REasons why I like my Xperia 1 III (and other Xperias): - no notch, punch hole; - stereo speakers with nice quality; - minijack!; - 21:9 ratio. At first I was a bit afraid of it but it's easy to use; - lack of agressive postprocessing of photos.

I honestly hope underwhelming sales don't kill this line. I originally got one for a work phone, with my iPhone 12 Pro being my daily driver. After 4 hours, I swapped out the SIM cards and made my iPhone the work phone. The Xperia 1 III is too good to not be my daily driver, and if this line of phones continue, I will be never buying another iPhone again. It's taken my phone from something I have in my pocket as an essential, to something I am passionate about and genuinely enjoy as a multimedia device.

The headphone socket is also welcomed and i have a big SD card to keep offline music and pictures. Owning mark III and looking for next iterations. What I expect from new Xperia: 1. Brighter screen with vivid mode back. Bigger screen like 6.8". Variable 144Hz. Control on resolution. 2. Bigger battery. Charger with software for slow charging (to prolong battery life) 3. Better cameras: 1" main camera at least 20Mpx to use full matrix. 21:9 pics mode. 4k 60fps video mode in main camera. Ideally 960fps to be back. Replace front camera as current is bad. Dedicated night mode. OIS for all lenses. 4. Stronger flashlight. 5. Software: many xperia apps to be back, including Sony album, e-mail client, weather, widgets. 6. Cooling system like vapor chamber for cpu. Not having any cooling solution for device at this price range is mistake. 7. New Xperia home with more changes available. Now cannot setup which screen is main screen. Always have to be the one on the left. 8. Gorilla glass Victus on front and back (currently only front). 9. Headphone jack that works with noise cancelling headphones. 10. More color options.

Not for everyone though... My wife recently sold her Pixel 4a and got an Xperia 10 III. It was a sidestep as she definitely traded picture quality, speaker loudness and the software support for hardware features that she wanted, such as, dual sim slot, water resistance, amazing battery life. If Sony disappears I would probably consider the Pixel line as an alternative but I care a lot about the hardware because software can be easily upgraded (for instance, I recently installed the APK of Videography Pro meant for the Xperia Pro-I in my Xperia 5 II and it works incredibly well, this is unofficial, but a software upgrade still)

I'm holding out for 2022, as my P30 Pro is still getting me through my days without any real hiccups. After three years, I'm only now starting to see some real battery degradation. My P30 Pro, however, is stuck at Android 10, with EMUI 11. As someone who has always had Nexus and Pixels, and upgraded on a yearly basis, I find myself not too worried too much about Android updates anymore - that is until a major version rolls around. Even if my current phone was good, hardware wise, for another 2 years I'd be upgrading because of Android 12. So, I'm really looking forward to what the Xperia i iv brings to the table. Hopefully there are some improvements to the front facing camera and the auto camera. I think those two things would do a lot to bring Sony into the main stage. Though, I'm not sure Sony wants the main stage right now. They're creating their own niche. But I think the Xperia i series could be their mass market phone if they wanted it to be.

The phone is great, but the lack of long term software support should be highlighted as a major pb and a real deal breaker. Two years of support was ok back when your phone was so underpowered it became useless after 3 years. Current phones are monsters that can offer an acceptable experience even after ~5 years or so. We all should push phone companies to commit to 5 years of proper software support. Good hardware is no longer enough.

I've owned 6 Sony phones, including the Ericson series. My current phone is a Sony xperia XZ Premium. I took back the Xperia 1 iii phone cuz 1). The battery life is garbage 2). Overheats in active use 3). My selfie camera on my XZ Premium is better 4). The auto settings are not convenient for on the go Sony need to nail down the most important things, which is the basics. You want to advertise this phone for the average consumers as well as enthusiasts. Not 1 or the other. I want Sony to win, but they gotta get their thumb out their behind and start covering the right stuff.

Honestly I'm torn as I wanna switch out my Xperia 1 mark 2, just to get a better version of it 😅 have had both the mark 1 and 2. And they just keep getting better. Main reason I went for Xperia over the others were because of the "niche" features for others, but convenient for me personally. I do still use jack. I use the camera alot at work, so dedicated button is just more convenient. I always liked the sidemounted fingerprint sensor too. Dual front firing speakers is a must, use alot of phones with just one speaker, or split with treble and bass on each side (terrible experience using that honestly). Or single speaker phones, where I constantly blocked and almost muted the speakers... Split screen multitasking i actually use alot, and with this aspect ratio is working well. So yea, maybe I'll upgrade again 😂

