Nobody & The Computer

Күн бұрын

To create this short film, I utilized AI extensively, but there's a significant amount of human effort and creativity behind it. It's not just about generating prompts and producing a film-far from it.
The idea for the film was entirely human. I don't believe AI can come up with great story ideas on its own, so I didn't use AI for the initial idea phase. I wrote the basic outline of the script without any AI assistance. Once the story was clear, I started developing the characters. Through trial and error with text-to-image generators, I created Robert, the main character, the robots with their retrofuturistic look, and the rest of the characters.
As I polished the script, I used AI as a creative collaborator for specific tasks. For example, I used AI to rewrite dialogues to match specific eras, styles, or tones-especially the lines for the robots.
Instead of traditional methods involving cameras, real actors, musicians, and sound designers, etc, I used AI to generate the images, convert those images to video, create the voices, generate the music and the sound effects. Everything you see and hear was generated using generative AI.
Think of this as a new genre of filmmaking. It's not meant to replace traditional films but to exist alongside them, much like animated films. AI will not replace humans; it's a tool that, in this case, made it possible for a story imagined by a human to become a short film. Without AI, this film might never have existed. The story I envisioned is now available for you to see, thanks to AI.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________
Set in a future where robots have taken over significant roles in society, the film centers on Robert, a once-aspiring singer who has settled into a life as an accountant. As robots become increasingly integrated into everyday life, Robert finds himself out of a job, without a girlfriend, and separated from his band. In a bold move to reclaim his passion for music, he disguises himself as ROBORT, a robot singer, and quickly rises to fame. However, when his true identity as a human is revealed, it sparks a resurgence of interest in human musicians, making Robert an unexpected hero. The film tells a story of resilience, identity, and the human spirit amidst the rise of technology.

love the way it leans into the slight jankiness of current AI video - in 10 years' time when that has been eradicated they will bring out plugins to bring back 'an early 2020s retro feel'. very nice work, bet it took ages to do
@jonnyhatter35
@jonnyhatter35 6 ай бұрын
Yea embracing the jankiness, especially by making it a 1950/60s aesthetic, is def dope. But honestly if you look at SORA, which is like two months old, the inherent jankiness of previous AI video is already eradicated. It's just hard to wrap our heads around how freaking fast this technology is improving. By next year we'll be reminiscing about this very video and comment thread :)

i wouldn't be so flippant about 'loving' it as, nice *_'work',_* nor do i think it will take 10 years to lose all jankiness.... 1. Artists and real human art are something that aught to be held in the highest regard...It's already been a sad state of western society, that art is so low on our list of priorities...This is just another degradation of our values (re art)... 2. I doubt it was a lot of 'work' at all.. If you have ever made a real short film and played with AI and had a handful of ppl helping you, i think you'd actually say the _opposite!_ 3. The 10 years thing. Of course, it's a matter of what you define as 'perfect' but regardless, i don't think it will be even close to 10 years, but yeh, u can guess, that's the *_least of my concerns!_* 😉 P.s. I'm not ANTI AI!: Don't get me wrong, i _do_ hope AI will save us from ourselves, in politics/greed, in health, in environmental problems...and anything else you can think of....but the way humanity has always been too immature for it's technology, is what concerns me.... Even now, tech companies race, head-long, toward the edge of the cliff and no one dares slow down, regardless of dangers, because they feel they _'can't afford' to,_ be left behind! It's a recipe for disaster! 🙄

For those who don't know, @ScottFranco1962 is talking about a 1963 episode of The Twilight Zone called Steel. Setting: it's "ten years in the future". The sport of boxing has been outlawed for humans and is now performed by robots. A former human boxer named Sam "Steel" Kelly is the manager of an old robot model named Battling Maxo. He arranges a fight against the latest model named Maynard Flash. His mechanic Pole tells him that the robot needs to be repaired, and Steel intends to use the money that he will receive from the fight to fix his robot. However, a coil breaks before the fight and Battling Maxo cannot be operated anymore. Steel proposes a bold illegal solution to Pole to resolve the problem in a desperate gamble in Maynard, Kansas. Then there was a film where Hugh Jackman does the same thing: Real Steel.

When his chum said "The only way to get gigs nowadays is to have a Robot singer" it just clicked. Now I get the meaning, and it's very clever and amazingly subtle, and what many people are missing is that the moral of the story hasn't much to do with A.I. but how society has gone down that other 'dark' path, and as much as some people say that this path is inevitable and for our own good, that it's actually turned on us and left us with a whole generation of people who cannot fulfil the role in life that they have been placed in. Even so, we allow this farce to continue because it ticks all the boxes. Everybody has their place in life, and it's a natural progression. We all saw behind the mask a long time ago, but the Powers that be are always there to hold the mask up towards a face so that it doesn't slip down...... Society has muddied the waters and it's to everyone's detriment It's a crying shame. Well done. Great video.

Entertaining! :D Also one more fascinating thing is that I know exactly what steps were necessary to take in order to create this film. It still takes a skill of the human at this stage to put it all together. But I can can see clearly how all the different AI talents have been merged here. Very interesting to witness this indeed.

10,oo0 Credits for visual design, Creepy and Visceral impact! Bravo. I also think fear based projects are a little silly, and breed alike. but that's part of their charm.

“And my girl… leaving me for a damned robot filmmaker.” HAHAAH I loved this line so much delivered w such sincerity at its absurdity. I’m also a filmmaker too been doing it since late 90s and I always hated competing w trust fund babies or having to finish my boss’s daughter’s project when she got frustrated and decided to skip town for a month. But hey! Now I can compete against robot filmmakers who can supply endless ideas to nepotism and trust fund filmmakers!

Great movie. It has a spirit of Bradbury or Sheckley stories, but the bad news (or good) is that all of it don't looks that fantastic already.
