It's not the power of love. Neo wasn't really dead to begin with, his brain just convinced him that he was (you can even see that when he was shot the first time, he didn't even feel it, but when he looked down and saw the blood, he convinced himself that it was real and his brain and body did the rest) but when Trinity kissed him, she sent nerve impulses to the brain which reminded it "Hey! This isn't real! You're not dead! Get up!". You can say that Neo was just realizing and manifesting what the Oracle told him, that he was waiting for his next life, so in a way he had to "die" and be reborn once again in the Matrix to become the one and access the abilities that title entails.

Not quite right, Trinity's prophecy was needed to happen in order for the prophecy about Neo to happen.

People alwasy say how did he not die. Neo did die. He just broke the rules of the matrix and came back to life. The oracle said he would die. So, I don't understand why people think he didn't.

When I first saw the ending, I also though, "LOL, dude, true love's kiss. This happy ending is brought to you by Disney." I t wasn't until a few years later when I paid more attention to the idea that they separate "dream world", as Morpheus called it once, and the real world. Trinity was talking to and touching a sleeping Neo. Almost like she woke him up from a bad dream.

It was a bit of a play on the "true loves kiss" - but from a biological standpoint, it set off chemical rush which sent a signal to his brain which helped him realize he's not actually dead.

The point is not that she loves him, it's that he knows he's the one because she loves him. And he can still hear her, which wouldn't be possible if he was really dead. The whole movie he was "waiting" to be convinced and believe what they're saying he is.
@TheBigHeinousAnus
@TheBigHeinousAnus 8 ай бұрын
@@vanyadolly I think what you and riverharper8166 are saying are both correct. Neo had to die in order to become the one, and he had to believe that he was dead because "the mind makes it real" so when he believed he was dead, his body stopped living. But, since Trinity had fallen in love with him, the prophecy dictated that he was the dead man that the Oracle told Trinity that she would fall in love with, therefore making him the one. And since he's the one, he has the ability to manipulate the rules of the Matrix in ways that no one else can, simply because he believes. Since the mind makes it real, he "believed" himself back to life. That's how I interpret it, anyway.

I've noticed some reactors do have a problem with preconceived notions. In this specific instance - they keep calling Neo "The One". Yet, you keep adding "chosen" in there. Nobody called him the chosen one - just The One. Morpheus explains him as a reincarnation that promised to return: aka The One. Choosing isn't a part of it.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that notices that. It makes me rage every time lol but I try not to complain because I’m aware that I’m slightly overreacting. It’s become a pet peeve of mine for sure though. I do wonder why the “chosen one” term is so present in their minds though.

If you rewatch the Oracle conversation with Neo, you'll see that everything she said made complete sense. "You're not the one", "you're waiting for something" (his better half), "maybe in the next life" (his "rebirth"). Imagine watching this movie in 1999 when people were wondering if the Y2K "bug" could be the end of the world, because many computers/software only used 2 digits for the years, so after 1999... 1900? Crazy times, made even crazier with movies like this one.

In the lore of Matrix, the machines didn't start looking like bugs. They used to use human forms, pretty silly from our point of view, funny looking, like puppets or manikins. Sometimes they really looked like people, terminator style, with synthetic skin. However, when mankind only showed them cruelty and war, when we attacked them no matter how hard they tried to make peace, when we went to the extreme of destroying the sky to kill them... then, they changed. Machines abandoned human shape. It symbolizes their final rejection of humans. You can watch a short version of the story in Animatrix, a compilation of 10 or similar number of stories. Two of them are the second renaissance 1 and 2, and they explained how the war between men and machines started.

The greatest movie of all time, in my opinion. Based largely on Plato the cave.The allegory delves into the philosophical thought of truth, and how those with different experiences or backgrounds may perceive it. The shadows on the wall of the cave are constantly changing, so there is no stability or consistency offered for those who bear witness to them-only a false reality. thank you for video.

Neo in Greek (and many other languages) means New. As well as being an anagram of “One”This quite literally infers his status as the next ONE in the matrix. The name Thomas Anderson is also a play on words, as Thomas is derived from Aramaic languages and means “twin” and Anderson translates as Son of Man. A call-out to his leading dual lives (twin versions of himself) and being a child of humanity who can free his human family.

