I just got my WF M4 buds after about a month's wait for them to come in and all I can say is WOW. I am blown away at how well these little things work. Up until now I've been using my Bose Quiet Comfort 35 over ear which I have been pleased with and were used every day but not any more. I can't believe it but these buds out perform the Bose 35 in every way, well worth the wait and $$$.

I just returned them because the volume of these left a lot to be desired. I hated turning them on and wanting to put the volume up, and they were already on MAX. Plus, sound quality changed between low volume and max volume.

i really hope sony will get on board with smartwatches, then sony ecosystem would be complete, imagine having newest xperia phone, newest earbuds, newest smartwatch, new sony bravia 4k tv, ps5 and sony headphones for tv(i like watching movies with headphones)... damn this would be quality ecosystem to be in comparing to others. oh yeah also tablet, wish sony would make those too, hope when my samsung devices will be old in 4 5 years, sony will have all these and i can jump to full ecosystem, im glad they are moving to right direction.

Sony is like the only other non-Samsung Android manufacturer left so they need to make a tablet just so Samsung will have competition from both Apple and Sony... Competition forces companies to make better products and I would love to see some high quality Android tablets wherever it comes from... the same can be said for smartwatches... here's to hoping they can release something crucial in the tablet and/or smartwatch space in the next few years!

I really think i wont miss the multi-device bluetooth link at all. I currently have that enabled on my Airpods Pro and I have been in some awkward situations when the active link changes from my iPhone to my iPad when it shouldn’t… (usually in a place I’m not supposed to make noise). It’s horrible and awkward. It’s better to know that your headphones are connected to that device and to that device only, so it wont switch to normal speakers. There are plenty of apps that, unlike KZbin or Spotify, do not stop broadcasting media if your audio output settings are changed.

There are lots of third party eartips available for all earphones. I notice that audiophiles will usually replace stock silicone tips with Dekoni foam tips. These come with foam tips, but I bet you could find some wing tips if you looked around some. Just try to figure out if the diameter is large enough for it to fit on the earbud.

Hi Jason - they should be giving you way better noise cancellation than the Apple ones. All I can think of is to make sure you've done the test to get the perfect fitting tips. The combination of the perfect fit and the noise cancelling on top of that is what makes this so incredible... Going back and forth between ambient mode and noise cancelling mode should be like night and day...

If you are keeping them, it might be worth getting custom tips moulded to the shape of your ear. I got Adv-sound moulds for my Fiio FH-7. Sound doesn’t change but the fit and comfort improve significantly. Only thing is the bud will sit a little further out of your ear, but very secure and safe from dropping

If you are missing multipoint on iOS, creating shortcuts on my iPhone and iPad with a single tap I am able to pair to either device.

Open Shortcuts, create new, Set playback destination to WF-1000XM4. Note make sure the earbuds are already paired with the device before creating the shortcut. Also I named the shortcut on my iPhone XM4 iPhone and on my iPad XM4 iPad (not sure if same would work on both). It creates a shortcut which I then dragged to my 1st primary app screen.

I’ve only used them briefly. With ANC on yes there is a tiny bit of white noise. But the room has to be silent for you to notice. In fairness as these are in ear I think you notice more anyway.

It's amazing how they eliminate white noise. It actually freaked me out how good they are at that. Even on a plane they did an astonishingly good job for the form factor! Very very impressive

Help. Are mine broken or am I going deaf? I wear these with the volume turned up to maximum on my iPhone and they're not loud enough nor imposing. I haven't tried fiddling with the graphic equaliser yet and maybe that will help but I was hugely disappointed. Maybe I've got a duff pair?

