I wish I could post a picture but SmallRig has a cage that cures the battery problem and gives you a slightly bigger handle that really does help!

To focus on the river you need to use spot focus because wide area will always focus on what is nearest to the camera

Hurrah!!!! A NEW "UK Airscape" review! I couldn't believe it when I saw it pop up. This channel, along with "Tube Shooter Mag," is how I first "met" you several years ago, David, long before I subscribed to "Cruising the Cut" or "Vandemonium." Great to see another camera review from you! Thanks and stay safe!

Hello again Craig! Haha yes, it's been very quiet here of course but when I bought the new camera I thought I'd pop something up. Cheers

I was hesitating between the ax 53 and the zv1 so you just brought light to my day. thank you for that and for your serious reviews ;)

Thanks for the review! To be honest, I don't do any vlogging (or filming for that matter) whatsoever, but watching your video makes me want to go buy a camera and film something ;) Cheers!

Hey! im so glad you talked about your other channels in the van one. im currently looking for a new camera. There is a version of this that has the E mount. BTW it has bluetooth, so you could use it for BT headphones for playback. I know, its weird, but thas the workarround i thought.

Cheers. Yes it's an interesting camera, shame they took away the inbuilt ND filter

Thank you David - enjoyed the review (as always). The lack of a headphone jack is a dealbreaker for this camera. Sorry to go off topic; we are considering either the Sony FDR-3000 or the DJI Osmo Action for our next action camera - we've destroyed our latest GoPro (yet again - grrrrr! ). Any thoughts on the old Sony vs newish Osmo Action? Cheers, Gavin & Amanda

I've not used the Sony though I did have one of the prior (HD) versions which was OK but no screen (though I think you get a WiFi screen with it now, don't you? That's either a pro or a con depending on your point of view). I think it's supposed to be quite a decent cam albeit getting on a bit by now. I presume you mean the X3000 which has the BOSS stabilisation. It doesn't shoot 50/60p I notice, which the Osmo does. I am very impressed with the Osmo for its stabilisation, though the picture is not as detailed in 4K as I would like and it's poor if you're not filming outside in decent light. I'm using it mostly for handheld pieces to camera while on the boat, as well as quick shots for operating the locks etc where its wide angle means I can set it up roughly pointing in the right direction and still be happy it'll get the shot (eg while operating a lock)

@@UKAirscape - Apologies David, it is indeed the Sony X3000 we are considering. Everyone we know who owns one, raves about it. We don't know anyone with the Osmo Action. The age of the X3000 concerns us - there are rumours of a Sony A7s III about to emerge, so are they about to replace the X3000 too? It's approximately five years old now, so knowing our luck we'll buy one the day before a new and improved model is released . . . . Our intended use is somewhat similar to yours; capturing sailing and water-related adventures when there's salt spray flying - for everything else we have a Sony FDR-AX53 and a variable ND/circular polariser for recording under the brutal Australian sun. Best regards, Gavin & Amanda

There is indeed a new A7S about to be launched but I wouldn't correlate that in any way to a new version of the action cam, I don't think Sony schedule their releases like that. That's not to say a new version of the X3000 isn't due also, of course! Apart from the fiscal impact of buying something that's immediately replaced, I wouldn't worry too much because whatever you buy will always be superseded; the question is whether the product that's available does the job you need it to do. If so, buy it.

The picture and video images from this camera are really good, and it would make a great travel companion. The FOV is a deal breaker for me, I agree with your thoughts on showing the Vista separate but It would be nice to include yourself in the view as well. I've been using a Sony ax53 camcorder, recently switched to a Canon eos M50 mirrorless camera as I wanted a travel/holiday camera that does video and stills but as a great camera it is, it still a bit bulky I also use a gopro hero 8 but the stills are not great, the ZV1 on paper at least was best solution for me, looking forward to seeing how you get on with it. I have been following your adventures in your narrow boat and campervan from the beginning, on a side note the campervan would look nice with a set of alloy wheels 😁. Keep up the excellent work Best wishes Jon

Cheers, yes a nice set of alloys is a good idea, the rusty steel wheels are not a good look!

Hi David, I have crossed over to Vandemonium (rather than the dark side) re. vibration, I naively ask, can one buy a 'handle' similar to the albeit overpriced one you showed, which has a built in 'damper'?

You mean like a gimbal? Yes there are plenty about but they're not cheap.

Ah, if only I could afford that kind of kit! And my eyes are too crap to really tell the difference between 8-bit 4:2:0 and 10-bit 4:2:2 anyway hahaha
