I just purchased my 65" on the weekend for SB and will be trying out your settings. Good job with the detail! I have some questions: My XBOX One is using HDMI 4 port. If I use GAME settings for games and the built-in HD Blu Ray as CINEMA, will the TV change settings automatically even though only one HDMI port is used?

Yes it will. The TV will recognize when a game is started and switched automatically to game mode and when you go off the game and to a movie it will exit out of game mode. You can set the picture setting when your not in a game that way it's like have 2 presets in 1

I love this TV! Two things I noticed: SDR content is BRIGHTER than HDR content. For SDR content, I back off on the default max brightness down to 25. I also reduce SDR gamma from 0 to -2. HDR content I leave at the default brightness settings. SDR content has more saturated COLOR than HDR content. SDR saturation I leave at the default 50. HDR color saturation I boost to 55. Then SDR and HDR look very close to a match.

One thing not mentioned in this video is that the native apps run in 60p. To remove judder when watching 24p content with the native apps, you should set Cinemotion to Auto, Motionflow to Custom, and then keep the Smoothness and Clearness set at Minimum.

Was I initially planning to buy OLED (burn issues), then QLED (expensive and great black level) and then a TCL (reliability issues) and then finally bought this (brilliant reviews). Auto local dimmer should be on medium and advanced contrast enhancer should be off. I tested this setting Vince from HDTVtest is correct.

Having had the x900h for well over a year now, I believe the best Gamma setting is -1 (not default 0) for exceptionally natural coloration.

Hey Alex, I didn't realize the X900H is a VA panel. So is the Sony X800H is my best option for a 65" IPS panel under $1000? (Two parents + four kids = need for wide-viewing angle). Or is there another option I'm missing? Or does another good sub-$1000 TV have wide viewing angles?

How often to people typically change settings on TVs like this? I'm about to get my first 4K TV. On my current Sony (bought in 2006) I only occasionally change to another picture setting. Obviously, some content looks better than others, but I generally didn't mind that not everything looked perfect all the time. How much of the changing and tweaking do these modern TVs remember so that you don't need to do it repeatedly as you switch between sources and content type?

one thing I cannot seem to find clarity on(pun intended), is my scenario...my x900H is my PC monitor and ONLY a monitor. In other words I watch netflicks on it(thru win10 on my pc.). I game on it(also via my PC). So everything I view is funneled thru my pc to HDMI 3. So is there a recommended setting for this or should I be adjusting my settings for movie and for games despite them both fundamentally coming from one scource...my PC. Do I treat my PC as a "movie" when watching a movie and my PC as a "game system" when playing a game.

Its depending how often do you tv. Overall better TV is OLED LG, but if you watch many tv streaming,cable tv, watch news etc I would go for LED tv's like Sony xh90, because Oled can burned in.

Hello, please i have an issue! i can't change picture setting for the main menu of the tv! when i press “Display & inputs” it turn me automatically to HDMI 3 picture setting which is not the same of the main menu tv picture setting!

I done calibrated with Calman home for my Sony X9000H (Aussie version) and am happy with result. Only small problem is cannot do color space adjustment and red/blue are a bit inaccurate. Red sometimes shift towards magentish cast on red.

I have the same problem with RED colour. It seems oversaturated and out of place. Other times it seems like a little posterazation?solarization. I have tried everything, only thing that kinda makes things better is using DCI color

@@ams3dams3d14 My belief is that Sony triluminos display might be a culprit to that. Rather wide colour gamut. Samsung QLED is different their is more orangish red and strong green saturation. Sony is more toward magenta red and strong blue. Interesting though! Im not sure what nanocell is like though.

Awesome video. But was hoping someone could help me. I bought a new Sony 85” X91J (same as X900H) and was looking forward to pushing its sound out through eARC HDMI to my receiver’s ARC HDMI port. There is no sound when I do this though. Tried different cables. Nothing. Tv speakers work fine, but cant get audio from eARC. When I go into the TV’s settings (to turn eARC to auto), I notice that the moment I select DISPLAY AND SOUND, the TV appears to switch to HDMI 3 (eARC). I can still proceed to switch eARC to auto, but I’m wondering if that’s in fact changing the setting for HDMI 3 only (which wouldn’t make much sense I don’t think). In other words, I’m not sure the TV knows I’d like eARC to output the audio of it’s native apps. Because it leaves the default screen, and switches to an HDMI port (even if there’s nothing plugged into an HDMI port) the moment I get close to accessing the eARC setting. I’m not sure whether I’ve explained my problem clearly. Sorry if I haven’t. But if this happens to make sense, I’d love any insight into how I can change all audio (regardless of source) to be pushed out through eARC to my receiver. Thanks!! PS. While the TV has eARC, the receiver has just ARC. But I think it should work anyway. I’ve tried both 2.0 and 2.1 cables.

When I have HDMI signal format pulled up, I get 3 options, not the 2 you displayed. I have a Dolby Vision option. So far, when I have DV selected it displays colors differently if not playing DV content. I have the ubp x800m2 connected, so when playing a DV disc I have to manually turn on DV on the player and then on the tv hdmi input.

It actually says in text under HDMI 2.1 settings that it runs in 120hz. But you were in HDMI 1 which doesn’t support 120hz. I’d u would have went to HDMI 3 or HDMI 4 which are the two ports that support 120 ha it would have shown in the text !!

I have the X90j. The auto picture mode is pretty much always greyed out. It’s of no concern because you’ve already told the tv which picture mode you want it to use. Standard, cinema, custom, ect. Better that you make that decision rather than let the tv do it.

If you want LCD for gaming this tv is a must have. If you are not afraid ( 🤣) of burn-in LG CX or C9 will cover your needs and more for past generation consoles and current gen ones.

You have to connect your remote as a bluetooth device. By default, it only works as IR. You'll then also be able to use the remote without having to point it at the tv.

If you have problems with subtitles blooming in dark Scandinavian crime shows while using dolby vision, then turning local dimming to high does the trick. Don't know why it is not automatic though.

Please don’t set Auto Local Dimming to high. It will clip highlights. Leave it at medium. Disable contrast enhancer as well. HDTVTest made a really good video showing the implications of setting Auto Local Dimming to high.

Anyone notice that some content, like Netflix and HBO max, has a lot of judder on panning shots? This is with Cinemotion set to auto and smoothness set to either 1 or 2? It only seems to happen when there is a lot of white on the screen and the backlight can seem to keep up.

This video goes through all of the settings, but I found that following along and changing HDR settings later caused changes to what I had set before. I feel like the settings would be more effective if it was in an intended order, rather than sequential through the menu

I have a much easier way to do this. I set up the TV to look great with my Xbox One X / Series X. Then I run all of my content through the Xbox and it always looks great and I never have to touch the TV remote again. In fact I don't even know where the remote is...I haven't seen it since last summer!
