Completely agree about how we’ve got to a place where colour-coding systems now determine people’s actions, reinforcing the disconnection between felt/observed bodily experience versus what we are told is supposedly happening by ‘the authorities’. I had all these thoughts around this latest storm which where I was in England was okay a bit windy but not something I’ve not experienced here before. Couldn’t help but think ‘oh dear’ about schools and other venues closing in preparation of the storm. Don’t think this kind of thing would have happened pre-2020! I haven’t looked at the weather forecast or a weather app for months and prefer to take a read of what the weather is doing with my own senses and body. Love you Terri, thanks for the birch balm recipe - I’m going to make that for my husband and son’s eczema! xx

...and to your point as regards the dumbing down of society; folks just seem to loathe staying home, or providing for themselves these days. Almost a cult of nanny worship. There seems to be a weakness of faith in a higher power, (any kind of higher power) so people turn to governments. I was raised in the pacific northwest, where the native cultures lived next to us, and as a jest, these government "powers" were called "The Great Wokondahs", in deference to their utter unnecessary interference in the lives of those of us who lived close to the natural world. I lived 50 miles from Mt St Helens when it blew in 1980. Trust me, we didn't need municipal guidance to tell us not to go up there before it blew. Sheesh. Great video as usual!! Stay warm and dry!! (We started our seed greenhouse yesterday! Strawberries, chamomile, thyme, storage cabbage, and sweet peas! Lots more in the next wave next month. Also does the varietyof birch matter? We have a Dakota Birch we just planted 2 years ago...) Hugs!

Ah, Terri. I always learn a great deal from your videos. Your knowledge and insight are very inspiring for this old mind. I’ve always been a lover of salves, soaps and such.. so this was a quite enjoyable video to watch. Black Spruce totally lifts me… it renews and gives me grounding again. Your comments on the “Nanny” state is spot on. It’s even worse here in the states. The saddest thing of all is that sooo many people are settling for this era of being told what to do like a child. Lord knows, if my parents and grandparents were alive today, they’d be quite shocked at how lax we’ve become. What ever happened to being an adult and making up your own mind? I pray the world will wake up. Many thanks and blessings your way, Terri! Please keep smiling and sharing your strong positive outlook! It’s so needed in this world we live in today. Oxo

Thank you Terri and Lol, for your beautiful and beneficial work for humanity and the earth! I agree Terri, so many people are so 'out of touch' with their soul and spirit and sadly Mother Earth / Father Sky. I am so happy to be in nature daily to sense and predict weather, tell time by the sun, hear the many messages from the animals and birds, and for me the deep love and knowledge of the plant and mineral kingdoms. I agree with your nanny-state assessment of unnecessary weather warnings. People need to look outside and stand in the wind a bit. There ARE times and places for warnings: approaching blizzards, ice storms, sudden temperature drops and I am glad for that in order to plan my day and take care of animals. But overall, telling somebody to be careful because it's going to be windy and raining...really? Thanks for a lovely tutorial on how to make salves. It looks simple for a beginner like me!

Thank you Terri for another great, educational, helpful video, as always.❤️. Storm or no storm, your lovely place, garden, kitchen, your beautiful dogs, your warming voice, your caring, passionate personality just give us warmth. As for the storm “traffic lights”, you are so right. It is ridiculous indeed. It is a very lazy society. People rely on someone else to tell them how, what to think, what to do. Common sense has disappeared. I think common sense should be on the school curriculum. It should be prescribed by medical healthcare, as it is a vital part of our lives. We need to grow up! Anyway, thank you Terri!❤️

Hi Terri. I love what you said about the dumbing down of society. It is definitely happening. We got hit pretty bad with the storm here in our part of West Clare but it didn't stop my housemate and I from being outside, mixing concrete for a base for my IBS tanks which I'm going to use to collect rainwater for my veg garden. Sure we had to shout at one another because of the wind and we got soaked through but we were perfectly safe. One of the local ladies even went out for her daily walk. She is not fazed by a storm either. One just has to use common sense, no need for colour coded warnings.

Thank you Terri, We are supposed to get 6 to 9 inches of snow tonight and tomorrow, sounds like a perfect project! I agree about the nanny state, I like just getting a heads up, I'll take it from there on, if I stay in or go out. The old saying goes, "there are only bad clothing choices, not bad weather". Have food on hand gives you that choice to hunker down and ride it out instead "have to" go out. In my area, you see people wearing shorts, and no jacket in the winter (sub zero temps), clearly they have a lot of trust in technology not failing. Me not so much.

We know that saying very well. I agree with you - people are far too reliant.

I'm swooning over the emerald color of that birch oil! I started studying herbalism a couple of years ago and had only heard of using birch bark, I didn't know that the leaves could be used medicinally as well. That must be where the gorgeous green comes from. Thank you for sharing about the leaves!

It is a lovely colour - partly the Birch but also it is the EV olive oil. Hope you get to make some xx

Thank you once again for your fantastic, practical wisdom and recipes. I'll be doing so much more harvesting this year so that I can make these healthy products for myself and those around me. Blessings to you and your whole family, chickens, dogs and cats included!

Lovely to get on with some indoor creative jobs during the storm. I've never used birch. Thankyou for the information on that. I'll be giving it a go How I agree with you about the colour coded warnings. We had a red warning here in Cornwall, but you only had to look out of the window and use your common sense to know it wasn't a gardening day! We're not being trusted to think for ourselves anymore, which is very sad

What a delightful way to spend a stormy day. I bet your kitchen smelt wonderful!! Also, thanks for the birch recipe - that's one I've not used but surely will now.

Thank you Terri for another brilliant and interesting video . I agree with what you mentioned about being told what we should do during storms . A lot of it is common sense . Thank you again . Keep safe xxx
