I’m hearing a lot of nay say about entertainment industry layoffs, but if the deference between a director and developer is one has resources to make games or movies and the other has the knowledge to use those resources. I think this ai skips the "generating the scene" step and just generates the final image. It "knows" what shapes and colours must appear on screen according to the prompt, so generates a 2d image featuring them. This is just a layman's perspective based on what i've read, so i would recommend looking into it more yourself :)