Hi John. Once you've dialled in the sound settings you will be very happy with the sound settings. I personally really enjoy proper punchy bass, and the difference once I'd set them up (Vs straight out of the box settings) was huge. That said, I have heard people wanting more volume, and that can be done too... But the overall volume is limited by (EU?) safety standards. This can be overridden and you can get info on that from the Walkman blog. Personally I like to stay within the pre-set volume levels because I want to try and safeguard my long-term hearing. Really love mine with some caveats: 1) I wish the touch controls were more customizable, 2) sometimes I have to take a bud out of my ear because it isn't immediately recognized. 100% agree on multi-point bluetooth. My Jabra 75t had multi-point, plus the controls customization is much better. Sound is great. Stays in my ears when running. Love the batter life. ANC is good (but not a primary for me). The app crashes on launch about 1 in 5 times. I've had them from launch day.

My case constantly flashes red now. And doesn't charge the buds. Tried resetting, different usb cable, wireless charging the case etc. Still the same. £280 and now dead. They sound good but suffer badly from wind noise compared to my previous B&O pair.

I tried them a bit but the fit is better on Galaxy Buds Pro, and multipoint + volume adjustment is avilable on the Huawei Freebuds Pro so I wish some day all those smartphone companies collaborate and make the best earbuds in the world.

Love your videos. I fell in love with many things Japanese when I got dumped into a Japanese class in middle school. It was thrown together as an overflow class, but ended up being one of the most memorable classes of my childhood. I want to be a sony fan, but am sadly falling into the category of disillusioned. I planned on the sony erricson xperia x10 being my first smartphone, but the delayed release, outdated software, and lack of multi-touch support pushed me to the samsung captivate. Now just over 10 years later, I have money in hand for a 1m3, and release delays and the price increase are pushing me away. I'm holding out to July 1 to see if they bundle in the xm4's, which may make the $100 price increase for the phone more palatable. If not, I sadly won't be a sony owner, again. Either way, can't wait for your 1m3 review.

Thanks so much for your comment. I completely understand your point of view and for what it's worth I share it. I find it enormously frustrating these delays. For lots of reasons. And they keep on happening! If you're able to wait I have a feeling you'll be happy you did, but I completely respect anyone who is unable or unwilling to wait. I most certainly wouldn't blame them for moving on. Regarding the Japanese stuff, that's going to be the most fun part of this project. I've been invited by some Sony employees to Tokyo and I cannot wait to do videos from there. The trip has been postponed twice due to covid but I'm hoping I can go at the end of this year. Have to agree with you Tom, these are 9/10 for me, so good..... My only issue is the fit, which as you say, doesn't feel as "locked in" as some buds with "tips" or "wings" which would be appreciated for running and listening when lying down.... I'm very happy though 😊

Yes - I really do think with a slick Bose-style wing and multipoint Bluetooth, these would be perfect. I was due to use these in the gym but the vaccine wiped me out for a couple of days. I hope they stay in my ear at the gym! They work amazingly well on a plane - that noise cancelling tech really is amazing. Thanks for commenting Dave! Cheers, Tom 🙏

How did they end up working for you in the gym? I have purchased these and they sound amazing but I’m just not feeling confident in the fit, they don’t feel like they are gonna come out but they feel like the are just hanging on in my ears and don’t have eve ultimate seal. A wing would be amazing on these I agree. Maybe I’ll have to try another brand because these are way to expensive to not feel confident that they aren’t going to fall out or that they kinda hurt and fatigue my ears quickly

@@S3ndIt13 but i hate because mtw 2 only right earbud work as signal tf receiver.. even cheap galaxy bud pro both earbud work as signal tf.. but mtw2 sure give alot better audio quality just lack of features.. hope mtw3 both earbud can work as signal tf reciver because i want tk use only 1 earbud while other put in case to charge.. so i can use it infinity loop for gaming..

The lack of Multipoint isn't actually that big a deal as it means losing LDAC (at least, that's the case with the WH-1000XM4) and for those of us who bought these for the sound quality, it's a reasonable trade-off. I suspect Sony might add it later?

The multipoint pairing kills battery like hell and also disables LDAC, that's why I turned it off instantly on my large XM4 even it has multipoint pairing.

