Interesting thing to remember when using the word "professionalism" in regard to Sophie. Before she married she owned her own corporate PR company. This is a woman who moved and worked in corporate circles. Being thoughtful in regard to her physical presentation comes as second nature to a woman who has had to present herself as a company director. No matter what outfit she chooses (and there are some that I really don't like), she is ALWAYS appropriately dressed for the occasion, her clothes are well tailored, well pressed and dignified. Markle could take a lot of lessons from Sophie in how to dress and behave appropriately for the occasion.

I love Sophie. I remember when she got married to Edward, the wedding was beautiful. They had a few rough patches in the beginning. However, when Sophie's mum passed away, HMTQ stepped up, and from that moment on, their relationship became cemented. Sophie was fiercely loyal to both the late Queen and Prince Philip. I really liked it when you highlighted those two patterned dresses next to each other where you could tell one highlighted her waist and one gave her the illusion of a long bust. I have a similar bust and waist, so this was helpful for me to see side by side. It's easy to fall into that long bust trap.

I think Sophie is coming into her own. In the past she seemed to fade into the background and wasn’t mentioned much in fashion comments. But now she’s standing out whether she’s hired a new stylist or has a bit more money to spend on her wardrobe. Perhaps King Charles realizes her worth as a senior royal and is more generous with his purse strings. Or perhaps Edward has hit King Charles up for a larger allowance for Sophie’s clothing collection. If so, I hope they start spending money on Lady Louise’s clothes also. She can’t live in horsey outfits or barn clothes. These men must realize people aren’t as interested in their causes as they are in their outfits. Men can wear ho him clothes, but women must stand out and be noticed.

A couple of things to remember when thinking about Sophie. When she first joined the royal family, she was compared a lot to Diana because she had a similar hairstyle to what Diana had worn. A lot of those comparisons were pretty harsh towards her. Also, because Edward was QE2's youngest, they didn't have a huge royal role early in their marriage. I think they both worked private sector jobs at some point. Because many of the working royals are getting up in years, and because of Andrew's scandals and then Megxit, Edward and Sophie have had to take a much more active role in the last few years. I think that because of those early Diana comparisons, she dressed to hide a bit until recently.

Small detail - As soon as they were awarded Edinburgh, they would have had to play a more active role anyway, regardless of what else was happening with other Royals. It's up there with the highest ranks as it's attached to the monarch having originally been given to the English heir apparent following the Union in the 1700's (he prematurely dies). His son (George III) kept the title with himself when he eventually ascends after his grandfather. Sorry! A history ramble as well. Just that many don't get the significance of things.

Thanks for these insights. I admire Sophie’s dedicated work which earned her the Queen’s trust. Sophie’s style has always been just a tick off to my eye. It even occurred to me that her style may not be that important to her except that care is always given to wearing outfits appropriate to each event. This is a great video format and it would be fun to see you feature the style of Lady Gabriella Windsor and Princess Anne. Catherine, Princess of Wales is wonderful to follow but variety is great fun too. I love that you featured Sophie, one of my favourite royals. I think my favourite outfit she has worn is her ensemble at the Cambridges’ wedding in 2011. She looked fantastic and it’s even more amazing to see her in video footage when you realize that she had a few broken and bruised ribs that day, having had an accident (horse riding?). My least favourite is probably the blue jumpsuit she wore to Ascot a few years ago.

Oh my, I just googled what the Duchess wore to the Cambridges' wedding, and you are right, she looked fantastic! She also looked gorgeous at Mike and Zara Tindell's wedding. Neutral tones really make her skin glow. I, too, would love to see a fashion review of Lady Gabriella Windsor! She's so beautiful and elegant (I see her grandmother, Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent, in her), and her fashion choices are just outstanding!

I think Sophie has a few problem areas as well as having to dress for her age. She's sort of hit and miss with her wardrobe. Lately, though she has done better and maybe has a better stylist. She's such a lovely woman but she probably didn't have the budget for high end fashion back then. I adore that green outfit! She has great legs so those shorter dresses are flattering for her.

Hey Beebs! If you go back and look at Sophie when she first joined the Royal Family, she had a strong resemblance to Princess Diana, it was said that Prince Edward had such a crush on Diana, he found a "look-alike". I don't believe any of that nonsense. But, there were pictures when I did a double take. I love Sophie, she's right under Catherine as one of the best dressed for the event that she's attending. She realizes that she's working when she's out at an event and dresses appropriately. Gosh, it's hard to pick which outfit was my favorite but I have three because I think they're representing different types of events. The pink one-shoulder is gorgeous for a formal event. The blue outfit she wore to Eugenia's wedding. And, the floral print was on the left and it was longer than the one on the right. It was super flattering and made her torso look longer and her waist smaller. It would be a nice dress to wear to an event that's held outside, heck, it's appropriate for several different events depending upon her accessories.

I'm not much for fashion to be honest. I'm a very short not so skinny lady so it's just challenging lol. I can appreciate how in some of those looks my first thought was "Dang! I didn't she had that shape under there!" The pink single shoulder one was pretty and as much as I didn't love the pattern on one of the dresses, I could see how the cut did flatter her shape. I think Sophie hit menopause & started to gain weight but also started running (for charity) as a way to combat this. Since the working royal women purchase and OWN their clothing, they should consider modifying the details on the outfits to best suit their body type. It would take just a couple of hours for me to modify the sleeves and neckline or skirt volume on any of these outfits to fit your suggestions. I think we could all be more proactive in making slight modifications to current off the shelf purchases to better align with our personal body types. Learning to sew is actually quite easy.

