X-ray advice is exactly what an Indian doctor gave my mum. I came out of the womb with my left side; temple to toes somewhat sqished. She told my mum that I was too young for that kind of exposure and that I'd outgrow it, which I did.

One x-ray will not harm anyone it's overexposure that can cause harm. What if it's an emergency and they really need to do it, won't it get done?

@@kaysmellsgoodthe point was, in this case it wasn’t an emergency and therefore the xray did not need to be done. I.e the risk of exposure to radiation via xray outweighed the benefit of doing the xray.

Keep that doctor! Most things for kids is a waiting it out game unless there’s an immediate risk. Sometimes we feel if we don’t use the best tech we are not being taking care of. Me when I hear scan, xray, etc I ask why 😄. Also parents don’t know they can decline all this or find another doctor especially in the US, they use tech anyhow. Me I fire you immediately and move to next. I travel an hour for a holistic dentist for my kids.

Kaiiii I'm 3 weeks behind I need to catch up. Firstly @Adaeze you just started conversation "let me tell you about my dentist visit" without giving us a minute to take a breathe at how beautiful you look here wow 😍 Secondly, I think in Africa they do a lot of unnecessary things like xrays especially for people that they believe can pay sharp sharp so it doesn't surprise me that they didn't see anything wrong with xray such a young child. Third, may I suggest you give the kids no added sugar dilute drink as an alternative to fruit juices and also get them in the habit of using straw so that any liquid bypasses the teeth and foes straight down the throat.

I see his point about the X-rays. Unfortunately in the US, they start routine yearly dental exams after the first birthday and x-rays around 3yo. I always wondered why but in my opinion the health system here is so profit oriented that there is a lot of unnecessary service rendered.

You can decline. It’s not a must. If they act funny, fire them. They make more money the more they bill the insurance. Also when searching use the term holistic, or airway dentist. The only thing is they mostly are not in network.

Even if Ava had an issue with the tooth, they wouldn’t intervene now till they get to a certain age when it will become like an issue for the child (emotional) they don’t subject kids to X-rays even adults except in cases they deem it fit and necessary. She doesn’t need X-ray. Naija is all that goes unfortunately. For teeth brushing. It has to be a routine twice brushing. Even if they do it themselves at night without your support, it’s better than not doing at all. 30 minutes before bedtime so they don’t eat any other thing before bed.

In Western countries, there is a patient/provider relationship, but in Nigeria, such does not exist. Providers in Western countries educate their patients. So when one comes from Nigeria and experience such a relationship, it might be shocking and overwhelming. In Nigeria, medical personnel do not engage in best practices, and it saddens me. I love it when your baby daughter said she was scared of flies. This is typical for most children in Western countries. My thirteen years daughter does not go to our backyard to play because of bugs. Bugs terrify her. Your kids are so beautiful, keep up the good work!
