Sony XPERIA Pro-I Camera: Why is this SO good?

TEAM SGG PATREON / somegadgetguy While I wrap up shooting samples for a more in depth camera look at the Pro-I, and some upcoming comparisons, I wanted to take a couple minutes to chat about camera design. A camera is more complicated than just a shutter button on a screen. Sony shows a LOT of thought can go into helping a user produce better content.

The main concern seems to be what the photos look like on Instagram. Sony phones really are made for different audience of users, and it's really irritating when the "aV3r4G3 cUnzHumeRs" keep on comparing Xperias to the mainstream flagships, then make a conclusion that it is inferior because it doesn't fit their needs very well. Duhh, I could even say the same for an iPhone or Galaxy and say that it is a bad phone because it is not what is appropriate to me, but I know for a fact that it was made for an entirely different type of smartphone users, which is to say that it is not for me. In the end, I still do appreciate what those phones are really good at even if they aren't suited for me, so I really do wish that people from the other side would do the same towards the Xperias. I only see some few of them do, and I really respect them for that.

Sony phones offer a different kind of photography experience much closer as to how you would on cameras and people in general are just not getting it. The funny thing is all those modes in the camera app are just Auto in a dedicated camera system. In other words, it's just one dial but other tech reviewers make it sound as if it is really that complicated to use because they are overwhelmed with those extra buttons and controls they are unfamiliar with.

Could appear to be intimidating, but the learning curve in fact makes a lot of sense. It's a tested design in so many praised Sony's cameras. This software kinda teaches you how to improve as a photographer. It's not in fact as confusing and cramped as any other brand camera software. It's all well layered out. Refreshing to see a camera software free of so many carousels in a relatively small touch screen. It's more inviting to try to use the options, without losing some configuration in an accidental swap of a finger

I see most of the reviewers complaining about Sony auto mode and how inferior to iPhone it is at the same time they forget that both phones are tools to different purposes also the auto mode of the Xperia really delivers even if you want to get a quick snap and don't have time to adjust the settings you want and yes if you go manual you will be enjoying even more hence you are dialling in to your preference and feels like you achieved something when you get that perfect shot you wanted. All in all Sony Xperia excel at the task that it is built to do and you can't really compare apple and orange because they different type of fruits so why do it in a smart phone that is built for a specific purpose. This is the kind of reviewer that should review the Sony Xperia Pro-i bcoz he knows what this phone is capable of. I'm sick of watching those so called "techie" reviewers reviewing this phone and put it on "auto" mode then bashing the quality comparing to other "computational/AI" based camera phone. This phone is obviously not for the average consumer who just want to be spoonfeed and the convenience of a point and shoot camera smartphone. U can learn a lot from this phone if u have patience and put effort to it and the end results is amazing! This is the true definition of a "Pro" phone and it deserve the name compared to other smartphones bcoz u have to use yr manually skill and your own creativity and there's always a learning curve into it, unlike other phones that are totally spoonfeed by AI/Computational but labelled as "Pro" .

What Sony did in terms of marketing is clumsy. I DO feel they deserve a bit of a frown there. We are using a CROP of the sensor not the whole sensor. Still I think it's CRITICAL to keep in perspective that what we DO get to use is roughly 60% larger than an iPhone 13 Pro AND has a two stage aperture. That's an INCREDIBLE phone camera improvement, and legit pro hardware.

By having the fastest autofocus and highest burst shot capability of any smartphone today, this is indeed the best camera to take quick shots. No need to worry about the results, you can edit them later on in photo editing apps, especially when you shot the images in RAW. But having the fastest & most accurate autofocus, as well as the incredibly high fps burst mode capability GREATLY increases the chance of nailing a once-in-a-lifetime moment shot with the Xperias. While the Sony is already ready to take another snapshot, the Galaxies and Pixels are still buffering in the background to finish their artificial post processing to make the results unnatural.

@@michaelcorcoran8768 But when you say "niche" it's a relatively large niche. There is no shortage of photography, and videography enthusiasts aside from the pros, vloggers, and KZbinrs that would buy the Xperia Pro I. Plus I think you are misreading SONY in thinking they care about scale. They are interested in quality over quantity. Does Mercedes or Lexus sell the most cars? No. But they are more highly regarded than most, sell for more money and turn more profit per car. As well as have brand equity. I think that's what SONY is aiming for. To be an upmarket premium brand in the space. While most people can't afford 1800 bucks for a phone, there are more than enough people, professionals, and industries/businesses that can.
