So very helpful - thank you. As I have a tremor, I'm mainly using a tripod - but clearly this greatly limits me. I will also try making the tripod smaller and carry that vs me holding it - I actually think this will make the recording more shaky. Slowing my breathing helps. What configuration would you suggest I use if I am hand-holding the camera while filming movement? Thank you for your videos - they are so very helpful to a novice!

What audio sounds better in your opinion, 5.1 surround channel which gathers sound in 5 different directions or 2 ch? I do understand you can only have it on 5.1 surround mode on AVDHD mode. I would be using this camera for the outdoors

5.1 would inherently sound "better" due to recording more aspects of the soundscape but it depends on your audience having the correct equipment to play it back. For most everyday purposes, stereo would be fine and what much video is viewed as. This then gives you the flexibility to choose the better video format.

To focus on the river you need to use spot focus because wide area will always focus on what is nearest to the camera

Seems this camera is still relevant and you are still replying to people. Here's an interesting question for you: Does it output 4k at 50-60hz through HDMI? If so, one can indeed record at 50-60fps in 4K with a capture device attached to it's HDMI port, correct?

@@UKAirscape I don't understand why you don't know, or why no one has demonstrated it in the 100's of KZbin review videos for this camera. This 4K camera plugged into a 4K TV should be well understood. Not owning a 4K TV is my excuse, but that will change in a few days. I suspect it's not too complicated to create 60fps 4K video with this camera, with the help of software of course. Another thing...what is up with the HDMI resolution settings showing "2160p/1080p"?? One reviewer thought that was simply FHD! Did they set out to confuse us? Why wasn't it simply labelled "2160p - Outputs the 2160p signal"?

I don't know the output because I never plug the camcorder into a TV. I can tell you absolutely it does not provide 50/60p though, the camcorder is 25/30 only.

Just turn it around so the 'front' mic is facing you if you want your interviewee to plugged in replacing the back mic.

Well yes but the two mics are not the same, the rear one isn't as good and diirectional as the forward one so as soon as I'd finished with the plug-in interview mic, I'd want to turn the Deity around again and this would just get tiresome.

I know im a little late but to turn off level shot you just have to press the button directly below the play movies button. It goes from off>level shot>level shot strong.

Please help me! I just recorded video for the first time using this video camera and for the life of me, I simply cannot get the footage off of the video camera. - First I attempted to connect the camera directly to my iMac. But everything in the instruction manual shows only how to (view) the footage on my computer screen. (which is useless to me if I can't get it off/out of the video camera. - Then I purchased a flash card reader and sure enough I can see all the folders on the card - and everyone of them display on my computer as ("empty"). I was shocked and began sweating and stressing out! Had I screwed up and not really recorded anything???? - I took the SD card out of the flash card reader, put it back into the video camera, pressed "Thumbnails" and presto!... There is all of the footage I shot. - I can clearly see it on the camera, but I can't get it out of there! - I've done a ton of Google searches and NOBODY explains how to get the stupid footage off of this camera. - There are multiple videos on KZbin explaining the basic operation of this camera and so-called "QuickStart" methods - And still, nobody tells you how to get the stupid footage off of this camera! I've tried calling Sony Tech Support and was transferred 4 times because they kept telling me "we're sorry, that's professional equipment so we have to transfer you to a different department. Once I finally got to the right department, they told me to leave a message and someone would get back to me in 24. hours. That never happened and I'm still here now nearly a week after these incredibly important and time sensitive videos, still trying to get the stupid footage off of this camera. PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!

Hi! Thank you for this video. Is it better to shoot in 4K or in HD in either low and good light conditions, football games. I wonder how the camera will do if I zoom in accross the field, are the players going to be "visible"?!

Of course but it's an absolute pain in the arse doing that every time then putting it back on again. Enough people have found it a nuisance that on the later AX43 Sony have included an option in the menus to keep the camera off when the screen is opened.

Not really, no. Very few small cameras will do well in low light (nor some bigger ones). You need something like a Sony A7S or an FX3. Failing that an FX30.

It's a very nice cam ax33 ax43 ax53 have the same stabilisation system. when face cam you don't need 4k and use 4k for filmiming !

It's a perfectly fine codec. I don't use Premiere Pro so can't definitively answer but I'd be amazed if it couldn't handle it, Sony camcorders are so prevalent.

Wonderful video, thank you for sharing this! I was wondering if you had any problems with OBS seeing your program feed? We are using the same AVMatrix system at our baseball ballpark, but whenever we connect to OBS, the program feed in the studio is black. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I had no problems at all, it connected straight away and saw it as a webcam. However I do recall seeing a review of this mixer where someone claimed its output was incompatible with Macs and so I was anxious but I didn't have any issues. I suppose it's worth checking the mixer firmware version you're running; send AV Matrix an email; and it may depend what version of MacOS you're running (or Windows of course if that's your platform)

That's not "better" low light, just fixing the amount of gain the camera will add. It will prevent more noise being added but also means dark images will remain dark. There's no single "best" setting, it depends on individual needs and circumstances.

No, that's incorrect. You get a 30x zoom in 4K and 40x in HD (the optical zoom alone is 20x). You are correct that Steadyshot must be Active or Intelligent Active

@@UKAirscape no you are wrong. i tested it. 4k gives only 20x optical plus digital zoom. 4k video uses more of the sensor area that 1080p would use for the CIZ feature so the extra 10x CIZ is not available in 4k. a zoomed image is smaller in 4k than in 1080p.

You do get CIZ in 4K. CIZ *is* a digital zoom. Here, from Sony's own website: "20x optical zoom lens and Clear Image Zoom of 30x/40x (for 4K/HD) allow you to shoot faraway subjects"

@@UKAirscape CIZ works with digital zoom 250x turned off. it is not part of 250x digital zoom feature. so test it as i did. turn off DZ and see what zoom you get in both 4k and 1080p. you will find 1080p is more powerful than 4k.

Any self-powered (ie battery powered) unbalanced mic with a 3.5mm jack should work. Unlike some other camcorders, the Canon's don't supply "plugin power" to the mic jack, if I recall correctly, hence the need for them to have their own battery.
