I rewatched first 3 movies and I would say my ranking still holds up. 2nd is really really good. 9/10 like I’m sorry but the story is good and songs are all amazing. 1st one is good 7/10 story mostly carries this one. Songs are decent but not my fav I like rotten to the core and if only and story is a little boring still good. Descendants 3 is a 6/10, it’s better than I remember. Music isn’t the best but it’s still decent. Queen of mean is the best descendants song and story is fun. The newest one was kinda meh imo. Idk it felt too short and it was definitely weaker than all the previous movies but I will rewatch it and see.

Yay! I too was also bit old for the target demographic of these films when they were released. I got pleasantly surprised by them during pandemic lockdown. I'm glad you got to see them too. imo, the songs in the 2nd & 3 films are more engaging/memorable. I've only seen this first film once so many years ago. I have a love/hate thing with this franchise, because it's ripping off Mattel's Ever After High. How Mal and Ben look so much like EAH's Raven Queen and Dexter Charming is too much of a coincidence. I do wish this franchise leaned more towards the non-fairytale characters (like Carlos and Cruella) to not have me feel this way. Though, some of the songs do go off.

Anybody else feel like this was an attempt to capitalize on "Once upon a Time...", which was still a thing but dipping in popularity? While also trying to add sex-appeal to new and existing Disney IP's? Just me? I mean YOUR reactions to the main cast seem to sum it up perfectly; seemingly sincere emotional connections, chemistry and sex appeal, wrapped up in really attractive teens (most of whom were actually teens or younger adults, who knew?) who you could grow-up with and see mature? This is like Nora Roberts for 17-year-olds, complete with unexpected female gaze, "accidentally" getting "all wet" at the enchanted lake, massive public displays of affection, fashion and makeover elements, love triangles, messy break-ups, breaking parental expectations of how or who we love, sexual tension and 'rivals to lovers' scenarios. I'm actually a little surprised you weren't watching this while sipping a generous glass of red wine, given all the Harlequin romance novel elements in this flick. 😅 The songs were OK and I wish Najimy had more screen time, but it is fun to watch Chenoweth chew the scenery like Eartha Kitt. Everyone, even my little sister, returns to this film looking to experience all the "will they won't they" stuff over and over again. I was genuinely shocked that the guy who directed Hocus Pocus also directed this...but then I remember the musical number from that film, and all the dance stuff from High School Musical and Newsies and suddenly, it fits. Love to see how you react to the sequels, especially their choices for who plays the Villain parents (a lot of missed opportunities and plot holes, but we'll get there when we get there I guess). This was a great reaction! The first film was a great introduction to the Descendants universe. Please continue with the rest of the trilogy! The overall message is that anyone has the capability to do good or do evil. So you shouldn’t judge others until you get to know them. There is a book series that take place in between the films as well as an animated series. In the prequel book, “The Isle of the Lost”, we learn more about our main VKs (Villain Kids) and AKs (Auradon Kids). As for the ending, keep in mind that they just chose to be good, and they’re still gonna have to face other obstacles like temptations or fitting in. Also they’re not the only VKs who want to get off the island. The real irony is that most of the Auradon parents and kids are hypocrites like how Beast judges the kids based on their parentages when he got cursed for his own vanity or that Chad thinks his family’s royal status gives him the right to mistreat others when his own mother was given the same treatment and that his father fell in love with her kind heart instead of her appearance. Also, it’s been noticed that like in Disney’s Zombies, which I highly recommend that trilogy as well, Mal and Ben had just met practically, and they would need some time before they share true love’s kiss. #RIPCameronBoyce 😈👩🏻‍🎤🪄🐲🍎🐍🐶💜💙💛❤️

I suppose it's kind of inevitable that Disney would jump on the whole Monster High bandwagon. In the case of Descendants, it has too much modern stuff in its musical numbers that became dated in the next five seconds (especially the dubstep one Rotten to the Core). I also must point out that the plot was a bit too paint-by-numbers. Oh, and why have Kristin Chenoweth as Maleficent? Honestly, Enchanted was better.
