The bass is not overbearing as everybody is saying. But it will shock you because you can feel the bass. The bass is ultra deep and smooth, the midrange is crisp, and the highs are decent. Also it will cancel out sound like crazy. These are awesome!!

Just picked up a pair of the MDR-X10's today, and if you are overwhelmed by the high amount of bass, all you need to do is download or install an equalizer application to turn it down a bit, and it really makes an amazing difference if your preference of music goes towards the Classical/Jazz type of music, or anything that you want less bass in. Overall I'm absolutely loving my X10's and hope they last for years to come.

Raduica Andrei I used to have a couple Sony headphones with the same design as these MDR, and at first yeah I thought "too much bass, wtf" then I discovered I could rotate the speakers and found out the best setting to let bass naturally flow outside the ear space, giving me a much better sound! Great product =P

Miguel Alejandro Vergara XB not MDR. Anyway, all XB line is for kids, beginners. You can rotate them upside down 1000 times, the sound is the same. Sony Xb 1000 was 250$, the same price as my Beats Mixr and the difference is so huge. Sony xb 1000 is everpriced shit like Sony 1R

Thanx blarger9, thats what I wanted to know, because on ears headphones tend not to cover the whole ear & ambiance noise can be heard when listening to music, and I do travel quite often with train so its very important to me. After seeing few reviews / video of x10 & x05 series, I think i will go with X10 due to detachable 1 cable system; although I love the all red X05. Initially my choice was V-moda Crossfade m100, Jbl j88i, Pioneer hdj500tk & Klipsch mode m40, thanx god sony is on sale now.

Try Sennheiser HD280 Pro, they're neutral and only about $80-$100. They clamp a lot so beware but they're quite good for what they cost.

both are great. It really comes down to preference. Over ear or on ear? I used to think over ear were more comfortable, but that was only because i had lower quality poor comfort on ear.. i never bothered to try others again. These are pretty comfortable. The over the ear design is cool, but you might hear one ear different due to the ear sometimes folding a little more than the other or positioned even slightly different causing different bouse from your outer ear blablabla. sound etc sound good, but what about the fabric on earcups?i read some reviews that it tends to peel off, and in some cases it didn't even last 1 year.it also affects the sound quality when its peeled off(it gets worse ofc), and the worst thing is that it can't be replaced cause there's no replacement for that.such a shame and i wanted to buy these.i'll wait for xb450 and xb950 line

I don't usually have much of a high opinion of Sony stuff these days, especially headphones, but, I read so many raves and re: the bass and overall sound quality on these, I just ordered a pair. I have plenty of higher-end headphones, planars, whatever, but I haven't had too many lately that have really satisfying, deep bass, and I don't like Beats very much, I've auditioned them, don't think they're that good overall. So I'm going to give Sony a shot, this time. Here in America, at least in NY, you never see headphones like this in the few remaining major electronics retail chains. I don't know why. I feel like Sony has issues with regional marketing or whatever, I don't know why that might be the case. I know everybody is buying stuff online, but, it baffles me that a product like this wouldn't be stocked at Best Buy or whatever.

Sony website stated this is over ear but you say its on ear? How about ambiance noise leakage to the headphone? If this is on ear, then X05 also? hifiguy, have you considereed reviewing some steelseries products? they are made for gaming but the sound quality on them are amazing, i own the siberia v2 myself and i love them, i reccomend trying the flux, 7h and siberia v2.

im actually listening to this vid on the steel series siberia v2 right now. theyre decent for a pair of gaming headphones but as a pair of music headphones they fall wayyyy behind dude. pick up a pair of decent headphones ( no, the beats dont count lol) and you'll see what im talking about

Hey supladz u cant go wrong with the x10 I think They are by far the best headphone ever its gonna be really hard for Sony to better this one the 55s sound good until you listen to the 10s but an amp with it fiio makes them for less than a hundred that will blow your mind

I returned mine, they were not worth $300. They sound great, but they hurt my head after an hour. Plus the texture on the outside ear cups can scratch really easy, ruining the effect. The materials were not high enough quality for the price.

I tried both of them out in bestbuy. Honestly there's really no difference in sound. I guess the x05 is a LITTLE crisper sounding but they are smaller and might not cover your ear as well which leads me to but the x10.

X10s all the way. What separates the X10s from the X05 is the X10s have the 50mm driver, the removable chord with iPhone control, dynamic frequency, lower impedance, and the higher power consumption. The lower impedance at 24 ohms is going to give you a louder sound. X05's have an impedance of 40 ohms and they aren't as loud t higher volumes. The X10's didn't sell well yet they are a good set, so Sony made the cheaper X05s for the mass market to compete with Beats Solo and Pro line. Sony always does this they did the same thing with the MDR-V6/MDR 7506, and with the MDR-V700dj/MDR-v55dj which both are very similar in sound signature. However the X05s are no match for the X10s and right now they are cheaper the the X05s. I got mine for $75 from Tiger Direct...love them.
