Xperia 1 III is still a bloody smartphone, not a pro camera, you know. And, from numerous reviews, I haven't seen any convincing results straight out of Xperia 1 III Pro Camera app regardless of number attepmts and time wasted on mocking around with settings. Pretty much RAW and Lightroom are the must with Xperia which is ridiculous.

iphone has terrible oversharpening, bad colors and tonemapping. iphone's slow motion looks like motion interpolation, it is probably 120 fps. Both have terrible noise reduction but at least sony is not oversharpened. Portrait modes are terrible on both, like a kid learning photoshop tried to blurred background randomly. Only good thing about iphone is dynamic range but terrible tonemapping destroys its benefits. Phone manufacturers could not do anything properly, again. Maybe Sony's RAWs and HLG videos can fix its issues, at least it may be usable in some situations unlike iphone.

I just hate building a camera app for every device I buy, and manufacturers cannot provide me an usable camera app. Sony's pro apps are very good but they do not allow disabling noise reduction, so they are not usable. It takes 2 lines of code to disable it, and they refuse to provide this basic functionality. Manufacturers always break something and I am bored of fixing their shit.

Personally, I am happy with a camera that allows the highlights to be blown out or shadows to be crushed if it makes sense for the scene. As long as the sensor has that info, you could shoot in RAW and adjust later, or get the look you want by adjusting the settings when taking the shot. HDR is not always desirable.

Hi. Some people are criticizing the reviewer for intentionally handicapping the Sony but my opinion is the opposite. Thank-you, sir, for clarifying that you did only shoot in basic as I've seen some reviewers not even mention that very important detail. What i saw in this review is a basic mode Sony still able to compete with the iPhone, even though it lost. If anything, this review has reinforced my decision to purchase the Xperia

I use an Xperia 1 ii and ONLY shoot in Pro mode--it takes no more time and there's even a Auto function so you don't need to understand or change the settings. The quality difference is insane between Basic and Pro mode

I wonder witch settings is used on the Basic mode on Sony or if its Just out the box settings. Like is the hdr turned on is it on hi lo or off on shooting mode. Is the ai zoom turned on. This makes a world of differense and are settings on the Sony Basic. Sony also has a true auto mode that is way better then Basic and is true point and shoot.

Yeah agreed only a few have done a proper dive into the phone capability. The hdr is off in basic by default it switches automatically but has to detect the need for high dynamic range. You can enable it manually in pro mode. Check out this video bellow. Honesty required. "camera comparison" is not the same as "auto mode camera comparison" The Sony happens to be a pro camera that can be used as a phone. But the pro mode was "disappointing" for you without even showing what it can do. Your review seams biased in favor of iPhone (you even had an iwatch on!) The Sony has the alpha features of professional cameras in its pro-mode, dedicated shutter botton (that's why you hold it "horizontal!). Watch other Sony 1 iii reviews and see what your subscribers missed in this review. Promote Apple in a more open and honest way.

hey Enriquesed, we recommend watching our other camera reviews. We try to use the most common way people use their smartphone, and that is mostly in auto mode. That is why we compared them BOTH in auto mode. There is nothing biased about that.. and yes Sam is wearing an apple watch. That does not mean this video is biased.

Like testing "handling" of cars, Ferrari (iPhone) vs Tesla S (Sony) and praising the Ferrari seats, interior, engine sound, turning, 0-60,, quarter mile and, just before the end say "disappointing" that Tesla has a "beast mode" and "disappointing" you have to press a switch to activate. Unbiased would have been to state the best of its camera is found in the (real and true) pro mode. Its camera was plainly dismissed as inferior when that is incorrect. The main buyers are professional photographers for one reason: it is a professional camera that can be used as a phone. Fair: in auto mode iPhone is better, in pro mode Sony is better. Many phones have "pro mode." Sony's is designed for professional use, real pro mode, as per the dictionary. I love to see I am not the only one who felt the review was pro-IPhone. That's also why in point and shoot situation iPhone and Pixel are remain the king of smartphone photography. The problem is, if you start using the pro app on one device, you would have to use it on every other device aswell to get a comparable result. This does not make much sense to us, since 1. not every smartphone has a dedicated pro mode and most importantly 2. the majority of customers is not really using the Pro app to their full extent anyway, if they even touch it at all. The normal smartphone user wants to shoot a picture here and there and get a decent result without much editing work besides adding a filter sometimes and that's what the current smartphone market is actually dedicated to. So comparing the raw shots, generally makes more sense. Sony certainly tried to make a smartphone camera for professionals, but since there are compact cameras available (that definitely shoot better pictures than a smartphone), the base mode still is the most important one and should get more love. Sorry, but you lost me at your 1:35 "Dynamic range" comment. Do you actually know what dynamic range is? The Xperia has way more dynamic range here. Just look at the pavement. It appears natural in the Xperia footage but is almost completely blown out in some parts of the iphone footage. And sharpness is not something you want in raw footage from the camera. Better to do that in post with tools that do a much better job.

Basic mode cos mobile phone is point and shoot camera and computing photography not DSLR !!! Good night shoot without tripod is almost impossible and that's why software and AI is better in this case , portrait mode with small sensor and lens again is impossible without software algorithm.... That's why Iphone, Samsung, Huawei, Pixel pictures in most scenarios looks better than Sony and definitely is faster and easier to take nice photos and advantage for them is You can easily download Filmicpro or another third party apps to use pro mode or can find pro mode in any Android phone , good example is Google , old sensor and still nice photos, just press the button and voilà, IPhone great video and I'm thinking one of the best at the moment, Sony ofcourse nice phone but they are behind with software and AI

focus better on the iphone ??? it focus jump(video) , the the color and the overall quality on the xperia feels natural and has lens flare (video) , the skin tons so much better on the xperia (video) iphone gets better exposure because of hdr and sony is struggling with that(photo) , the to much blur on the iphone u can ajust that (photo) the sony has better natural detail ( photo) sony photos some feels unnatural cuz got a lot of exposure, because it feels like there are no user input touches, feels like everything has been manipulated in basic mode, for the better (Photo), the pro camera app takes more advantage of how you can handle light and retouch editing in raw

OKAY!!!! Stop saying the Xperia cant handle HDR well, it does it more realistically. iPhone gathers unnatural colors and boosts everything so much it just looks ugly and too overdone. Thats not how real cameras work or even your own eye. I can always tell if a shot has been made on an iphone cause its always just so overdone, its not the best if it keeps making the photo or video look too informatic, meaning it tries to overcompensate on everything it didnt get on one shot. I use an 12 pro max and with the all the bugs aside and the dead ends i face with the software almost every day, the camera is what really makes me hate it. Its just not worth the money in any universe when the quality is shabby. All the reviewers are wrong, they just want to appeal to apple so they can get views and make more money. Thats the harsh truth, like it or not.

Looks like, in some tests on Xperia, lenses are slightly dirty(maybe fingerprints) so image is not sharp and there are sunlight blur allaround the photo and video. I have Xperia 5II and it takes very nice, sharp, colorful, realistic photos and videos, especially 4k hdr 120 fps compared to iphone 11...
