On my 6400 I have various objects in the edges of my frame go in and out, or "breathe" as another photographer described it. Even my faces. I was using Wide so I decided to try zone. Hole this helps. I hate it when it searches all across the frame .

I just discovered the focus issue with LED light behind the subject. Manual focus does eliminate it of course. I also minimized the effect if focus was set to registered face recognition. But Manual is the only sure way I could find to totally get rid of the problem. Glad you pointed this out. It needs to be a topic for a vid.

A long shot. . . Why does my 16-35mm EF lens hunt whenever I set autofocus, shooting video. Static shot, once it finds focus, which it does very fast, it hunts, constantly focusing and refocussing while recording, even if the nothing changes in the frame. Its driving me crazy. The only way Ive found to stop it, is to turn AF off. And that's not okay for me. Sony A73.

Thank you so much for these videos. I just bought an a6400 to use for my YT channel for filming and stills (I have a tech-oriented channel) and there is a huge learning curve for me to try and improve my videos' film/picture quality. If you have an accessories video (cages, monitors, etc) or suggestions please link me! Also your humor is rocking it! I'm laughing while I learn. Also if you can suggest any lenses I should use, also would appreciate it. I got the Sony 35mm 1.8 (in addition to the 16-50mm kit lens) and I like it but the field of view is rather narrow so I have to back pretty far away from something big like a PC case to get the entire thing in shot. Anyway, I'm rambling. Thank you again!

Hi Jason, My name is Tomer and I'm a big fan of your work. I know you are using Sony a6300 for filming and wanted to ask you advise with something I can't solve: I'm using video mode and setting all to manual. Do you have any solution that may help? Thanks so much, Tomer

@billrobinsonfilms24107 жыл бұрын
You mentioned the "pulsing/breathing" effect that happens with LED lights in the shot. When I am in autofocus on the A7Rii, I am having that pulsing happen a lot, even when LED lights are not in shot, or any lights for that matter. The subject stays in perfect focus, but you can notice the pulsing, especially on the edges of the frame. Could there be a setting I am missing that is causing this pulsing to be more noticeable?
@JasonVong7 жыл бұрын
Do you have the AF Track Sensitivity on Responsive? Change to Normal. If it's still really bothersome, like I mention in the video, switch to MF.
@billrobinsonfilms24107 жыл бұрын
No, I have the AF track sensitivity and drive speed both on Normal. I will switch to MF when I can, I just sometimes fear I'm gonna be slightly off-focus, even when using peaking. I was just surprised that 3 out of 4 interview like scenes I have filmed have had the really noticeaable pulsing/breathing. In my experimenting it seems that maybe the closer the camera is to the subject the more it pulses, even though the subject stays very much in focus. Thanks for responding and your videos are very helpful!

What lens are you using?
@billrobinsonfilms24107 жыл бұрын
I rent the lenses and have used the Zeiss 25mm f/2 Batis, the Sony 35mm f/2.8 ZA, and the Sony 55mm f/1.8 ZA. All 3 have had the issue. The 25mm and 35mm probably the most noticeable.

What about face registration & priority, is it useful to register bride & groom's face for having focus all the time
@FoodieQueen5 жыл бұрын
Hi Jason - Very helpful upload buddy. Just got my Sony a6500 last week. I shoot food vlogs. I am little worried about the constantly changing auto-focus - I mean I may have to move around a lot while shooting - show my face - crowd - food plate etc one after another while shooting. I did a trial shoot but the time it takes to auto-focus from one object to another (automatically) is almost 3-4 seconds. While shooting I will not be able to manually re-press on the screen again & again to focus on the object being video-graphed. Can you please suggest what should I do so that my camera remains auto-focused on the overall view.

For example, I already selected a Flexible spot, but I want to move the focus to another corner. Can I do that without going back to the focus area? Canon has a button to activate the focus area already selected and Fujifilm has the joystick. you touch it and can move the focus around. I can not do that on Sony... Can I? Thanks.

Nice video as always. I hate to jump in on this post but was wondering something. I have a Tilta Cage fro my sold A7sII and thought I would be able to use it's handle and grip on the small rig fro my a6500. Both say they are 1/4" threads but for some reason the Tilta screws are slightly smaller and will not tighten at all. So loose I can just pull them out. Does anybody know why the heck that is? Title is a much "better" product so I am wondering if the small rig's 1/4 holes are different some how or visa versa? Pretty disappointing really.
