Also note that in BG3, you can go one level of Wizard anytime and get the ability to scribe spell scrolls into your spellbook at any level you can cast. So you can be Sorcerer 11/Wizard 1 and get access to all the Wizard spells for the Sorcerer and cast them all the way to Level 6 Spells.

Wizards: We literally study day and night. The results is that while we can cast each spell depending on its level few or less times, we have access to as many as we want and we can forget and learn multiple times before resting before a battle. Sorcerers: We can cast spells even more frequently and we can learn many of them, once we learn something we can't unlearn it unless we level up. Also we got our powers because our ancestors at worst were touched by the supernatural or became supernatural creatures...or they either shagged or got shagged by them. Warlocks: We make a pact with a supernatural creature either on purpose or accident...and all we need is Eldritch Blast.

One other difference: Wizard is the only class with intelligence as the primary stat, so if you want to explore some of the intelligence-based dialog options, wizard is the way to go. Sorcerers are charisma-based, and if you want to experience those dialog options, you can also explore them with warlocks or paladins. I really want to make a halfling storm sorcerer if only because the idea of a halfling flying around raining death from above sounds hilarious, particularly when you combine that with the gee-shucks country bumpkin halfling dialog options.

@@HeldotbIt does make sense though. Because sorcerors are born with the ability to do magic. They don’t have to study like wizards and they didn’t make a deal with an otherworldy being like a warlock, they were born able to just do magic, which is why many are arrogant and extremely confident in their abilities. Doing a Sorcerer Durge playthrough now after a first playthrough with Gale as the party caster and it does feel like Sorcerers are for KZbin gimmicks by comparison. The irony is that helps indirectly with combat by forcing me to not bring a pile of utility spells like I would on a Wizard and wind up with a much more focused build.
@Sotanaht01 Жыл бұрын
@@Dankest-Jedi Sorcerers are supposed to be combat casters, but metamagic is gutted in BG3 compared to tabletop and with Haste being so much better than tabletop, there's really very little reason to ever take a Sorcerer over a Wizard in BG3. Specifically, Quickened Metamagic in tabletop only costs 2 sorcery points, not 3, and it's the only way besides Action Surge to cast 2 spells normally requiring an Action in a round. That makes it MUCH more valuable. Transmuted Spell also would make Dragon bloodlines much more competitive with an Evocation wizard for damage, but we don't get that either, nor do we get Empowered spell. Using Twinned spell to cast 2 Hastes with a sorcerer is appealing, but since you could just throw a Potion of Haste to get the same effect (or more, if you group tightly enough) for only the cost of an attack action (extra attacks apply) and with no concentration needed it's a waste there too.