As others have said, it's not love or magic or anything like that whatsoever. It was software programming. Virtual reality game programming. You were probably right about warning Neo of accepting cookies, there are hints in sequels that Oracle has implanted some code "into" Neo (also: "accepting cookies" oink oink). What I love the most about Oracle is that she never said anything that wasn't truth: she didn't actually told him he is not the one (he said that part), she also predicted his death saying he's waiting for another life. The genius of this script is that almost no one picks it up at first. Part 2 and 3 are pushing all that philosophical trivia forward, which, if you pay attention, is really interesting. Although, I think they overdid the action sequences a bit - but that's just my opinion, most people like these epic fights in sequels, def worth watching.

This is one of those groundbreaking sci-fi action where the hero's journey is told without any exposition. Or rather exposition through action. Of course the story supported the special effects. Of course, Hollywood tried to copy and failed many times because they tried doing the same action with a regular story.

I remember that the matrix was one of the rare movies where they managed to keep the secret until the movie actually started in the cinema. The trailers were just as vague as Morpheus was in the beginning. Such a stunt would not be possible nowadays as some information would leak somewhere and once it's out it would spread at almost light speed. Even when nothing is leaked, right after the premiere tons of reviews would be up for everyone to see. The Wikipedia article would be updated and the secret would be revealed.

It's old. I wasn't even born when this came out. Most of the people I know that are my age haven't seen most of these old movies. Unless their parents are big collectors of movies like my dad. I don't know your age, but let's just say you grew up in the 90s as an example. Have you seen all (or even most) of the popular movies from the 70s? Or the 60s? Most of the stuff I've seen from before I was born was either because my dad showed it to me directly or because I pulled it out of his DVD collection when I was bored. I understand why it seems weird that someone wouldn't know a super popular movie from when you were young. It was a big deal at that time in your life. But for me, I wouldn't have given this movie any attention at all if I hadn't been actively encouraged to watch it. It was before my time. That or because some people just aren't movie fans at some point. I don't know many, but there are a few people I know who just don't care about the latest movies or series. They might watch a movie once every month or two, but mostly spend their time on other things.

I've seen behind the scenes videos where the actors trained really hard but certain moves in wire-fu are just too difficult to look good unless you've been doing it for years, like the stunt team that was brought in to train and work with the actors.

Interesting thoughts on "humans define their reality through misery". True that we need the negatives, otherwise we would never appreciate the positive. There would'nt even be something positive without a negative. But I would'nt say we run away from the "perfect life". We always strive for a better life. Once we get used to the new standard, we want even better. Thus, it's never enough. It's a never-ending chase for something better. That's why so many people are unsatisfied, or even unhappy. We keep comparing our own situation with other's that we perceive to be better..... the human brain is truly a wonderous thing :)

The way I see it Trinity didn't brought him back, he being the one implies he figures dying in the matrix is an illusion for your mind. The Oracle's prediction became true, Neo dies and the same way if you die in a dream and wake up realizing it was just a dream, he realized its just a simulation.
@blackkatt777
@blackkatt777 8 ай бұрын
By kissing him, I think Trinity was forcing his real body to breath. It's the body's natural survival mode. His mind was making him believe he was dead. When she cut off his air by kissing him, the body sent a survival mode signal to the brain to take a breath, which also sent the message that he's not really dead. Once he took that breath, his matrix mind figured it out and his special coding kicked in. He got up and took control. The Oracle knew that Trinity would be hesitant to act on her feelings until the appropriate time. So to most people it just seemed like a corny fairytale moment where he wakes from a kiss, but it was actually logical science. Btw...Neo is an anagram for One, as in The One. You guessed right, at the beginning.

One of the most telling lines in the movie is "You think that is air you're breathing?". Nothing in the matrix is what is seems, our hero's avatars in the matrix appear to be engaging in Kung Fu, but what they are really doing is coding, Super Coding, and they are doing it better and faster than a computer can. That is really the only way one can make any sort of changes to a computer program.