A few issues with it but I still like it. Have previously used the Samsung Note 8, S10, and now I'm currently using the S21+ and Sony Xperia 1 III concurrently. Always loved the 21:9 aspect ratio and was considering the Xperia 1 II 2 years back, but held off for the Mk III for it's 70mm to 105mm upgrade. The Mk III is a good phone and I prefer it over my S21+ (mainly because I'm bored of Samsung) and the Sony phone is vastly different than any other Android phone on the market, but there are some issues with it which many reviewers do not cover (basically most or all of the reviews on KZbin). #1: Camera Eye / Face Lock On Basically the AF and lock-on are good, and the 20fps with re-autofocus is working well. But I've found that in certain instances, the face / eye lock on and tracking do not focus correctly. When the option for this is enabled, the camera can detect my dog's eye 100% of the time, but does not focus on the eye.... It focues on his snout or nose. This causes the image to be visibly out of focus. However, turning the eye / face lock on feature off, and simply tapping on my dog's face solves this issue. Also, the object tracking works well too! #2: Camera 20FPS As said earlier, the 20FPS works well and the re-autofocus does work too. However, in the default auto mode (meaning in BASIC mode), when using 20FPS, the shutter is definitely too slow for medium to fast moving objects (such as a dog walking at normal speeds in good lighting conditions like in a living room). This holds true for humans as well. Basically, the images will turn out blurry because the shutter speed was kept slow (1/40 to 1/80) while keeping a low ISO too. This is not an issue in absolutely bright conditions like at a dog park with direct sunlight, but anything else and the phone will revert to prefer a slower shutter speed to keep the ISO low. For an average user, this would be an issue, but having some experience using manual mode on DSLRs, this slow shutter issue can be avoided by using the phone's MANUAL mode and setting the ISO and Shutter Speed manually while enabling 20FPS. However, it is understandable that the masses may find this tedious or too complex for smartphone photography. #3 Camera - Videography and Cinema Pro [Basic Camera Mode - Not Cinema Pro] One issue I found the most irritating is the fact that when taking a video using the front facing camera, you cannot swipe / toggle to the back camera like how you can do on any Samsung phone. If you're taking a video using the front camera, that's the only camera you can use, and the same thing goes for the back cameras. Furthermore, when taking a video using the back cameras, regardless of whatever resolution you choose (4k, 1080 60, 1080, 720), you can't switch cameras while recording. I know for a fact that this is possible on my old Samsung S10 (only in FHD - definitely not possible in 4K 60), but at least they had the option to switch cameras while recording). Also, while the Mk III can clearly record in 4K up to 120FPS, the option is not available in BASIC mode (the default camera application). It only offers a max of 4K 30FPS (or something, but definitely not 60FPS). To use 4K 60FPS or 120FPS, you have to use the Cinema Pro application. More on that below. [Cinema Pro] On a side not, I find their menu system weird for a smartphone. For instance, everything starts with a project. To create a video, a project has to be opened first. If certain settings change, a new project may have to be opened. An example: using the 24mm lens with 4K 60FPS, a project is created. Using another lens, another project has to be created, using a different frame rate, a project has to be created, and it continues. However, as good as the ability to record in 4K 60FPS or 120FPS is, the Cinema Pro application is basically useless for the main reason that ISO CANNOT BE ADJUSTED ONCE YOU START RECORDING. I own a Sony A7 and I play around with the video mode sometimes. I know that during recording, it's mainly the ISO that's adjusted to compensate for different lighting conditions on the fly (not shutter or aperture). In Cinema Pro's case, since ISO AND SHUTTER SPEED cannot be adjusted once records starts, you're basically fixed with one exposure. If you're outside and point to the sky, you're basically stuck with a blown out screen. If you're indoors and point to a darker place, you're stuck with underexposed frames. That being said, unless I'm in an environment with consistent lighting, I'm stuck with the BASIC default app and limited to either 4K 30FPS, or 1080 60FPS (I normally stick with the 1080 60). #4 General Usage I'm quite sure it's because of the screen, but the phone gets hot, really hot. Compared to the same tasks on my S21+, the Sony definitely gets way hotter then it should. I attribute this to the 888 chip as well but who knows. Things like Lightroom, transferring files to the SD card, KZbin, Facebook, etc. Also, just to add on the burst photos with 20FPS. When viewing them using Google photos (the default photo viewer), there's a bug with scrolling between the bursts. This is prominent with bursts of 20 images, or 100 images. But it's a small issue. Also, with the attributes about the camera mentioned above, using the Pro mode for everything photography related really brings out the best of the cameras, albeit 12 megapixels. Having a steady hand helps too, seeing as for most shots, there's a weird issue that the phone predere long exposure times for images that are clearly in daytime. Maybe it's related to the fact that there is no dedicated night mode or for HDR, and that the phone auto detects the scene you're in. Basically expect long exposure times when there shouldn't be any. Just to add, in night mode, with a steady hand, the images are as good as those on my S21+ with its 64 megapixel sensor. One thing I have to give credit to is the colour accuracy of the phones cameras. Compared to Samsung and Iphones (both old and new), this is by far the most accurate representation of the original scene. Grass looks like grass at the dog park (on the Samsung, its always oversaturated). One other thing, their flashlight is oddly not at it's brightest setting and this cannot be adjusted by the user.... Finally, and weirdly enough, there's no option to turn Fast Charging off..... I don't like to fast charge my phones because I like them to stay away from heat as much as possible, so I have no choice but to use a slow charger (5V 1A or 1.5A). Overall, I still appreciate something different as compared to Samsung's UI. This phone has many issues which I believe are software related (toggle 120HRZ, toggle night mode, toggle front/back camera while recording, toggle fast charging, toggle NFC on/off, toggle flashlight brightness, etc). As for their hardware, it's almost perfect. All that they're missing is a configurable extra button (currently the Google assistant button is fixed) and higher megapixels on all cameras. With all it's shortcomings, I'm still using this as the daily driver over my S21+ (the S21+ is a damn good phone fyi. It's really refined - better screen, better camera in most cases, etc).

