partitioned to have both windows XP/7/8/10 and the short lived linux Commodore64 OS dist. C: and for those that ask.......... is it good for gaming? well the black ux which has the 256gb ssd has 1000s of games from the 1990s to 2010 max and well basically it can play less demanding games at medium settings and any pre-2005 game can play at high settings... but then there are games that refuse to play because the display is too small for the game to render to the screen xD and the ux with the kingspec 256gb ssd can run alot of games without lagging but sadly the silver ux with the msata hard drive is quiet laggy! even gta vice city runs badly on it yet on the ssd it is so fast :/ and in 2018 this device can still keep up as it streams sporting events perfectly and kodi is pretty awesome in it too so for those of you that have the standard shitty 32gb or 40gb standard shipped 1.8zif hard drive/old ssd buy a 256gb ssd or if you can't afford that buy a 128gb ssd and you'll notice a real difference! xD

I have a 280P, I plan to make an improvement with the SSD, but I'm not sure which one to buy for fear that it is not compatible, which one do you recommend?

It's not possible use ipod toshiba disk on ux or another windows/mac device! Bios detect it, but cannot be formated because is in not supported ATA mode. When the UX booting it is beeping - that is signal of disk problem (0200: Failure Fixed Disk 0).

you make it look pretty simple. So did you go from a 30gig to 80gig? Secondly.. what did you use to shoot, record, edit, and load that video?.. its very clean and clear.

i cant tell what you were doing. were you upgrading memory, just opening it up, or changing from HDD to SSD?

Great video! Any 1.8" pata ssd fits?
@Fee.110 жыл бұрын
Hi, I utilized your video to get a feel for where the screws were etc to replace the original faulty drive in my UX280p recently and put a SSD in its place, mostly for a project/fun. When I closed it up and booted however I get no picture on the screen at all, same story if I try to use the VGA output. All I can think/hope is I somehow loosened the display connector maybe or some ribbon cable for some other component though a quick visual look over shows no obvious culprits. Any tips/guidance you can offer by any chance before I give up entirely? I'll be happy to send photos or video via email if you have the desire/willingness/time to discuss this further. Thanks.

nice video. I made the same mod on my vgn-ux280p, and changed a batery too. An 4hour batery pack!

Do I speak English? Well; mod is an abbreviation for the word modification. Modification is not simply a term for change it's a change that deviates from the standard. I.e. replacing one standard item for another standard item is not a modification. Thats a replacement or, as you say a change. A modification is different to simply a change although a modification is a type of change. I would suggest you buy a dictionary my friend.

No. Not at all. These are cool but outdated...7 Years...I've had three of these...two UX280P's that I sold, and I currently own a UX390N. Limited to 1GB of RAM, unless you can do a good solder job. comes standard with 30 or 40 GB of drive space unless you upgrade, like in this video. These are still definitely cool pieces, but not up to date.

I have just recently installed lxle linux on my ux180p. Lxle was built for older computers. I can now play songs and even watch KZbin videos. And I only have 500mb of ram.
@TheBoulKash9 жыл бұрын
Sheesh only 500mb? That hurts ME lol. That's the one thing I didn't like about these. The fact that the RAM is soldered directly to the motherboard. If the ram was easily upgradeable, the impact that the UX models would have had would have been far greater. I'm gonna end up getting another Samsung Q1 Ultra so help satisfy my nostalgia. I just love old tech.

So you can mod things, right. But can you freaking edit your videos?? Seriously, do we need to see how you unscrew screws to open a cover. It took about 30% of your video to just do that... my gosh.
