Sophie Raworth mistakenly announces that Huw Edwards has resigned

Sophie Raworth mistakenly announced on BBC News at Six that her colleague Huw Edwards had resigned, moments after he was named as the star at the centre of an alleged sex scandal.
Raworth was revealing Edwards’s identity as the man accused of paying a teenager for explicit photos when she then said he had also resigned.
Sources subsequently made it clear that Edwards, 61, had not resigned and Raworth was quick to clarify the mistake to viewers shortly afterwards.

Edwards' wife released her announcement 2 mins prior to the 6pm report. Since she knows how the news worked I wondered whether this was a deliberate ploy to give his former colleagues no time to prepare their coverage and response. They certainly appeared to be all over the place at the start of the programme.
