Truly masterful painting yet again. I find white to be one of the most difficult "colors" to get right. I like the idea of using cooler tones for shadows, and warmer tones to create volumetric highlights. I always have a hard time trying to define what should be my darkest shadow color when painting something white. White is just a chalky challenge, but it appears the use of many, many, many gradual shifts can create a smooth transition. Thanks again for another inspiring video.

You often desaturate brighter colours when painting. What is the reason behind this vs using them as is?
@Sorastro4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jude - good question! I like to control the saturation just to give me another form of contrast; so I might desaturate the base/shadow tone of the skin for example, so that I can then create interest by pushing the saturation up for certain areas (like I did here when I pushed the reds in the cheek and nose area). :)

I’ve loved your painting tutorials ever since I discovered them back during Imperial Assault, but I have one difficulty - none of my local stores carry Scalecolor, which seems to be your main choice for the latest tutorials. In fact, none of their suppliers seem to carry that line as well. I prefer to support local stores, but even if I check online, the Scalecolor site is constantly sold out. Is there any color comparison guide you recommend to try and find “close enough” alternatives from Vallejo or Citadel?
@Sorastro4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! It must be annoying when I branch out to explore new paint ranges - sorry about that! If you search on the internet for "Scalecolor to Citadel (or Vallejo etc)" you'll find some conversion charts that might help (I also have one of my own on Patreon). :)
@Sorastro4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jurriaan! It looks like the official Scalecolor site has the paints in stock: scale75.com/en/scalecolor-range/171-scalecolor-colleccion.html I've also provided quite accurate conversions for Scalecolor to Citadel on the Patreon paint conversion chart for most or all of the colours I've used so far. (PS I'm not sponsored by the paint companies either, so I do feel your pain RE cost; I just enjoy exploring different ranges to see how they can be used to help achieve different effects!) 🙂

The white looks a bit streaky and grainy in some areas, is that just the army painter range or white as a whole?
@Sorastro4 жыл бұрын
Hi Xigan! There's an uneven patch on the front which was my fault - I think I applied one of the layers of highlight whilst the previous layer was only half dried, and it pulled up some of the tone beneath creating a slightly bumpy texture (not that it can be seen from arms length).
