She even really enjoyed the 2010 movie and the Cobra Kai series and when I told her a new movie was apparently in the works she was estatic. She sadly passed away back in August so this is going to be really bittersweet to me. It looks good though, I'm excited for it.

I experienced the first Karate Kid movie in theaters when I was 9 years old. I had never seen a theater full of people cheering and gasping during the fight scenes. That was not a thing in 1984, you sat down and were quiet. I'll never forget that moment. I'm glad to be alive and hopefully see this at 50 years old.

I’m 31 years old. Grew up during/in the middle of the meteoric rise of Jackie Chan’s kung fu and action films in the west during the 90’s and early 00’s. Watched this man make almost as much of an impression on the world culturally as Bruce Lee but in his own way. Cultural icon. Watched him hang from helicopters, run through glass, jump off buildings and cliffs onto hot air balloons, everything. It’s so surreal to see Jackie with gray hair now and visibly seeing him really age. In his late life he’s been somewhat of a polarizing figure for what he supports politcally and his personal life but I will always LOVE this man as he’s been in my life and inspired and amazed me since I was a little boy. Enjoy Jackie Chan and allow him to have all the flowers that he deserves right now. He gave his life in ways that people nowadays wouldn’t even be able to conceive of to entertain us with his absolutely legendary REAL career. All these years later he’s still here for us. From his beginnings in the Bruceploitation years starting in New Fist of Fury to breaking out in Snake in the Eagle’s Shadow/Fearless Hyena/Drunken Master, to carving out his own role in the industry as THE kung fu action Star with Police Story and stuff like Operation Condor, to becoming so big that Hollywood had to let him in with Rumble in the Bronx and Rush Hour, to the Karate Kid remake to Legends. Not bad for a kid that was nearly sold to the doctor that delivered him because his family was so poor, not bad for one of the Peking Opera School’s little fortunes. Jackie is pushing 70 years old and he still hasn’t left our side.

COMBINING BOTH KARATE AND KUNGFU IS A LEGENDARY IDEA! As someone who practices Karate and learned a lot of info about kung fu combining the two really is such a cool concept. (not at all claiming to be an expert in either Karate and Kungfu) But combining a lot of Kungfu's quick striking motions with Karate's athletic fighting movements is such a good combination.
