Yet again invaluable info, I just wish I could find the motivation to actually calculate how much of my personal household bills I could claim for haha

Hahaha honestly, I’m the same! I’m too lazy to claim bills as expenses even though I know that I should

Would be good to know if you have receipts for equipment in the last few years ... Then can you claim those as business expenses as you become a registered business or sole trader retrospectively? ... Now you're using those pieces of equipment for work . How do those pieces of equipment you likely purchased with personally invested money become assets of the business ...
@SophiaCarey2 жыл бұрын
Definitely an interesting question! I’d recommend reaching out to an accountant or service like OSOME to double check on that front. I haven’t heard of being able to claim retrospectively but I might be wrong.

@@SophiaCarey I will do that ... I've purchased 35mm then gone into buy and shoot medium format cameras and started to do portrait work ... But I've realised at this stage I really am a business all beit very small and that I might be better off setting up as such even part time . Great content anyway . Many thanks 👌🏾

I'm a little bit confused on the travel part. You said it can be claimed as an expense but on the gov site it says you cannot claim travel between home and work?
@SophiaCarey2 жыл бұрын
Hey! This is a little bit confusing but, as I understand it, you cannot claim travel expenses between home and a permanent workplace. However, on the contrary, you can claim travel between home and temporary workplaces

In case of product/food photography is buying props tax deductible?
@SophiaCarey9 ай бұрын
I would check with an accountant to make sure, but from my understanding, as long as the props are exclusively being used as props then yes.

I had a look on the hrmc documentation but I couldn't see anything about say you were doing a day-long shoot if you can claim food/drink on that day as an expense?
@SophiaCarey3 жыл бұрын
I think that the general rule is that you can claim food and drink (but not alcohol) on work related trips overnight or that are outside of your usual patterns of work. I would double check with an accounting professional if you’re worried about that though!

Can't wait to claim for my photography underpants, they've got a cushion in the arse for when I'm sat on the floor for 50% of every shoot 😂
