That engineer loves to play a tune on that whistle!

This one is my favorite. It took me a long time to understand that this is the ultimate small locomotive. It's not the longest one I've ever seen, but it is elegant in shape or design. It's very thick and powerful for what it is. It made the Big Boy look a bit thin when they were together in a video. It was very cool to see those two trade steam and to hear both of the whistles. I think Big Boy might have more horsepower: about 6,000. But 332 is a powerhouse for what it is. I estimate it to have 4,500 horsepower.

I am referring to the DM&IR. I thought the railroad was defunct. I never would have imagined them saving a steam locomotive from that railroad. I know all of their diesels were either sold to another railroad or scrapped.

lonewolf railfan all the locomotives in the museum are in running condition they just choose not to use them the Yellowstone locomotive is just to heavy for the bridges on the current route so they use smaller and lighter locomotives like the 332

I am sad to say I do not know off hand but I’m sure the 332 might not run the first half 2020 season the locomotive has a lot of problems. If you have ever been to Duluth when it is in operation sitting in the station idle you see the massive amounts of steam leaks on the locomotive that is not normal yes it is normal for steam to leak out of a steam locomotive but that much is not normal. I hope you understand Logan Kocher of the Duluth railroad museum

Thanks for the comment! I'm right there with you, but it only has some many hours it can run before it needs another FRA inspection. I bet the museum is watching that closely.

Very nice job of filming. 😊I’m very familiar with that area. Looks like a beautiful day for a train trip. When you were pacing, what, approximately, was the average speed? It’s not very often, the North Shore Scenic Railroad uses a steam engine, only a couple of months in the summer and then only on the weekends. Thank you for posting.
@SD4575005 жыл бұрын
I appreciate your kind words, and feedback on this video. This was my first encounter with the 332, it's a neat locomotive! When I was pacing, I believe it was about 25mph. When I was on freight trains on this track, the max allowed freight speed was 25. Passenger trains could do 30.