4:43 Room 101 is also a prison chamber in which a prisoner’s worst fear is manifested, in George Orwell's dystopian novel '1984'. The Party, through their various means of investigating and spying on their citizens, is all-knowing (as the main character is reminded of when he’s arrested). They are aware of every citizen’s worst fear and are prepared to use that fear against them.

But also. 101 could reference ones and zeroes. Computer language. Or 101 in http protocol, same as 303 which is a known error in http regarding i believe hyperlinks not leading anywhere. Pair that with the fact neo has to "accept the cookie" from the oracle. A lot of computer / internet references

As a longtime Matrix fan (I first saw it on the 'Big Screen') it's fun to 'ride along' with someone experiencing this all for the first time. The more times you watch it, the more nuance you see. The Wachowskis crafted a brilliant blockbuster that holds up to multiple viewings. I guess that's a definition of a 'Classic". I hope you enjoyed it enough the first time to revisit this world again. It reads differently once you've already gotten the 'big picture'. In my experience, it's been a fun (if different) ride every time. Thanks for diving down the rabbit hole. 😁 BTW - I love your editing style! ♥👍👍

As an old (post-middle aged) guy, this for me had the potential to be Superman for the 21st Century - The sequels were a little convoluted (but I still love them) but I would love to see a Universe of Matrix - I think The Animatrix series proved there are stories to be told within this Universe. The thing I loved most about this movie was the idea of existence and the Descartes idea that life is a dream, something which is unprovable. For me, the entire concept of the Matrix and the Super-Neo are extensions of the Christ and Superman figures and make for a potentially great myth.

I love how all the toxic men have adopted the term “red pill” to mean “opening their eyes to how women are against them” and use it to hate on queers and trans people. But the two people who made the movie, the Wachowskis, are both trans women.

Well, there may have been some things that you may not have picked up on, however. I saw this movie when it first came out, and have watched it many times since, and there are things that you immediately picked up on that I never got, like Neo being an anagram for One! Well done! Anyways, very cool reaction!

