This has got to be one of my favourites, so much detail and definition without resorting to heavy use of shade ink, can't wait to paint my JIME stuff once I can finish my Mansions of madness stuff and then clear up what's left of Black plague, Mansions of madness (I am sure I have said this before) is so horrible to paint. When it comes to my JIME painting I will follow your guides very closely, great stuff.

@Sorastro
@Sorastro 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Tanis! I didn't really do any clever blending as such on the arm - it's just a case of highlighting up in ever-lightening layers; the eye then perceives a blended transition. :)

@Auridus 3 жыл бұрын
@@Sorastro that's what I thought, thanks for replying. I've kind of tried to do that myself but it hasn't turned out perfect, but there have been times where it looked okay. I'm guessing I'm just bringing the highlight up too quickly, leading to an obvious transition.

I recommend that you do not use stainless steel agitators. Stainless steel is resistant (not immune) to corrosion in air and water, but submersion in a soup of pigments, polymer resin, and water or other solvent (propylene glycol is pretty common) is not what it's designed to protect against. And I've had stainless steel bearing balls rust away in paint. I prefer lead fishing weights personally, because metallic lead is both dense and very chemically stable in most conditions, and they're quite easy to find. But Hematite (which is an iron-oxide crystal and so quite difficult to break down) works pretty well too if you're worried about toxicity.

Thanks for the tips Doug! I believe some people also use little glass beads..? :)
@dougsundseth6904
@dougsundseth6904 3 жыл бұрын
@@Sorastro Glass beads can work, as can washed pebbles. You probably want smooth beads or pebbles. Their density is a bit lower than I like, but the price is right. For me, Scale 75 paints (which I am coming to really like) are so gloopy* that I want very dense agitators to get a good mix, hence the lead sinkers. (I also use a vortex mixer, because quality of life.) * I am a professional writer. "Gloopy" is definitely the correct technical term. 8-)

Regarding Scale75 paints - do you find them more difficult to base coat with or are they pretty comparable to other paint brands? Been wanting to give them a try, and was curious your thoughts. Great video as always, man!

Thanks a lot! I find that like with most paint ranges the opacity of the paints vary from one colour to the next, and as painters we just have to get a feel for that. I found most of the Scalecolor grey tones for example to be fairly opaque, whereas some colours like the Caspian Blue for example are a bit more translucent. :)

Maybe I missed it, but at what stage do you seal the model for play? Before basing/after basing? Also what is your best sealing method? I unfortunately don't have an airbrush yet but have brush-on sealer. I've also seen some people seal between various stages of painting. Any tips/advice? I only just started painting again for the first time in maybe fifteen years. As Gandalf once said, "I have no memory of this place."

Hello Sorastro, I'm a French fan. I learned a lot from your videos. Thank you very much for your work! I had two questions: The first one, what is the proportion of your mixture of water and flow enhancer? The last one, do you only use rosemary & co series 8 in size 2 ? You seem to have another brush that is as sharp as a needle and very precise. Thank you in advance for your answer. Continue this work always of high quality :) And sorry for my english language.

Hi Julien! I just add a few drops of the flow enhancer to the water I have in the well on the palette. I was just using the Rosemary and Co Series 8 Size 2, but sometimes I switch to an older one that's lost some weight! :)

I have a question...If you like the Scalecolor mat finish so much doesn't spraying Dul Cote on it in the end just remove that finish and replace it with the Testors finish? I see you don't do that this time but is there any concern about it chipping?
@Sorastro
@Sorastro 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Apoc! Well, both Scalecolor and Testors Dullcote have a very matte finish, so with or without the Testors, the finish is still very matte, so I'm not sure I understand your question..? Regarding your second question - I do actually still spray my figures with Dullcote; I like to show that in my initial video of a series, but just don't feel the need to show it at the end of every subsequent video (especially as I prefer to spray outside which would be a hassle to film) :)
@Fissi0nChips
@Fissi0nChips 3 жыл бұрын
@@Sorastro I guess the point of my question is that if you are using the Scale 75 in this case because you like the mat finish it gives wouldn't spraying it with dulcote just replace that nice mat finish with the dulcote mat finish? A finish that may not be as nice? It would seem that using this paint for the finish, in this case, is rendered moot by the spray which I don't think is the same finish. I have another question...are the scale colors you used in this available in a single set?
@Sorastro
@Sorastro 3 жыл бұрын
@@Fissi0nChips Hi Apoc! I'm happy to report that spaying Dulcote over the Scalecolor paint doesn't have any adverse affect, and I'm still very happy with the finish. Regarding your last question, although Scalecolor do bundle their paints into sets of eight colours, I doubt that they will have bundled the precise colours I used for Gandalf into a single set. They do however sell a complete set of all 62 colours in the range which will of course contain all the colours I used for Gandalf (and might use for future figures in the game): scale75.com/en/scalecolor-range/171-scalecolor-colleccion.html :)
