Ebay sells them for $223.90 from South Korea to USA with free shipping. This is the cheapest you can find today. I got mine a few days ago. Both Japanese and Korean versions are made in Thailand, so I don't think they are fake. Sound quality is not that impressive though.

@ifrogz1 The reason I would not go for the XB1000 is the fact that I have owned both the XB500 and the XB700 and in no way do they compare with headphones from other manufacturers such as Denon, Sennheiser and the like. The resolution simply isn't there, there is also significant a significant mid bass boost in the XB500/700, meaning you don't get a sense of the depth of the bass and the mids and highs are drowned out and smothered somewhat. If you want a bassy closed back, get the Denon D2000.

@hifiguy528, I read you have 2 extra pairs of the XB1000. Yes these headphones are great jewels and great headphones. What is amazing is that these are hifi. I just got a friend in Hong Kong to buy up I think the remainder 4 pairs in Sony Store there. Thanks for the great finds of the decades. Really hi fi. Layered bass, clear mids & silky highs. No wonder you as a Sony fan boy bought 3 pairs. Thanks for the unboxing that gave me the tips to buy these. Anymore tips. These are welcome sincerely

@ifrogz1 Think of this. You're asking about full-size headphones for outdoor use...? The D7000 doesn't even have good isolation, despite its closed design. Isolation isn't great with the K701/HD650 either, but that's just obvious fact since both are open design (sound leaks both ways). Not to mention they're not meant for portable use; they're just too big. If you want something for portable use, check out some supraaural headphones or IEMs.

@IcEmAnBoWoW21 obviously the xb1000 but if you aren't looking to spend tremendous amount on a pair of high end cans, go for the xb700. The bass on both are out of this world.

I did not even know there was a 70mm model until i just saw it on Sony's website. I have been wanting the 50mm for a while. I listened to a display for the 40mm at Staples and was blown away. I do not think that I am going to spend $300 on the 70mm but I definitely want the 50mm which are only $130 versus $300 on the 70mm.

i just bought mine yesterday at a sony store, it was the last one they had and when they handed me the box i noticed it had some dust on the top so it had been there for kite a while and now i know there not made anymore, i guess im lucky and happy to have these.

Yes no more stocks. I went to many shops in Hong Kong and finally got one from the local agent at Sony Store during my last trip overseas. I played these using the Sheffield "Drums & Track" CD and was sucked in by the huge enormous bass. After the session, my ears rings for awhile. Tinnitus ? Beware of loud bass. Do not play this too loud. For bass heads this is the best bass headphones IMO. But wait, the bass is not boomy & is hifi. So, this can be a great set of phones even for audiophiles.

Which is why every single place that have these for sale have labelled them good for bass music... lol. There is such a thing called the Equaliser. They're actually one of the best pears of headphones that I've ever seen and used and listened to. All you need is full control over the sound (Equaliser) and you're fine.

So. I own the sony xb500's and the 700's. Now the 500s have louder SPL bass than the 700s. Are the 1000s like the 700s in that sense. Where the SPL is lacking?

@hifigy528 do you have the spare parts number for the ear pads ? In a couple of years, these will go through wear and tear. Most manufacturers don't keep stock for products for more than 5 to 10 years. Your Sony SCD 1 which I also own, the spares like the belt & spindle etc are now out of stock. I hope everyday that my SCD 1 don't stop working.

In my experience, I don't reckon the step-up in quality from the Sony XB700 doesn't justify the step-up in price - they both can handle 3,000mW, they have the same mW sensitivity. Therefore, I would seriously recommend the XB700, they are quality cans....tbc

@IcEmAnBoWoW21 If you like the bass and high quality sound for the best price/performance ratio, go for the "Ultrasone HFI-580". It's a very good headphone, specially for bassheads. It costs around 150-200 dollars...

......the XB700 is fantastic value for money. It's got great bass, and amazing comfort (nothing comes close to the comfort, even top of the range Sennheiser HD800, i'm serious). A few things to bear in mind though, a relatively short cable, sound leak out (but not in) and the upper register isn't the best. Another good shout that you may want to look into is the V-Moda Crossfade LP, which are another great value for money headphones. For me, the XB700 edges it but we all have different tastes...

@ThePiggyDude These run on 24ohm, moust headphones run on 32ohm or more and the lesser ohm the higher they play. i tryed out mine on my mp3 (Iriver spinn) and they play pretty load. on my laptop i took the freedom too lower the high end and get more bas witch made the overall volume too go down, still when i ramp up the volume they play almoust as laud as you can stand against the power. after a while high volume hurts the inside of my head =X

@jathalo i used them on an ipod with the eq on bass booster ive ued both the sony mdr xb1000 and the sony mdr v700dj on the same ipod and the sony mdr v700dj are definetly bettter its more crisp if you try the sony mdr v700dj youll see what i mean plus sound doesnt leak like the xb100s

@chowychow Definitely the XB700. Much more detailed than the Beats and while there is a lot of bass, it's more controlled. I assume you mean the Beat Studios? Otherwise, the pros are not bad, but they are also around $500 (i think) which is ridiculous. You can get better headphones for cheaper than the beats. But if you must have bass, the XB700s are not bad

The xb 500's are perfect because of being able to use them portable but i think the 1000's would be good for home use.
