This tutorial is one I've longed to see. I LOVE the tattoo work, and the way you highlight his red skin. I'm about to re-paint a Heroclix Hulk figure to represent Red Hulk, so the skin part of this video will help immensely. Your tutorials help in so many different areas of the hobby, not just the painting of the figures you use in them. Also love the Australian Aboriginal influence in the background music, with the Clicky Sticks being used. PLEASE keep these tutorials coming, as they just get better every time. All the best. Paul

When doing the lightsaber I would recommend going more towards orange than pink. Mine came out pink at first and that looked more "fleshy" than I liked. I glazed it over with some orange to fix the tint.

Neat! I got a little tipp regarding the eyes: The 'eyeballs' are sculpted as recesses in FFG's Star Wars figures (Imperial Assault and Legion). This enables us to get immediate neat results with painting the eyeballs by taking advantage of the capillary-effect. Instead of painting the white or lighter colour of the eyballs into the recesses, dillute the white until it runs easily, take a bit of it into a brush with a very fine tip, and touch the tip lighly into the recess. The heavily dilluted colour will naturally run into the recess and stay there, resulting in a very neat, accurately-shaped eyeball that will need only minimal touching-up, if any at all. You might need to repeat this process two or three times, depending on how light you want the eyeballs to be, but it's easy enough. I paint my figures to a display standard and found this method to work very well. - 42
@Sorastro6 жыл бұрын
Hi mate - thanks for the tip! I'll certainly give that a go; I might even try it with some white ink (or white mixed with a little Payne's Grey or something). 😀

Sorastro's Painting Hi, It your show and you get to choose. I was thinking about whether you can achieve different paint thinning ratios with it and perhaps planning to make shades of one or more colours. How you did the Kingdom Death figures carrying lanterns comes to mind. I do own but haven't yet used the pallet but have seen a great many KZbin painters using it and figured there must be a few tips and tricks (or perhaps new ones being discovered). Your videos are great as always.

Hi. These tutorials are absolutely amazing. I was wondering though, if there was a certain schedule for your video releases, or maybe if you knew what figure you were planning on painting next.
@Sorastro6 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot David! Yes I usually plan several videos in advance - largely based on the voting of my patrons over on Patreon. Coming up in August will be the Shadow Dragons from Descent and the Screaming Antelope from KDM. For Imperial Assault the next mini will be Emperor Palpatine :)

Nice painting as always. Very neat work on the tattooing. Thinking about the lightsabre highlights and not making it pink... Would it work bringing the highlights up to almost white in the bottom third near the handle and then washing with bloodletter / orange / lahmian medium? That might keep it light without making it pink? (It might not as well, not tried it myself). Anyway another lovely model and another great example of OSL doing it's job well.
@Sorastro6 жыл бұрын
Thank you sir! Highlighting up to white then glazing with orange could certainly work; I'm not sure how different the finished result would be from simply adding the orange as you highlight up but I think all options are worth exploring :D

It's the first time I see you use a wet palette. Do you prefere that to the regular palette you used ? I am not surge if I should use a wet palette. Love your videos!!
@Sorastro6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Juan! I'm personally quite happy using both types of palette, but I do think it's worth at least trying a wet palette out to see if it's for you or not. I like the way they encourage a freer approach to mixing colours and of course it's handy that they keep the paint wet for longer for sure.. :)

You always make it look so easy! But after trying OSL myself, the first attempt failed quite hard (yellow). The second attempt (fluorescent green) was much better, but still much to learn. Third one's a charm, right? Just curious, how many mini's do you paint per week?
@Sorastro6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Anneke! I usually produce two videos per month plus a set of three PDF guides on Patreon, so typically I paint around 5 figures per month, although some of them might be entire units of figures of course :) I also sometimes paint just for fun or to try out new techniques etc although not as often as I might like due to time constraints :)
@davidfortezadelrey31816 жыл бұрын
Hello! Lovely work as usual. Are you using the everlasting wet palette? If so are you applying thinner to your color mixes or does the humidity in the palette suffices? Thanks again for such great videos
@Sorastro6 жыл бұрын
Thanks David! Yes I am using the Everlasting Wet Palette; I still usually thin the paint with a little water just as I do when using a normal palette :)

I’m new to watching you and LOVE the content. I’m sure you’ve been asked this before, but how do you maintain your brush point? Is this a matter of the type of brush, how you maintain it, or just amazing control? I can’t get my brushes (even the smallest) to maintain a point sharp and stiff enough to pick out the details like you do with a #2. Just amazing!
@beastmendelegate19466 жыл бұрын
First off, amaze-balls. Can I say amaze-balls here? Now here’s a new game I didn’t know I wanted until about 30 minutes ago, so thanks for that, not. Secondly, I’m sure that you get, literally, trillions of requests every, single day from schmucks asking you to paint stuff and I’m sure that there’s a place for such requests but being a barbarian HighLord I don’t know about things like that. Thirdly off, I wanted to get to my request which is this: can you paint a ghost or something ghostly? There is some pretty cool stuff from the Age of Sigmar line but really any ghost will do. Just wanted to see how you’d go about it. Probably all awesomely, which is annoying but mostly cool.
@Sorastro6 жыл бұрын
Ha ha - thanks Matt! I think amaze-balls is totally acceptable :) It's been ages since I last painted something ghostly (some old Vampire Count WH stuff I think). I don't have anything ghost-like in my immediate paint queue however, but I'm sure something will come along at some point.. :)

@Sorastro6 жыл бұрын
From IA so far I've covered: Alliance Smuggler, Echo Base Troopers, General Sorin, Hired Guns, ISB Infiltrators, Jawa, Murne Rin, Ugnaughts, WIng Guards and Wookie Warriors. I've also covered quite a few Descent minis, and the Gloomhaven starting minis. I usually produce a set of three guides per month, just as a way of covering more minis than I could in video form (and it's a nice reward for my patrons of course) :)
@Mailed-Knight6 жыл бұрын
Oh year cool, I know I've asked this already but any chance of you doing IA Shyla Varad from Jabba's Palace anytime soon?
@Sorastro6 жыл бұрын
Hi! The order I paint them is actually determined by patron vote and Palpatine is up next in the queue after which I'll host a fresh vote to see what the next few minis will be, so yes I'll get to Shyla but I'm just not sure when :)

Hey Sorastro, l got some issues with my Maul. Normally when minis comes warped (lances etc) boiling water has always fixed them. Maul, however, refuses and his lightsaber soon bends back to a weird S-curve, any tips how do deal with this?