I started out as wizard and this is my first time ever playing this kind of game. The idea that I could use almost any spell was really appealing at first until I saw videos covering these classes and realized that sorcerer is a lot stronger. Then I played some more and learned more about the game and realized that sorcerer class is one dimensional and the damage is only insane for one or two turns, after which you run out of sorcery points. Wizard gives an awesome mix of utility, cc, and offense, that I just can’t see myself going through the game without anymore. Saw a lot of “one man army” kind of sorcerer builds where you take whatever element and turn it into a nuke which is really cool, but I like having more diverse options as well as building a party as opposed to building just one character. Wizard also has access to some very unique qualities like the divinity subclass allowing you to guarantee hit/ dodge in certain situations, or the abjuration subclass allowing you to be a legendarily tanky mage with incredible options for both offense and defense. The necromancer build is also quite cool even if the undead summons kinda suck but it’s still unique to the wizard class. Really enjoy this class and it’ll be hard to beat for sure.
@CosmicChris Жыл бұрын
I think the easiest way to compare them is. "Do you want to speedrun, or sequence break?" Wizard. They let you just skip. But I never feel they are really... the one I use for combat. Lotta options, but a lot of it feels like superfluous semantics and flavors of things. "Do you want to be a good talker who does good damage?" Sorcerer, especially storm Sorcerer if you want extra mobility. Magic is just sorta situational I feel in both cases. It can be powerful, or it can be like a wet fart. There is pretty much no inbetween. But, you can just do the best of both too. But if you are like me... "2 levels of Wizard for Evocation, the Rest Sorcerer." I will never have to waste Metamagic points to worry about friendly fire. Just spec with Sorcerer in mind. Grab the Crown or Tiera of Intellect. And you basically expand all your versatility. Want to disguise yourself? Enhance leap? Featherfall? Talk to Animals or even do Necromancy? You literally can. Can also use Shield spell too. (You can probably do the same for Druid and or Cleric. And just absolutely cheese with moonbeam.) Magic I feel is pretty underwhelming so far as somebody in act 2. Because it boils down to. "Traversal, Social, Support and Combat". Despite all the magic I have. Despite all the stat investment. Magic is either going to absolutely nuke, miss, or do so little, you questioned why you are not just using Collage of Sword Bard, and duelwielding two Hand Crossbows with a Caustic Ring, spamming Slashing Flourished Ranged. But I get the strong feeling, magic is tailored more for Tactician than it is Balanced. That, or they made Martial really good in this game. Personally, I feel more impressed by Cleric the most out of most of the Casters. Druid is cool tool... but Clerics outright terrify me. Weirdly very tanky. Can fit many types of roles. Provides some of the best support. And can pretty not die easily. Only thing is, Shadowheart exist, so I reset her stats and change domains. She is just an absolute force of nature. Obviously, at the end of the day. "You should do what you want. These are just my observations and RNG is a huge factor with performance as well."
@nguyendi92 Жыл бұрын
@@CosmicChris The strength of Magic , especially in Tactician (And for me Tactician Plus mod) is Ultilities and Battle field control. In fights with every single enemies have 100% more health than you, higher AC and Spell saving? A Fireball is shit. But you know what is strong? Haste your Martial. Or Retreat and Cloud of Dagger ( guarantee hit)/ Hunger of Hadar(Darkness+ DMG + Difficult Terrain) the choke point. Thunderwave 2+ enemies. Also can buff Mage armor and Long Strider for your party. I have my college of Lore Bard use Hunger of Hadar and then Thunderwave from Wizard with Rouge using Arrow of Roaring Thunder to push them back in the cloud, the entire team didn't even take a hit. After you have high enough Spell DC from items. You can even reliably CC them . Like using Crown of Madness. The funny thing is that the enemies actually prioritized the Madness enemy and leave your team alone. I once CC the Fighting Instructor guy on the Gith's Mountainpass, and all his student just gang up and beat him to death, what a karmic justice.
@CosmicChris Жыл бұрын
@@nguyendi92 I feel so bad for taking so long to respond to this. But those are pretty awesome examples. But the unfortunate thing for me is... BG3 is pretty easy as is in my opinion as somebody who is playing both Vanilla (Non modded), Balanced and Tactician between me and a friend or two. Which is so weird to me, because compare it to Larian's Last 2 games... Those games are pretty hard in my opinion. But like... The worst I had to deal with thus far difficulty wise? Minthara was a slight difficulty spike just due to her gear set effects and personal skills. And even then. "RNG is more of a factor to a degree in this game rather than actual skill checking. You can mitigate those rolls, to a degree, but it is still largely RNG. Minus the few things that disregard it." I'm not even saying you're wrong for how you play the game. The only "Incorrect way" I can think of for playing this game, is doing the extreme opposites of what is intended of your Class' function. (I.e, a Rogue is not a healer. A Sorcerer probably is not the best choice for martial. That sort of thing.) Even as a Bard, I rarely had a reason to use Magic at times. With The DU Mantle, and CoS Bard. Duel Wield Slashing Flourish with Caustic Ring, and some Cantrips Occasionally. and he pretty much had no issues taking out threats. I'm not a "Meta" type of player, I don't care about that really. But my mind gravitated to doing what felt comfortable for me. Because of that, Magic feels so awkward to me. Not useless. But I find myself not using MP skills often. Crowd Control is nice, but so is just outright killing a perceived problem or threat. Despite any gripes I may have, I still feel like this game will and is my personal GoTY. It's just super fun. But I hope it gets a few difficulty tweaks.

For raw combat potential a sorc is stronger than wizard, cause you have metamagic points to increase their damage or add new characteristics to spells. But you can't change their spells on the fly, so it isn't flexible. Wizard main advantage is being able to change your spells whenever you want, so depending on situation to use more offensive, defensive, debuffing spells. Also makes changing gear and having different builds easier..though you can respec sorc to change as well, but thats an annoying thing to do constantly. Just wanted to add that along with Markoheshkir, Staff of spell power obtained in house of hope is another staff that grants 1 free spell cast of any level and you can duel wield both of them, equip the amulet in this video, unlock your illithid powers and take free cast from it. With all of that done you can now cast level 6 spells 4 times for free. Markoheshkir gives you a spell called kereska's favor, this allows you to pick an element giving you resistance and 2 spells to free cast. If you chose lightning element you get a free cast of chain lightning. There seems to be a glitch, if you use this it will spend your illithid power free cast usage sadly. I believe this is a glitch because illithid powers have nothing to do with the staff or the spell this staff gives you.