*1. Understanding the Logic of the Matrix:* About the resurrection at the end: The matrix-avatar of Neo (the "residual self-image" (RSI)) is a programmed image, like the spoon. Like the spoon this RSI of Neo does not exist. *It is just a bunch of code* - also because of this, machines can't know what tasty wheat tastes like. “Do not try and bend the spoon, that’s impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth… there is no spoon. Then you’ll see that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself.” - Spoon Boy - "Yourself" is the mind, which realizes the meaning of moving, of dying and of being alive. It is him beliving that the body/RSI is getting shot, so that his belief gonna make the RSI "act" dying. Because he realized that "being dead" in the matrix means exactly the same as "bending the spoon" - he realized it is not the spoon that bends - it is not the RSI that is gonna die - but it is he himself putting himself in this believe and made therefore the RSI "act" dying. Like the "Jump-Test" - he doesn't fall from the building - he make himself believe that he falls down. When he realized that it is all himself that drives the narrative, he bcomes the One and decides that his RSI is not dead. That how he managed through trinitys confession of love that he is not dead - "because he is the One and the One cannot be dead". And thats how he finally could fly - because there is no gravity - there is no spoon; it is only he himself. Now you know that Neo didn't died at the End of the movie and resurrected, but he was never dead in the firstplace, but thought that he had died, because he didn't understand, that the matrix-avatar is like the spoon not there. There is no residual self-image. It's only you giving it this meaning. Also this is the reason why the Matrix can't told you who you are because you only reside in the Matrix made RSI. It is not the real self. Like this the Oracle can't told you who you are because you have to believe that you are who decides to be. Something the Matrix cannot tell you and something the Oracle can't force you to believe but only showing you the doors. You have to go through the door you want to go through, by yourself. It is different from choosing the pill; your willingness or unwillingness to do something by heart let you choose the the right pill. If you only choose because you're curious, you will take the red pill, but you will not believe that this is your door. So you will regret this choice. If you just accidentally fall in the rabbit hole you don't wish to explore the "truth" and will take the blue pill to escape this "nightmare" you feel yourself trapped in (Agents chasing you etc. and you just want to live a "normal life"). If your innerst wish was to know and live by the truth, you will choose the red pill and stay in wonderland - because that's what you decide for yourself to be (So the splinter in your mind does't really matter, if you don't pay much attention to it and want to stay oblivious). Eventually the Oracle already knew that Cypher regret his choice and will try to go back. *2. Choice, Identity and Fate:* The Matrix Oracle Scene kzbin.info/www/bejne/e4axYnaiiZ6cb9k The oracle never told Neo that he isn't the One. She told him: Oracle: "Being the One is just like being in love - no one can tell you you're in love, you just know it, through in through. Balls to bone." Neo looks away as if he realises, that he doesn't know that is the One (or in love). Then she stands up and said: "Well, I have better a look at you". The she tricked him in choosing his self-believe/fate: Oracle: "Ok, now I'm supposed to say, < mmmh, that's interesting, but >, then you say ..." Neo: "But what?" Oracle: "But you already know what I am going to tell you." Neo: "I'm not the One." Oracle: "Sorry Kid." She just confirmed what he believed already and did't told him what he should believe. Why? That's why: "[...] no one can tell you you're in love, you just know it, through in through. Balls to bone." Like this, the choice to sacrifice himself for Morpheus - she never told him that he will choose to act like the One, even though he doesn't believe exactly to be the One. It's just that the situation of free choice let him believe that his choice matters, as if he decides about the fate of Morpheus and of himself. But it was the ability to choose that let to his mental awakening and act like the One is supposed to act: "[...] you just know it, through in through. Balls to bone." *3. Secrets:* The oracle could foretell him what is going to happen with Morpheus, because she is a program from the machine-city that depends on the Matrix as part of their power plant. So whatever Cypher told to the Agents, she already knew about when she met Neo. So the plan of the Agents was to capture Morpheus in the building where the Deja-Vu happened, because they had this deal with Cypher to give them the opportunity to capture Morpheus. That was their plan and that's how the Oracle knew that they will capture Morpheus - she also knew that the crew would have to pull the plug - or because now Neo is on the field: Choose to rescue Morpheus. He just had to believe that is gonna work, because (!!!spoiler alert for the second movie!!!) "the One" is a program opposed on Neo, that the Matrix created to fix a bug in the program, that the Machines call the "Integral Anomaly" and in order to handle it they opposed the abilities of the One on Neo. That's also how the Oracle could know that Neo is "The One", because that's how the Matrix wanted to control the "Integral Anomaly" of the Matrix code, by putting it somewhere where it could not easily break out and gave him control over the Matrix, like seeing the Code, stopping bullets with the mind, hijacking an Agent and obliterate them from the inside and flying around like Superman. Because the Oracle is part of the Matrix system, she knew that someone has to become the One at some point - like the other "potentials" who live with the Oracle. And that's why he only had to believe that he is the One, because otherwise he could not realise the power of the "Integral Anomaly" inside him. So the Oracle had to make him believe that his choice matters in order to be able to tap into his greater potential as the One. Also you have to enjoy the little computer jokes. ^^ * The agents literally put a computer bug into Neo. * Neo had to accept the cookies from the oracle to proceed. * Oracle was one of the first major database companies in the 1990s, so it makes only sense to give her character that very name. * Plus they first used the constructor to select attributes they'll carry over to the main program, the matrix. * In computer science, "agent" means "software system capable of making decisions". So calling those guys agents actually has a double-meaning! Thanks for reading.

It was the inevitability of predestined events to come - the prophecy - which made Neo' death impossible, not the corny idea that Trinity' love brought him back. The Oracle "sees" what is to come - divines the prophecy - and she saw that Trinity would love the One and shared this with her. Since the Oracle is never wrong when Neo died, Trinity knew it was impossible because she knew her feelings about him. He got up not because of those feelings or the kiss but simply because he was the One and could not be killed. Trinity kissed him after he died as an expression of her love, nothing more.

24:03 it's been argued that the Matrix is in fact _not_ a lie; the people, places, and events within it are very much real. They may be _digital_ , sure, but that doesnt invalidate that they matter to the humans within it. What _is_ a lie, is the fact that it _is_ digital, and run by machines.

our society is based on social lie like that we need masters, kings, government and infinite sets of rules to govern each person through its life. For me the matrix is very real today. No need of bunch of machine to makes us slaves. We already are.

