SPEAKER UPDATE: A lot of people asked about Sony's speakers outputting lower volume. I did turn on Dolby, but I just found out the speakers actually get much louder in some other apps (such as music apps). Sony must've limited how loud the speakers get for certain apps (like KZbin) in favor of balancing/optimizing sound. This same audio track gets a LOT louder when played in music apps rather than through the KZbin app. Louder meaning as loud as the iPhone gets. It's odd because other phones don't limit volume for apps, though I understand the intention to optimize/balance for a video experience. Unfortunately that doesn't work as well for a test like this where the intention is to use the phone as a loud speaker. Maybe in the future I will test through a different app because the Sony is definitely capable of matching the iPhone's volume level. It'd be nice if Sony gave users the choice of optimizing sound vs unleashing the maximum volume of the speakers, but for now it depends on the app.

It's true. It only gets really loud in the music player app. For other music players like Spotify and Tidal where the stereo experience isn't a priority it would've been much nicer to have the loudness. My theory is that there are SONY drivers in the music app which enable the speakers to get louder. SONY can fix this though by not needing to have the drivers in order to make the phone louder. They could send a global volume increase but then the KZbin and video experience isn't as nice anymore...

As of this moment. The Xperia 1 III and 5 III have just been announced but now the 1 II is on sale for $1,000 and 5 II $800. When the new phones release sometime in June then Sony usually knocks the previous generation price down to $800 and $600 respectively before they eventually discontinue.

Yes I did, BUT Sony must've limited how loud the speakers get for certain apps (like KZbin) in favor of balancing/optimizing sound, because in some other apps (such as music apps) this same audio track gets a LOT louder than the KZbin app. Louder meaning as loud as the iPhone gets. It's odd because other phones don't limit volume for apps, though I understand the intention to optimize/balance. Unfortunately that doesn't work as well for a test like this. Maybe in the future I will test through a different app because the Sony is definitely capable of matching the iPhone's volume level. It'd be nice if Sony gave users the choice of optimizing sound vs unleashing the full volume of the speakers.

Like I have seen this phone's video on unbox therapy and he said that the phone sounds great. I'm a huge Sony fan and I almost cried when i saw this phone performing better than iPhone in almost all aspects. I have been watching your videos since idk maybe xz and I loved the videos. It's just that I can never buy a Sony smartphone as Sony stopped selling smartphones in India. And that's why I participate in your Sony giveaways. 😂