15:35 As Wizard playthrough I'm not sure about this. Long Rest is very cheap in this game, while it might be bothersome to do so often (time consuming). But even if the wizard does not need the rest, oftentimes your other party members need it. 16:18 is what bothers me the most with my wizard playthrough. It's a hassle to move in and out scroll out of the backpack. Wizard scrolls are also expensive, to purchase and learn. I have to ready Astarion anytime in my party member (To loot/pickpocket vendors). 17:02 Spells like Hold Person have limited use with Wizard. Often you just want to staright shoot Chain Lightning instead. It is far better when Sorcerer use them, as their chance of failure is lower, also with multi spells. Overall, even if your wizard learn all those spells, most of the time, you'll only be slotting powerful offensive and BIS utilities. Why? Because it is a hassle to manage Wizard's ready spell, and tailoring them into each battle is just ughh.. I wish wizard got more chance to cast spells per turn, and have more spell slots given to them. Unfortunately, no, they are only a big library. Personally, Sorcerer/Warlock is far the better choice, due to the build in skills those class give. Wizard feels like carrying a library of books, but you're not going to read 90% of them. You can change your roleplay often, but I think most players will find it too bothersome.

2:30 Within BG3 at least, that main difference between Sorcerer and Wizard is a bit of a moot point because you can re-spec your Sorcerer whenever you want and change his selection of spells. I've tried to avoid Withers most of the time, but I did catch myself re-speccing my Sorcerer at least once to get a different spell into his memory. I wonder how Pen-and-Paper sorcerers handle this. Probably DM's discretion, I suppose. I'm on a Draconic Fire Sorcerer build ATM and you can do some crazy shit with that. I'm using that set of gloves that give you stacks of heat for every hit you score (forgot the name of the gloves, sorry). So... upcast Scorching Ray to four or five (depending on your level), hit a bunch of enemies and get heat-stacks. It's usually 6 or 7 for me after the first attack. Then use Quickened Spell to cast Scorching Ray a second time, this time using the highest spell-slot you have (5 or 6, ideally). Activate Heat Conversion and let her rip. This will add your stacks of heat as damage to (I think) every single ray you shoot off. So with 6 or 7 rays and 6 stacks of heat that should be 36 to 42 additional damage by using a set of 90 GP gloves. Plus you can still add more damage by using that Radiating Orb ring to put a light-source on all your targets and the ring that'll deal +2 on enemies that are illuminated. Even tougher bosses go down pretty easily like that. The only drawbacks I found so far are that you will take damage by unused heat-stacks (both in combat and once it ends) and fire resistance doesn't seem to protect you from that. I guess "heat" is different from "fire damage". The other drawback is when you only rely on fire damage, you'll be SOOL once you come up against an enemy/boss who's immune to fire. The Elemental Adept feat only ignores resistances, not immunity, so it doesn't help here. I suppose you'd need to use debuffs for that (Perilous Stakes should work), but if you forget about immunity, you'll burn off a ton of rays and use up a high level spell-slot, just to see a lot of zeros float above your target.. :) That was one instance where I needed to re-spec to grab some ice or lightning based spells for these situations. Another neat "trick" I just discovered are the Gemini Gloves (which I think you have equipped in the video): They will let any magic user access a similar mechanic to Twinned Spell. They only work with cantrips and only once per short rest, but: As a sorcerer, you can use them *and* twinned spell at the same time and you'll get three projectiles of the same cantrip. So 3x Fire Bolt or 3x Ray of Frost, etc. A higher level Sorcerer with other gear to boost cold/fire/lightning damage can do quite a lot of damage like that without even having to spend a spell-slot.

in my opinion the two very best spells for a wizard are cloudkill and chain lightning . this combo is so powerful . I almost exclusively use this combo . My husband and I just finished the game yesterday ( 11/22/23) in multiplayer mode, took us a little less than a week to complete . it was rough only due to the constant disconnects , lag , and random other "technical" issues .

I tried wizard for a little bit and found myself regretting not taking specific spells constantly, no matter how much I thought about it beforehand. Sorcerer alleviated that for me, much like you said in regards to not being big brain, by instead making me think more about how I can use what I have to my advantage instead of what I could have brought. That's probably more of a mindset issue for me than anything, you can obviously think the same way about whatever you took as wizard, but there was always that part of my mind that focused a little too hard on what ifs.

