I’ve been searching for a handgun for deeper carry. The Switch-Gun seemed to be a viable weapon for me. Despite months of deciding to spend the exorbitant price for this .22 magnum pistol, I finally took the plunge and purchased the Switch-Gun. Pros: Very compact and extremely light. Easily hidden until you need it. The .22 mag round is very deadly if you need it in a life or death situation. It’s a fun weapon to shoot! Despite not having sights, simply pointing the weapon was accurate for me. My first round was wide left, but after that, all my rounds were pretty much center mass. This little pistol packs a punch. Cons: To deploy the Switch-Pistol, the release button must be pushed down. This goes against the natural inclination or “muscle memory” to push the switch up to open the gun like one would a switchblade knife. In a stressful situation this could be deadly. In an effort to get familiar with the weapon, I practiced opening, cocking, decocking, and closing the weapon numerous times. Less than 24 hours of having this gun, it would no longer cock. I sent it back for “repairs”. I believe the cylinder was stripped due to cocking or decocking because the pistol had a “new” cylinder when returned from repair a week or so later. After firing it at the range, I continued to cock and decock the weapon. And sometimes the cylinder “hesitates” a little to turn. Keeping my eye on that. As I continued to practice (no dry firing), opening and closing the weapon, I had yet another mechanical issue. The “screw” connecting the polymer grip to the steel pistol, began to become loose. I constantly had to retighten the screw to keep it from coming out. Loctite may fixed the issue. In life or death situation a product needs to function. As a police officer, carrying the Switch-Gun as an off duty backup to my “primary backup”, would not have gone well for me if these function issues occurred in the field. For the almost $500.00 paid for the my Switch-Gun, it’s way overpriced for a poorly made (poor quality and durability) weapon. My hope is that Standard Manufacturing will make modifications to this extraordinary concept by making the Switch-Gun a viable defense weapon. For now, I am not totally confident with this weapon. Until I do, it’s just an expensive paperweight. For that, I give Three stars Michael Yates

I'm on the fence about .22lr vs .22 mag from anything such short barrel. tight fit between drum and barrel with 1/2" more length, the .22lr could be just about same as a mag, I'd think anyway. they're both small, cross cut .22lr hollow points are pretty wicked close range. mag from longer barrel is a different story.

Pretty cool mini pistol, I got a question regarding the hammer though: -Can the hammer be cocked while it is folded or is there a security measure against that -Can it be folded while the hammer is cocked Both would regard if it can be carried "hot" or the possibility of the hammer getting caught while taking it out of your pocket.

Very good review. I love my tiny weird firepower, and have several NAA Mini Revolvers, an array of .25s, vintage and antique small frame .22 and .32 revolvers, and derringers. I'm particularly fond of the High Standard Derringer in .22 Magnum and the .32 caliber S&W New Departure 2" Bicycle Model. A truly small and slender top break revolver. This is exactly the sort of thing I like. Unfortunately .22 Magnum really suffers in very short revolver barrels, often gaining only a little on the .22 LR. A conversion cylinder for this would be just the thing. What I'd really like to see is a gun of this type in .32 ACP. And it's already been done. A resurrection of the very rare Braverman underbarrel .32 folding grip revolver would be excellent as far as I'm concerned. I'd have two! 😀 This company seems like just the outfit to do it. Scaling this design up to .32 ACP or possibly the new .30 Super Carry cartridge would also be perfect.

Another channel can help ladies on how to choose and carry. It's called : She Equips Herself. Ideally, you don't kill your assailant, because you'll probably spend much longer in court (or prison) if you do. Shoot at his centre mass until he stops attacking and is not holding any gun anymore. Good review on what looks like a well made firearm. However if I was to carry a rimfire single action I would prefer the Pug since it is lighter and smaller, has 22LR cylinders available (I'll presume that is not available on the Switch Gun since you didn't mention it). And of course the lower price. That said, IMO both firearms cannot match up to a 6+1 shot Ruger LCP 380 with much faster reloads, deployment and centerfire reliability for about the same price.

Hey Sootch, Your sterling review of the Switch Gun was so good that I had to run out and buy one. I actually communicated this to Standard Manufacturing when I contacted them regarding the slight bit of play in the gun when it's in the locked open position. They responded promptly and stated, "Yes, it'll have a little bit of play. That's so if there's any debris in there it'll open still. Shouldn't be that much however." This is a 21st century interpretation of the late 19th century, French "Apache" multi-purpose self-defense pocket firearm. The French-made Apache consisted of a six-shot revolver cylinder with no barrel. The handle was steel knuckles and could be folded up. A small, folding, stabbing knife attached to the top of the firing cylinder. The whole Rube Goldberg contraption could be folded up into a portable, pocket bundle. It is not known how popular or how many were manufactured. But the Apache is a novel collector's item today.

@@chriss4311 the real benefit to this is the spring loaded deployment. I know NAA has a grip that folds over the trigger similar to this, but so far as I know, there's not a spring loaded variant. That's really going to help with presentation. If you could deploy it without having to change your grip, this would be almost perfect. The only improvement at that point would be a more potent cartridge, and with that short of a barrel, I don't know if you could really do much for that. I _guess_ .327 Fed mag would give you a larger, heavier projectile, but unless you're getting the same velocity as .22 mag, it really isn't an improvement.

I really like this gun. And for the conceal ability and easy deployment, that’s a great price. I’ve been wanting an ideal conceal for a while, but the price point is just too high for what it is. This is price point is more more attractive, and you still get 5 shots. If you’re skilled with a revolver, the cock and pull is no big deal at all. I don’t like carrying heavy handguns on my person. I keep 3 in my vehicle. Something like this would at least allow you to get back to your truck gun, or handgun of choice in your car. Realistically, this is a robbery/physical attack type of weapon that’s meant to be tucked under someone’s chin, or placed right up against the chest. The “get off me-gun” was a perfect phrase.
