Sony Xperia 5 V vs Xiaomi 13T Pro - Battle of the Almost Flagships

If the Xperia and Xiaomi were the same price, I'd choose the Xperia because of its more premium design and better main camera, but given the price difference - the Xiaomi 13T Pro wins out on value for money. Which do you prefer and why?

Probably the Xperia 5V for the more natural camera, better battery life, easy access to SIM card, expandable via microSD, and probably will last longer. But yeah, the Xiaomi 13T Pro definitely is better if you want something that is cheaper, charges faster, longer OS update cycle support, easier to use camera for dark/high contrast scenario, bigger screen, and better RAM/storage combo.

DXOMark scores for display: Xiaomi 13T Pro: 129. Sony 5v: 128. So actually the screens score nearly identical.....

Why is Sony Xperia 5 V is just better than Xiaomi 13T Pro: Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Vs. Mediatek Dimensity 9200+ While it's true that MT D9200+ is better than SD 8 Gen 2 when it comes to processing power, but it's only marginally and impossible to notice in day to day usage. HOWEVER SD 8 Gen 2's Adreno GPU is much better than Immortalis-G715 MC11. Camera. Yes Xiaomi 13T Pro does have a bigger sensor main cam with higher resolution but again only slightly (1/1.28" Vs. 1/1.35"), so Xperia 5 V wins by using a revolutionary technology sensor Exmor T. The Ultra Wide cam is better on Xperia 5 V thanks to the bigger sensor and better hardware but Xiaomi 13T Pro has a telephoto with X2 optical zoom while Xperia 5 V this year has no telephoto cam but it can still produce nice quality pic using digital zoom. Storage. Yes Xiaomi 13T Pro does have bigger capacity options (1TB Vs. 256GB) BUT Xperia 5 V does support memory card slot which is better than having to rely only on internal storage. Battery Both have 5000mAh but Sony Xperia 5 V uses a more battery efficient display as well as more battery efficient SoC. Premium design. Xperia 5 V design is more premium and protected with higher quality Gorilla glass (Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 Vs. The old Corning Gorilla Glass 5) Headphone Jack. USB Type C 3.3 Vs the traditional 2.0 on Xiaomi 13T Pro.

4:34 both aspect ratios are almost equally bad for viewing non cinematic content. You mentioned YT, but not even your videos are in 20:9, and most videos on YT, Netflix and other streaming platforms still run in 16:9. Most videos on those sites would have chunky black bars irrespective of how you look at it.

@@MJ-85 they removed optical zoom lens on 5 iv and now totally removed telephoto lens in 5v , that's a downgrade for 5 series right? ,5iii was good.

I wonder if the blue-shifting on the Xperia 5 V may be affected by the screen's white balance setting? It can be adjusted and it may be set slightly cooler out of the box. In addition , is there a difference between the standard mode and the creator mode for this phenomenon, since they also affect the white balance ?

I have the 5 V. I use standard mode with medium white balance. Never noticed any blue-shift in normal use of the phone. I had to go chek for it now and blue shift becomes visible only at extreme angles 150-180 degrees. And to answer your question I went troguh the different settings and they dont seem to affect blue-shifting.

Have you tried leaning on the pro modes a bit more or found a gcam apk that works? Agree that Xiaomi’s processing on this phone drops the ball.

I haven't tried gcam, but did get better results from Pro mode on the 13T Pro - less dramatic processing, more shadow detail. It's a shame as Xiaomi's processing on the 13 Ultra is superb. Hope you get it to a state that works for you, and thanks for the comment Golan (and happy new year :) Basil

It's sad that they needed to downgrade the screen due to the green-line issue that plagues the previous Xperia 5 series. This one really makes it look like it's the Xperia 10 series. Should've started at $899

The xperia 5 V was perfect until it has received A14. My phone now has got awful transitions, like 20fps and scrolling its like a entry level phone. With A13 and the screen fixed at 60hz was perfect to me, now I hate it

I have animation lag when I unlock via fingerprint scanner at 60hz since A14 update. The wall paper stutters and a white flash surround at times

The 5 V is a big downgrade compared to the 5 IV. Those big bezels on the 5 V are unbelievable. No telephoto, no notification LED and a worse screen quality. 👎 I hope they will make the VI series a lot better.

I have always been a Sony fan but their latest name model is terrible. I no longer know which one is their glaship and which one is their mid-ranger. Also, which one is the latest model and which one is the last year's one... Why couldn't they just named them Xperia 1, Xperia 1 Pro; Xperia 2, Xperia 2 Pro, Xperia 3, Xperia 3 Pro, etc..?

Xperia 1: Big "ultra" flagship Xperia 5: compact premium device Xperia 10: compact midrange device It's honestly not rocket science , is it? And at the end, a roman letter is added for the generation. So Xperia 5 V is pronounced "5 Mark 5".