I totally feel you about bose fit. It's just perfect I can listen 24/7 and not feel ear fatigue or feel like it's there. Even apple AirPods pro is locked in and feels good. Those style buds tho, I tried the Samsung one and I always felt that it might fall off when walk or something so I returned them. Do you think you can wear those for a long time and not get fatigued?

Yes I could have these in all day I reckon. Just had them in on a flight from Miami to London and the noise cancelling works so well that I don't feel like I need to have the WH over-ear design anymore! Have these in practically the entire flight, never uncomfortable - amazing really! Of they had a similar wing type extension, like the Bose I'd feel better about their ability to stay in my ears, even during exercise

I returned mine. AirPods Pro are a good fit for me but it starts to hurt a little maybe after 3-4 hours of wear but these sonys I couldn't wear for more than 30mins even with the smallest tips. it also doesn't sit on the ear nicely either so depending on your ear shape it might look ridiculous looking from front it flares out. I also feel it looks bigger in person than I have seen in videos idk maybe because I got the grey one. but the sound quality.. oh boy it sounds amazing! but if I can't wear it for more than 30 mins no point so sadly had to return mine

I think I saw someone wrote that here in the comments too. I think it's much more likely Sony would go the XM3 route in a bundle... I'd be happy with that - I'd sell them and use the money to get the XM4's ;)

Is there a trade off between battery life and multi-point bluetooth? Otherwise, why omit that capability? My current W1000x Sony's are very nice but switching from laptop to phone is slow and unreliable (to the point where I have 2 sets to avoid the hassle). The WF1000XMF4 is very attractive provided it switches more easily between devices as part of the new bluetooth standard.

I still hesitate to decide get the WF-1000xm4. Currently I'm use WF- 1000xm3 and WF- SP700N. Been using WF- 1000xm3 for a while after it released, I feel the quality sound not good like the SP700N. If only I can listen the sound from 1000xm4, I could be decide should I get or not.

These replaced my pixel buds on my pixel 5. The ANC is impressive, the sound is great. I was very surprised how comfortable they are, I didn't expect them to be as compared to the pixel buds which for my ear where a perfect fit but these are close to the same and I don't get ear fatigue or pain which is a huge plus. The app works well also, even on the android 12 betas, so far no issues. I agree on the 5 start review, I really love these very much. I agree with the minus of the multi BT support, that would make them perfect.

Cheers Eddie - interesting to hear your viewpoint given that you're coming from Pixel Buds. I always liked the design of those Pixel Buds actually - good products. @@tech_edit I had similar issues to most due to the way BT was setup on the Pixel buds Tom. Even with the fixes they are spotty at best. I don't have to those issues with these. On an aside, I do miss your co-host Bob the bonsai.

WXm3 wireless just fell out of my ears so they were returned. I can see the improvement in shape. Here is one big negative and inly one brand has addressed this. When you want to watch a movie on a plane with wireless headphones it is impossible. I think Bower Wilkins has addressed this

Hi Tom, congrats on your new purchase. Thanks for this first impressions video. That would be nice if you are moving back to UK and wish you a nice trip back, they certainly have the battery life for the flight :) I am curious about battery life on them with anc off, because on my XM3 i go from 7 hours to around 2hours only when i activate both EQ and DSEE at the same timewith AAC codec. (I dont care about ldac too many trade off for me, even if it would be a nice thing to have)

Cheers Joe - thanks for your comment. It feels good to be back in the UK again. It's been a long time! That flight from Miami was so much better with these new earphones. They did an admirable job cutting out all the noise on the flight. I need to spend some more time monitoring battery depletion times in the various modes/settings etc. All I know so far, is the battery life is genuinely impressive, considering I am one who likes to crank up the volume and always have ANC on... I'll do a follow up on these soon with more info

Mine is like that too and I suspect that it's because if the lid were fixed to the point it had no 'give' at all then it would most likely break if dropped - as there'd be too much pressure on the hinge upon impact. Just my theory but either way, I've only handled two of these and they're both the same, and that gives me more confidence in my theory. Bottom line: in my opinion, you're fine! Cheers, Tom 🙏