That’s a great point about the royal women having modifying their clothes modified. I’ve often wondered why it isn’t done more and have guessed that it might have something to do with being seen to change someone’s creation. Maybe there’s a concern that it could be perceived as a critique. They often buy garments that are marketed to anyone so it’s easy to trace what has been modified. Honestly, it must be tricky buying from retail outlets - even though they’re designer brands. I don’t think Princess Anne has done that and it has probably been a good thing. Gone are the days when royal women had dressmakers on staff (other than Angela Kelly for QEII). Bit of a bunny trail here…sorry! Lol

Sophie the “secret weapon” of the BRF has upped her fashion game in the last year. Since she’s been doing more engagements, her fashions and hair are much better! At least her fashion taste is MUCH better than our “favorite” fashion fail Markle! She looks better in fitted looks as she has the shape for it! At least she wears appropriate undergarments! I agree with you assessment of Sophie’s figure and I have a similar shape. As I’ve aged my bust size has increased and I will never wear anything that is fitted just under the bust line which Sophie sometimes does. It’s not a very flattering look and can look quite unbalanced on a mature figure. Your assessment of Sophie and the outfits which suited her best are spot on.

As an American, I've had only the mildest of interest in the BRF and significant events therein. That is, (unfortunately) UNTIL the Debacle of the Unremarkable Markle...she & her unfortunate Prince live rent-free in my head. I was completely unaware of Sophie, but have come to respect her dedication & loyalty to/on behalf of her family & country. Much like Catherine, Princess of Wales, Sophie is the epitome of true beauty, class, elegance, & nobility. Sophie's style evolution has been remarkable since she married into the BRF. I think my major complaint with her style is that she does not hem dresses that are midi length to that length. Her hemlines are often too long--and I feel certain she can get the tailoring done but just does not.

I love this new 'style' of video! It gives an overall sense of style progression and now that Sophie is doing more it will be interesting to see her style evolution which, imo, has become more polished. I love that white lacy dress with the handkerchief sleeves - agree that it may be better if fitted but I love the whimsical nature of it. And imagine how fun it would be when she moves her arms. Lovely!

Sophie beauty is her personality and loyalty. Sophie dress sense is getting better now as she is far more comfortable in her role as a working royal and she doesn't spend a lot of time worrying about fashion and more about work. I think she wears what she feels comfortable with however she wears clothes suitable for the occasion. Sophie is more down to earth. I love Sophie's hair it is beautiful with her different up-do's.

What I enjoy about Sophie is that I never know what she's going to pull out of her closet! Although she's a working royal, she seems to allow her enjoyment of color, pattern, and mixing up her fashion just a little bit here and there as a way to satisfy her fun and unpretentious personality, but she knows when it's time to be adult and serious in her appearance, too. I will "agree to disagree" with you on one point and that is dress/skirt length. I don't like the ones that are inches off her ankles. I would prefer yet another inch... inch and a half higher. So I suppose no lower than midi and not ballerina length. However, although it appears to be that ballerina length that I don't care for, that dress she wore to Princess Eugenie's wedding was per-fec-tion!

I mostly like what the Duchess of Edinburgh wears. She would find it easier to style herself if she just lost some weight, like most of us need to. I started walking daily about ten years ago to clear a stubborn and painful chest infection (atypical pneumonia), it worked. But, I was amazed that the pounds just kept falling off me, so I kept it up. Previously, I ate only 800 Kcal. “(Calories)” for 23 years just to maintain my size XL, without losing a pound, I had long given up. If such severe calorie restriction didn’t work, what could? The simple answer is walking, nearly everyone can do it. There is a woman in my neighborhood who was about 450 lbs. and is now skinny, from her daily walking. I think that eliminating sugar and most simple carbs helped, too, as my doctor ordered, my blood sugar was too high. Now I’m a much healthier size Small. Don’t give up, daily aerobic exercise can do it! I finally found a BMI chart/calculator online that can account for my tiny frame size, and it shows I have 15 lbs. to lose still (I look a little fatty at the general recommended weight for my height, because of my small bones and muscles). I really shouldn’t be above a size 4-6 US for such a delicate frame, but am an 8 now, by next spring, I’ll be there! I can’t even wear earbuds, my ears are so small, or close my hand around a tool or cooking utensil, it’s tough in a world designed for 6-foot men. I never thought anything could budge that unhealthy torso, visceral fat, but exercise can. Now, my wardrobe needs to catch up! It hurts financially, but I’m replacing many items I love, but in three sizes smaller. Be slimmer, look and feel better, and best of all, live longer. Life is so very precious, every single day we get counts. Another sunrise and sunset to enjoy, at the very least!

I love the prints that Sophie wears. Even though she is 5'5", they don't overwhelm her. I like prints, myself and I am the same height and body shape. I absolutely adored the blue dress that Sophie wore to a garden party this Spring. Catherine, Princess of Wales, also wore a blue dress that day. Beebs, do you remember the occasion ?
