I'm in love for the 2719. I was watching the video with its restoration in the late 90's. Just amazing the old technics applied on it. I'm from São Paulo, but I want to visit the 2719 soon. Thank you, well done video and presentation.

Josh, thank you for this one. Growing up in Glenwood, the first division point west of Shoreham, I was around these Soo Line locomotives a lot in the late 40s and early 50s. The roundhouse at Glenwood always had a number of locomotives sheltered and being worked on. I will never forget the smell of hot valve oil and coal smoke in my dad's clothes and we are reminded of these fantastic memories when we run steam on our 7-1/2 gauge railroad. Thank you for this one. BTW, I had a chance to ride in the cab of 1003 some years ago near Colfax WI. A lot of memories came up and I had trouble containing my emotions of riding my dad's train between Vergas and Dent MN way back when.

Hi from Green Bay, and the National Railroad Museum, with her sister #2718 donated in 1957 as the 2nd loco behind Milwaukee Road #261. There are 4 of these locos saved, with #2719 first at Eau Claire then moving to Duluth. Then #2718 here in Green Bay, plus I want to rebuild her and modernize it with new welded boiler and larger tender with 6 wheel trucks to carry more coal and water, plus temporarily repaint like C&NW 400 plus Milwaukee Road Chippewa. Next is #2714 at Fonddulacs' Lakeside Park that was moved over city streets. Next is #2713 in Stevens Point near original Soo Line yard and shops then WCL in 1993 then CNR in 2003. Next are 3 older H-class with 730 at Escanaba/Gladstone MI., then 735 at Thief River Falls MN., then 736 in Appleton, WI in Telulah Park next to Newberry St. and the former CNW industrial track now used by CNR. I worked here in GB at the NRRM as employee and official Tour Guide from 1984 to 1989 and met thousands from around the world like London, Paris, Berlin, Tokyo. And many more. Their favourite is Big Boy #4017. I had to know about our 93 pieces of rolling stock. But, unfortunately, some of the different managers did NOT have experience with railroads, nor the fans. Some of them sold engines and cars. Then worse some pieces were scrapped and destroyed: with the Plymouth Center-cab #2001 nicknamed Mighty Mite; and the steam powered crane from Appleton. All together, we were almost at 100 pieces, a potential milestone. But now we have 37 pieces missing, leaving only 56 pieces left. How disappointing! Next year is its 65th Anniversary. But first we need to make some big changes. Please help us !!!!!

How absurd it would have been for the city of Eau Claire to take that engine from an organization that was actually using it, and let it sit. Glad it stayed in Duluth.
@kenphillips7730 Жыл бұрын
The engine was in working order when Duluth got and was running more excursions than it has in the last 10 years, there is a full length DVD of this. It was put into storage when Union Pacific bought CNW and bulldozed the roundhouse and spare parts with one month's notice. CNW help with the restoration and track usage , UP not so much. If do your research you'll find the UP did this to allot of organizations when bought a new railroad. They could have made this video about 2719 history not brag how they acquired her. This is equivalent to someone having to sell there dad's car with all the memories to a used car dealer because there landlord said they couldn't keep it then having that dealer brag about how they got in the ad too sell it. Make no mistake there no better they just have more parking.

This was restored in the 90's such a shame to see it slowly return to the condition they saved it from with all this rust and grime, I'm sure the men who restored it are disappointed. It had fresh paint and became fully operational, now it appears to sit idle in a showroom without proper maintenance.
@sailorswifty8363 жыл бұрын
I remember in the mid 90's for a short time there was a Steam train ride that ran from Duluth to Two Harbors. I remember because we saw the train off and we stood on the bridge at leaf Ericson park. from there we would drive to a crossing, watch the train go by, get back into the car and then go to the next crossing. we repeated this for a while and then waited for it to arrive in two harbours. I'd love to not only do that again some day, but I'd also love to do the Steam train ride someday too. even before that, wee little kid me, loved going to duluth to visit the puffer bellies .

Really makes you wonder what in the heck they were thinking. Were they going to run it? Sell it again for a more realistic amount of money? Clearly there was a lack of foresight from the other party when they decided they wanted to buy it back...
@douglasskaalrud68652 жыл бұрын
So many people wanting to see these locomotives run but it's always "they" should get it running, please. It requires money and a lot of it so if you're serious in your desire to see something run then let's see a plan for finding a way to pay for it.

Congratulations on making this video about the very shady acquisition of this locomotive. It's been 10 years since it last ran and after visiting it outside your museum in the summer of 2022 it looks no better than if Eau Claire were caring for her. A lot of man hours were put in by the people of Eau Claire to restore her to the condition you got her. I saw her run her last weekend in Duluth and it was a sad sight. The museum didn't own her outright so it was clear she was receiving just enough maintenance to keep her running but not beautiful. So don't be fooled by this used car dealer in a suit, after 10 years they don't have any more funding for her then anyone else would. The 2719 is no better in Duluth than in Eau Claire, she's just not on home tracks.
