Harry jumping into the water to retrieve his hook seems a little silly until you realize; The sea three are the only ones whose parents we haven't seen, and it's been set up that Ursula doesn't care about Uma, that their crew is the closest they get to family. That hook is very possibly the only thing Harry has to remember his father by, if not also a symbol of what he has to live up to. Or y'know, I'm overanalyzing. The reason Ben’s speech in the water worked for Uma is because Uma isn’t technically a villain. She’s only more an antagonist because as we know Uma only wanted the best for the kids on the Isle. She wanted everyone else to have a chance to get off if they wanted too but when her ex-childhood friend and bully had the chance to go and no one else did it ruffled her feathers. That would mess anyone up. The reason Uma is a fan favorite is because she’s the only one who actually cared about the kids on the Isle other than Evie. Uma was never actually the villain.

So, there's good magic and evil magic. Seeing as Mal's spellbook is actually Maleficent's, one can assume that most of the spells in it are evil spells. So, it's perfectly valid for everyone to ask Mal to donate the book to the museum, as having it nearby may tempt her to turn evil again. As we can see during their date, Mal tries to wipe Ben's memories when she realizes she messed up. Objectively a horrible thing to do and something Mal wouldn't do if she didn't have the spellbook nearby to tempt her.

“Ben pressuring her to change herself” When? Ben never pressured mal to change herself. Mal is the one who decided that she needed to change her hair, and be perfect all the time, to fit in. The entire time, (since movie 1), Ben made it clear he loved her for her, that she didn’t have to change herself. Also the whole issue with using magic, it’s just unnecessary. She was using magic as a short cut because, she automatically assumed that she couldn’t do anything without it. How did she know she couldn’t do it, if she never tried to? Adding that people using magic, has historically never done any actual good, it just caused problems. Most of the time, the use of magic resulted in people getting cursed, killed, etc. Exhibit A, Mal quite literally tried to spell Ben into forgetting. The issue with using magic, is that people blur the line between making things easier, and taking advantage of the power. Mal herself went from using the magic to make things easier for herself, to trying to use it to manipulate Ben. The fact she saw no issue with that, is very concerning. It actually annoyed me how, Ben was put as the bad guy in the situation, when Mal was making the mess. Mal ran away the first chance she got. She left him, (knowing she intended to never see him again), without any explanation. How do people defend this? I get that it was hard being a princess, especially the future queen. But, it was hard for Ben too, (being king), but he still kept trying, he didn’t run, he didn’t overcompensate, or try to act like, or pretend he was perfect. Mal went overboard, idk why Ben is being made to be the bad guy here.

I think one of the reasons why I think this is the best of the franchise is cause I feel like the Villain kids are somewhat more mature. At least Evie I feel definitely is. She's more kind hearted and less ditsy and I love her older sister figure role to Dizzy. Also Space Between remains my favorite song of the Descendants franchise along with Evil Like Me. He was upset that she had a) lied to him and that b) she was relying on magic to be something she wasn't. Using magic to change her hair, make a picnic, study for school - these things aren't morally wrong, but they're not who she really is. The whole point of Mal giving up the spellbook is her letting go of the last of her mother's influence on her and allowing herself to be who she is, even if that means falling short of everyone's expectations of her as the perfect "lady of the court". Semi spoilers/theory for the future movies to answer some of your questions: Small detail - Yes one of these characters has a sibling that comes up later on, Chad has a younger sister named Chloe. Magic lore for Auradon- Magic being against the rules isn’t (thus far) clearly stated WHY at the current time of Auradon, but the implications make it seem that it’s bc using magic is what insights the villains to cause chaos. Specifically it was ruled by King Beast who has a personal grudge since he himself was cursed most his life because of magic spells. Spoilers/Theory back to the magic thing - The use of magic and why it is banned I think will be fleshed out in the current Descendants trilogy of 4 (The Rise of Red) and upcoming 5 and 6 because one of the main characters specifically uses magic for fun as they are young and further to cause chaos as an adult in Auradon.

My take on why the Villain kids don't want to use magic is cause it's their parent's dark magic. It's kinda like how in Once Upon A Time, Regina tried to give up using dark magic for Henry and here, Evie wants to stop using her mother's magic mirror cause it's from her evil mother and Mal needs to stop using her mother's dark magic so they can be more accepted by the world and less feared. I also feel like on a more unfair or reasonable side depending on how you look at it, they try to avoid magic all together to keep from relying on it so much which is why Fairy Godmother doesn't use her wand all that often.

The point of a hairsalon whem they can use spells to change their hair is they cant. No magic in the isle so they need an actual salon. As for the use of magic spell, on the 1st film fairygod mother told them that magic in the world still exists but is now retired. Im guessing so its fair for everyone, magic power or powerless. But mostly cuz theu cant afford all that cgi lol

Descendants 3 is the most interesting descendants movie bc it’s probably the one with the most divisive opinions. Some consider their favorite others consider it their least favorite. It used to be my fav now it’s my least fav of og trilogy. I still think it’s good though. Rise of red is ok. I miss og cast. Descendants 1 is good, I love the intro to all the characters
