Great comparison. I don’t think I ever want to buy ultra wide lens again for vlogging . Just use the DJI Osmo pocket. This thing practically runs all day with the expanded battery.
@NikoBols

Really? Given a choice, I’d still go for the mirrorless camera + ultra wide lens combo. But…kids…hahaha. For the Osmo Pocket 3, not only does it have a battery pack, it also charges so fast!
@MikeBSalazar
@MikeBSalazar Жыл бұрын
I just came back from the Sony event filming in 4k. The battery pack finished and still had like 80-90% left on the osmo itself. Crazy. But yes, can appreciate the mirrorless bodies for sure. I suppose maybe only two cameras at most haha.@@NikoBols

But that has to do with how the setting were . In a way the convenience and trust you can place on the pockets auto is great. But there's no comparing the dynamic range and possibilities of a full frame in terms of looks.

I looked more into this: - Osmo3 is 20mm f/5.4 equiv - iPhone 15Pro main camera is 24mm f/6.3 equiv (1.2x focal length, 1.17x aperture, so more or less same depth of field / light gathering) - ZV-E1 with 20mm f/2.8 gives you 4x the light gathering and shallow depth of field (and flexility to use even faster lenses) So compared to the iPhone 15Pro, the Osmo 3 gives you a wider image with physical stabilisation with more or less the same depth of field and low light performance. You can match this performance on the ZV-E1 by setting the lens to f/5.4.

You need to stop the full frame f equivalent nonsense narrative. It is not actually like that, because of people like you photographer move like from APSC to full frame expecting to get the so mentioned additional stops of light just to get disappointed
@DigiDriftZone
@DigiDriftZone Жыл бұрын
@@CLVlogs05 Who's getting disappointed? - What's nonsense? - it's basic physics, you can't get the same number of photons hitting the sensor on an f/2.8 lens on a phone sensor as an f/2.8 lens on medium format. Not calculating equivalence is like forgetting to convert miles to kilometres when calculating distance on different systems. I wasted so much time on APS-C trying to get faster huge and heavy lenses and still being disappointed by the performance. It absolutely works like that, you are getting 1.5x more light gathering all else being equal going from APS-C to full frame, so less noise in low light, you can shoot at higher shutter speeds and get much better results on f/4 zoom lenses on full frame compares to big/heavy/expensive f/2.8 zooms on APS-C, by quite some margin (and that's before you start using full frame f/2.8 zooms and f/1.8 primes). Understanding this difference can save you a huge amount of time and money. I shrunk my gear size, saved money and all of my images and video are drastically better by going to full frame for my use case. I recorded a short video about it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l3u8hK1qorBsa7s

I cant tel you how Sony is desiginting their lenses and sneosr, but this has already being debunked in practically you don't get as much light as everyobody mentiones when you go from aspc to full frame. I;ve own both cameras and can tell you the same. is not even close to 2 times the stop of the same equivalent on apsc. More light yeah, but not as the math people mention suggest. @@DigiDriftZone
@DigiDriftZone
@DigiDriftZone Жыл бұрын
@@CLVlogs05 I don't know what you are talking about, the maths is very straightforward and very well understood, just like you can't debunk converting from miles to km, you can't debunk this. Anyone that claimed to have "debunked" this simply forgot to apply the calculations to ISO, rookie mistake.

great idea to compare these 2! i will say though that the osmo is a fixed lens right? so maybe it would have been more fair to do a small pancake prime for the zv-e1 and lose the cage setup to kind of even up the score? def more dynamic range in the auto on the osmo but it also might be hlg or hdr/ and kinda seems weird like a face filter so it loses some sharpness and detail, but it def doesn't blow out as much. things flip when its in log, but then again the zve1 is a beast and is pretty much the same camera that shot the creator, so if you can expose and modify light well, it doesn't matter which one you choose. but yeah it was nice to see side by side!

Good point! The problem is I don’t own a pancake lens at the moment 😬 Also, the widest pancake lens I can think of is the Sony 24 f/2.8 which I think might be tight already compared to the Osmo Pocket.

Great video. Question - pocket 3 is great, but it seems it can't match the ability of ZV-E1 in achieving the very dramatic bokeh and shallow depth of field effect, which makes a huge difference in producing cinematic video and "story" beyond doing home videos. What do you think? Is it possible for small camera ever to produce good bokeh effect?
@NikoBols
@NikoBols Жыл бұрын
If producing bokeh is your priority, then yeah, you should go with the ZV-E1. The smaller sensor of the Pocket 3 will be a limitation for bokeh (although it’s not because of the sensor per se…but this is for another topic 😂). When you look at 1:15 of the video, that’s the bokeh that you can get from the Pocket 3.
@ericchen1205

Thanks for the quick reply. I am interested to learn from you about "...not because of the sensor per se…but this is for another topic...". So what are the main reasons these small camera can't achive good bokeh effect? The fixed lens not fast enough? Thanks!! @@NikoBols
@bladerealm124
@bladerealm124 11 ай бұрын
@@ericchen1205smaller sensors can't achieve as shallow depth of field as something like the full-frame ZV-E1, at least not without some crazy aperture that wouldn't be possible with today's technology. That's why smartphones have to resort to a digital fake bokeh effect. 20mm f2 on the Pocket 3 1-inch sensor is equivalent to ~f5.6 on the ZV-E1. If you were to stop any lens down to f5.6 on the ZV-E1 it should be about the same "amount" of bokeh.
