I just bought this unit. Guys, if you’re on the fence, just go ahead and buy it. I was worried about screen quality but it looks very pleasing to the eye and responds almost as quick as my Iphone 13 pro max. The radio tuner seems to be of a good quality with little to no noise and good reception it seems. Furthermore it is super quick to load up and react to input. I recommend this unit, money well spent haha!

it uses the universal DIN form factor, any car with DIN radios can accept it, but it wont be able to control anything beyond infotainment

What car models will this work in? Many cars may have proprietary systems nowadays that features for this wouldn't work with. I'm curious though as I have not had to change out a receiver in a modern car and assuming. Can you show us more on that?

Likely only in older cars, as those from early 2000's and before and not all of them. I detest that modern cars don't have head unit DIN system anymore, it means a good stereo cost way more because you can only go with what the car maker sells.

You'll need a head unit that's compatible with iDatalink. Sony doesn't make those, only Pioneer and a few others.

And probably only available in America and Asia, like other Sony products (like the new ES receivers or the Walkman ZX707). Sony has a strange release policy of their products. Unfortunately, a large part of the customers in the rest of the world remain unnoticed. As a European, I am probably no longer worth it to have access to the complete Sony product range. Very sad.

Fortunately you're wrong, but that's a good thing 😉. 6050 is the european model designation and is coming for us Europeans. Already spoke about it with my local carsound shop and they confirmed with their contact at Sony as well that it'll be here soon! I've been on the lookout for this particular model for good 6 months now. The US version (AX-6000) has been released like a year ago or something. So although Sony took their sweet time at least it's here.

​@hendrixwilliams7071 Because even if you bought it from the US, the cars connections aren't exactly the same in eu and us spec cars so there's no guarantee you'd be able to make it work. You wouldn't get the DAB+ either and probably no warranty etc etc

Just import it. I've done that with a bunch of Sony products that were exclusive to Europe or Asia. There may be a few caveats to certain products, like mobile devices having different frequencies or products with different plugs for input and outputs.
