Here’s the thing with classic albums: You need to classify albums that have significant cultural influence and significance as classic. You can also say that an album of a specific artist can be called classic if they are an essential listen to understand the performer.
@shrubs5098
@shrubs5098 Жыл бұрын
Exactly, being classic doesn’t mean you “loved the album or not” it’s about the cultural impact and longevity of it. Many people don’t like 808s but it’s a classic based on how many people it influenced and how it changed the game

Hell Hath No Fury is a classic. It’s a huge step up from Lord Willin on a production basis and rapping from Pusha and Malice. Plus, it was a huge moment for it even to come out because Clipse had their We Got It For Cheap mixtapes leading up to it cause of their label issues. And Vol.1 is a classic to me.

2001 is definitely a classic i mean regardless of how you feel about the second half of the project, the album cover alone is probably Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of The Moon but for hip hop. People who have no idea about rap or hip hop culture still know how The Next Episode or Still Dre sounds like. “Smoke Weed Every Day” should be damn trademarked by Dre and Snoop because of how popular it became after 😂. Still Dre’s piano is iconic. The features are incredible. The production is TIGHT. It may not be as good and consistent as The Chronic but i would actually say is more popular, contributing to the album’s legendary status. It was just a game changer in every aspect. Solidified Snoop as a pop culture legend, brought Eminem to a higher level, the West Coast made a statement that still to this day influences many artists

Heavy disagree, it's not even the best Gunn album IMO, let alone the best Griselda album. As far as classic status goes, FLYGOD & P4P would be the ones I point to. Blientele is def one of Gunns best projects hands down but I feel for an album to be called a classic, it has to have some kind of impact or influence on the music scene. FLYGOD started the Griselda movement, and P4P broke that sound into the mainstream. Blientele was more of a transition IMO.

@@robbinhatchett4179great songs. Have you heard Brutus? Brossface Brippler? Wrestlemania 20? GODS Don’t Bleed? Elizabeth? The Steiners like what are we really doing here? The Danny Brown joint on Flygod was sloppy. Supreme Blientele flows better then any, yes ANY Griselda related project. Tana Talk 3 is a close second, but again not perfect. Royce really didn’t give one of his better verses for Who Are You, Benny verse and the beat is amazing but he has some insanely corny lines. Supreme Blientele has zero flaws and it broke them into the mainstream way before P4P. They were signed to Jay and Eminem already, and he got features from Tyler, Joey and Wale before Pray for Paris came out, so obviously he was famous PRIOR to that album coming out.

Good Kid maad city shouldn’t even count. Yes, it’s his second studio album, but it was his MAJOR debut meaning it was his first big mainstream album that was backed up by a big label. TPAB was the album where everyone was staring at kendrick if he can follow up

Why should that matter for him when it doesn't matter for anyone else?

TPAB was the one everyone was staring at BECAUSE GKMC didn’t fall victim to the Sophomore Slump and ended up being as big as it is. So once TPAB dropped it was a 3-Peat run which only a handful of artist can factually say they did. That’s why it was so big. It’s no different than Graduation or Tha Carter III. Ion think it’s a strong argument to say GKMC was his first album just because it had more backing behind it. TDE was already an established independent label when Section 80 was released so that is his debut and GKMC is the follow up

It doesn’t matter what if it was his major label debut, Kendrick still had a whole album before GKMC. Not a mixtape, an album.

@@mistahmst Kendrick also acknowledges section 80 so the fact his "fans" makes no sense to me

Take Care a classic but not 2001? I’ma big Drake fan but i’m also from the westcoast, Ya’ll bugging. That plays everywhere here in Los Angeles, Til this day 😂 It’s a hood classic definitely. And it’s like the Westcoast Illmatic where you can feel the city in the tone of the album. The violence, the gangster life. Shit is perfect at painting this picture❤️
