As always, Sony phones are interesting to teardown. I haven’t seen a card reader placed between the two layer of logic boards. I think Sony is creative to save space in this small phone for a bigger battery. This small phone has the same battery capacity as the larger 1 III.

this phone is NOT small at all. It's the same size as 1 III, and definitely a big one compared to their XZ1 Compact form factor from 2017

How hard of a repair was that? My fingerprint sensor went bad and I'm considering replacing it. I've done battery replacements for phones and laptop screen/speaker replacements so I've done repairs before but I'm worried I'll screw this one up.

@@Anastasios912 Hi, thanks to this video it wasn't hard for me and I'm not experienced in reparing cell phones. (Only tried it once before with limited success ;-)). If you follow the steps, organise the different screws, use alcohol to soften the battery adhesive it shoud be allright.

Thanks! Only problem I had was keeping track of what screw went where. The top-right screw at 1:50 went into the lcd, damaging it at that point. I hope the LCD might recover after some time...

Yes, it's always important to keep a track of the screws, especially if they vary in size. Also with some phones including this one, even if its the correct screw, if you over tighten it just even a bit, it will damage the screen. Poor design if you ask me.

@@PBKreviewsWow, I'm back again 1 year later doing the same procedure. The combined power button and fingerprint sensor seems to break once a year for my wife. There button part of it fails so starting the phone with a flat battery is impossible.

I think Sony phones are trying to achieve one thing: make components as big as possible. Just look at the Pro I's board, that thing's gigantic. And then we have the biggest Flex cable for the Type C port.

Probably, if it has a bigger border around the screen would help keep it more rigid and less of a chance of it breaking if dropped etc.

I have the same thing. Sony gave me the finger because I'm in the US and mine is the international version. They wouldn't even look at it. And good luck finding someone local in Atlanta that's ever seen a Sony.... great vid btw.

Hi. the problem with water damage is that your not supposed to attempt to use it or else it can short parts in the phone like the main board. You need to take it apart and dry out any water n clean corrosion before attempting to use. So did you try plugging the replacement screen to the phone to see if it works? you don't need to put the entire phone back together, just plug the new screen to the board and then connect the battery cable and see if you can get it to power on and work. if not, chances are your board is bad.

Kind of confused by the score. Why so low? The s22 ultra has a higher score but is basically the same inside. These seem to be highly repairable compared to other phones out there. Every piece is modular and connects via a cable and isn't soldered or glued on. Aside from the sim / sd slot and screen being a bear to get to, everything else is easily replaced and repairable. I'd give it an 8 out of 10 IMO.

Really, the weakest LED flash I've ever see in a smartphone. Old Nokia N series had a more powerful and could successfully serve as a handheld flashlight. This what Sony has put in its smartphones is just a joke, really bad joke.

@@PBKreviews Unfortunately it is not. While a single flash for photos may still be enough, the function of constant illumination (for example, when shooting a video) is not. The flux of the emitted light is too weak and too scattered. Flashlight option in Sony's new flagship phones is something like going back to the days when the only source of light at dusk were candles, or kerosene lamps ;) There isn't a lot of video footage on YT (if there is one at all) showing how bad the LED flash is. In your video at least we can see why it's so bad...

@Veedo So maybe you should, if you are going to use the capabilities of the device, in terms of photos or filming. Illuminating the scene with another smartphone with a much more powerful led flasch, the quality of the recorded image by this and similar models of Sony smartphones is really gigantically better. It is difficult to understand the decision of Sony's designers, especially since they devoted so much time and work to create original and very extensive applications for taking photos and films - completely underestimating the issue of lighting the scene. Using the phone as a handheld flashlight is of course a less important addition, although in some situations very, very useful. If in this case we get an effect worse than the one that was available in over 10 years old devices, then the criticism is most justified - considering that we are talking about a completely new, current device, for a lot of money.