And now without even thinking about it we carry a camera with us at all times and they are all so good that the tech tubers are nit picking between each device when in actually fact most people point and shoot and probably don't even tap to focus because the device will churn out a good enough image for social networks without any post editing

☆☆☆☆ Never owned Xperia phones before , going by positive reviews I would like to give it a try by ordering Xperia 1 IV which is currently on the pipelines. Inclusion of following will persuades me to switch from Samsung to SONY, ☆ integration/incorporation of SD slot expandable memory, ☆Headphone Jack, to edit or insertion of sound tracks into video also using proper headphones instead of gimmicky bluetooth ones. ☆Sony Apps and 70-105mm telephoto. 🔥 I hope SONY incorporates Variable apature & a Bigger sensor ( closer to 1 inch) Or a set of faster lenses to help in low light situations, these would certainly blow all other competitions out of water and hopefully Sony would takes the Crown in smart phones.

The main difference about pixel density everyone have forgotten is that back in the IPS days, this screen is equivalent in sharpness to 1440p. Due to the new standard of pentile displays where it previously use to be just 3 sub pixels. Currently 1440p pentile are only equivalent to the IPS 1080p, if you're use to the high pixel - it's quite easy to tell the sharpness apart - but people are too use to pentile now.

Okey have to react. Did he say the Side-sense bar isnt that useful. Its not just for opening apps. Its actually one of the best feature SONY made for making it easier to use a Taller formfactor with one hand. You can use Side-sense to pull down the notification curtain from where ever are, even when an app is open. Only time it doesnot function is when your doing calls, wich I actually dont know why Sony done that. But sadly once again a reviewers dont really check a feature out before making a verdict over it. But despite that, its not a horrible review, but again not really correct information about the phone sadly.

It is interesting, too, if there is a way to hide app drawer. It is the simplest approach to open apps and other functionalities. Imagine, when you are currently using an app, you can open another one via side-sense without even going out from the app. You can also use multi-window from there. It, somehow, reminds me of mini apps. But, this time, any app can be one of the selection.

Just bought this phone ( on sale!) - and I have to say; its just great! Ive been an iPhone-guy for more than 10 years, but this phone is a lot better! Its fast. The screen is fantastic. Camera is great, as long as you go for the manual options. Battery is better than most of people told me! I wish I found this phone a bit earlier, but Im glad Ive got it now!

there's a reason why they created this not for AUTO mode user. if you use AUTO mode, but crapply android with filters or stick to your iphone that makes decision on their own and not to the person who bought them.

This is a phone i owned briefly. I purchased it for the features some reviewers touted 'enthusiast' features, the dual front facing stereo speakers, the 4K 120 Hz screen and the stock android experience. And while it did indeed deliver on those features, it skimped on some fundamental phone features that make a phone easy to live with on a daily basis. Take the battery, which drained in just 3-5 hours of screen on time or about half a day of moderate use. It heat up doing mundane tasks such as watching KZbin videos and the 4K screen - while beautiful displaying 4K content - ran at a 2560x1080 resolution most of the time. That might seem like a perfectly fine resolution for most people, was it not for the blurriness that follows when you run a render resolution at a odd fraction of the native resolution (in this case 1.5x). The lack of a software update promise also didn't play in that phone's favor. Sony Xperia 1 iii, I miss you. You were a great companion - but just too flawed to be dependable.

Sony has since Xpera 1 III been a let down when it comes to updates. DOnt know why. Still SONY hasnt revielled their Android 12 update schedule. When you start playing games/using the camera then yes, the glass/plastic build of the phone struggles a little with heat dissipation and holding charge but it's to be expected doesn't affect the operation of the phone.

The feature suite just feels incomplete. I wish Sony could consolidate their feature set as well as galaxies. The fold is officially a post phone device. The wireless dex and ability to run as many apps as I want live while also using the device a as a PC is just mind blowing. I was pretty peeved they dropped the audio jack but it wasn't until they made sure the Bluetooth and audio stack was mote capable than anything else that exists on the market. The audio calibration, multi tasking i.e. the ability to send any apps audio to other devices while other apps audio remain on the device or is sent elsewhere or treated as if it's running from a phantom media server via dex is pretty mind blowing. Recently went on a trip and the ability to watch a movie on the main screen with my wife both using Bluetooth to listen in atmos while using a portable monitor to do some writing via dex just felt like the future .

Three things would really help Sony. 1 advertising, 2 branding because Xperia 1iii is a terrible name for the mainstream. Maybe just do like Samsung and call it Xperia 21 and keep going with the year from that point forward and 3) while you can get amazing photos and videos with manual mode it definitely needs a better mode for those that don't know the first thing about cameras.