This movie is about movie is about many things, including gnosticism and buddhism and fate and AI. One of the less obvious things it's about is a trans allegory, which is more obvious once you know about the Wachowski sisters. Among the many parts of that, notice how Agent Smith keeps deadnaming Neo. Other cool things that are less obvious are the ways falling water gets used to represent matrix code.

The secret to looking young is keeping your skin hydrated. You don't have use expensive lotions ether. Just make your face damp and apply plan old Vaseline. Do that every day all your life and you will look 20 when your 50. That's what I did and I'm 40 but people mistake me for late 20's and early 30's all the time. I didn't start keeping my face hydrated till I was 32 and I wish I had started much sooner.

Generally speaking, Fate feels like injustice when it swings against us, but it feels like a break which we are due when it falls in our favor. Central to the Human Experience are two main social concepts: injustice sensitivity -- the unwillingness to be treated unfairly or unequally to others, and greed -- competition for resources and power; and the spiraling, snowballing nature of both injustice trauma and "gold fever." It's similarly coded in all primate genes, from proto-simians like lemurs, to monkeys, to apes, to great apes, to hominids -- all of us, universally. We need what we want and feel hurt when we get anything less.

I was blown away by THE MATRIX when I first saw it back in the '90s. And I was blown away again just now in your reaction. It was maybe the most intelligent reaction I've yet seen. And I have seen a lot of them. So you have won my subscription. And I am looking forward to seeing more content. As to the movie you are right. It does have a lot to say to us in the modern world. But I wouldn't be too concerned about AI. Look rather at the people behind the curtains that are calling all the shots and pulling us all around by our noses with their lapdog, the media. And if you are looking for more on the subject, don't wast your time on the 3 sequels. They are horrible and immediately forgettable after you've seen them. For more of the same I'd recommend instead John Carpenter's THEY LIVE, the '80s sci-fi thriller that preceeded THE MATRIX and certainly had some influence on the movie. Or if you want to see a movie that goes into great detail how the matris applies to real life, take a look at Oliver Stone's iconic masterpiece, JFK (maybe one of the most important movies ever made, for waking people up).

"101" is a slang referring to basic knowledge of some topic or a collection of introductory materials to a topic... Neo in a ROOM (a.k.a. SPACE) 101 was Introduced to the Matrix concept and thus, was "Involved, contacted and freed" ;) And I doubt it's some coincidence 😉 As a Bonus have another trivia ;) Room 303 in the end; The number 303 is also used in the Web-page status code - "HTTP 303", Which means Redirection \ Transfer. That is the Room (or Space) in Which "Neo" was REDERECTED (Or Rebuild\Reshaped if you will) to Become "One" 🐱 And I wont even say anything about an ACTUAL Chosen-One, Since you need to watch another 3 ;) And yeah... another 3, Cuz last one (4'th) may be cringe and kinda disappointing, and yet brings up an interesting thing, that went undetected if you haven't watched Animatrix, and haven't played a Matrix MMO at the time. I wont say what is it, thus you have some motivation for the further movies! 😏

If you use your technology, your computer, only for pleasure, games, consumer of false information, etc. then you are trapped in the Matrix. In this world, just like in the Matrix, there are people who live their "real" lives, valuing love, family, friendship, trying to live a life outside of these vices (false pleasures). So in the Matrix even some programs (Smith) try to escape to find their true identity. It is in our power to make good choices to live the wonderful unique life we have been given

Neo is the name... They Call "The New One". Neo means New or Revived Form Of when you rearrange the name around, it becomes the New One. The new savior. The Door Number to his apartment is 101, can be interpreted as Binary Number. It can also mean 1 to 1. 1 (Thomas Anderson) 0 (he dies at the end) 1 (He is the revived form of The One aka Neo). In binary 1 means on, 0 means off. So Anderson gets turned off and turned back on as the One (Neo) and has his full abilities to control the matrix and he was about to delete (kill) Agent Smith at the end of the movie. So much sht laced into just a single number on his door that represents a lot of metaphorical nuances of the later parts of the movie lol Its soo crazy rewatching this movie and you sometimes find out new things you missed the other 12 rewatches lol...