Why choose? You can have 20 cha and 20 int fairly easily in the game. Go with 10 sorcerer / 2 wizard and you literally have as many spells than a full l12 wizard can prepare and learn everything while still starting your day with 10 sorcery points and not lose any spell slots
@Sotanaht01 Жыл бұрын
No you cant. In order to get 20/20 with a 10/2 sorc/wiz, you would need to start with 17 cha 16 int (or reverse), take Ability improvements twice to bring it to 20 int using ALL of your feat options, wear the hat that adds +2 Charisma (the only item in the game that adds a direct bonus to either charisma or intelligence), and get the permanent +1 from Aunty Ethel. Doing so means sacrificing much more valuable headgear options. Also your Con will suck unless you use the amulet of greater health, losing out on a +2 to spell save DCs instead. Also worth noting that you'll have far fewer slots to memorize wizard spells. I've been doing similar things with a Wizard/Cleric, but having only 4 wizard slots for memorization is tough.
@mounirboudraa1515 Жыл бұрын
@@Sotanaht01 you forgot the +2 bonus you get in the Shar gauntlet with the mirror of loss and the other +2 bonus you get at the end of shadowheart personal quest. So. You don't have to rely on charisma's hat. Also, with a +5 int and 2 lvl in wizard, this allows you to prepare 7 spells in addition to the 11 you would already have as a sorcerer which is 18 spells total with 7 you can change on demand. That's more than the 17 a wizard can prepare at lvl 12 with 5int. Doing that would mean you have to sacrifice on either con or dex, you're right. But you also have gear that allows you to bumb those 2 stats including an amulet that set your con at 23. So yes, it's absolutely possible to do. That being said remaining at 18char and 18int if you don't want to use special gear means 6 spells you can prepare on demand in addition to the 11 you'd have. Which is still 17 spells and higj enough DC to not worry about failing them and proficiency with con check thanks to sorcerer.

Sorcerer is the more optimal class because of the amount of advantage meta magic gives. Anyone who plays DnD knows the first turn or 2 really dictate the battle. Sorcerers being able to burst damage turn 1-2 with like 4 fireballs or 2 level 5 scorching rays can trivialize fights. Plus being able to spend slots for sorcery points, and then using a potion of angelic slumber puts them into god-tier. Was able to solo the game on honor mode with a sorcerer.

I like doing whichever class until level 7 then respecting if needed to a level 7 wizard learning four utility spells like haste cloud darkness counter spell remove curse, whichever for you find those useful that do not require a attack roll or saving throw. Then reroll into at max level a level one wizard level 5 warlock level 6 sorcer. Use the crown to jump your intelligence up to level 17 slot whichever for you want to use for wizard remove that and you still have access to all four that you would slotted. By doing this you have two level three spells in warlock that you can cast six times a long rest you still have a level 4 slot in sorcerer to upcast. You can twin spell haste seven times per long rest with this without using any sorcerer spells slots. That's 14 hastes, which is ridiculous in BG3.

I always preferred wizard over sorc, then in 5th edition the choice became moot as I have always enjoyed using more utility and tactical spells to just blunt force destruction. and the spell options that wizard gets in 5th edition are just so good for the way i like to play. it really needs to be pointed out tho that sorc in 5th edition is not as overpowering compared to a wizard as they are in bg3. multiclassing to learn extra spells, whilst technically an option is significantly harder because of the stat requirement in 5th edition. ontop of that all the good wizard spells are absent. i was heartbroken to learn that wall of force isnt in this game. tho i can understand why, it's a broken spell. wizards rule

As someone who started the game completely unfamiliar with D&D rules, I chose Wizard because I liked the description but I was kinda regretting it when pretty much every build guide out there says that Sorcerer is "Wizard, but better in almost every way". I'm glad to know that there's a positive to playing Wizard.

I do suffer a bit from what you could call "roleplay corruption" because back in the day we had a party that included me on a wizard and my friend playing a sorc. and the two characters had a very fun rivalry, which has stemmed into my view of the classes a bit. but, that said. wizard is significantly stronger in 5e it comes down to as i said the multiclassing but also, in 5e you can cast 1 lvl'd spell per turn, pop haste and action surge etc to get extra actions, it does not matter. you can cast 1 lvl'd spell per turn. and again the biggest part is that there is a big list of wizard only spells that have not been translated across into bg3. and for a very good reason, wizards are notorious for ending combat in 1 turn. final argument, it's called wizards of the coast not sorcerers of the coast. there is a bias @@SidheKnight

@@Sotanaht01 In BG3 Sorcerer > Wizards, especially since the level cap is 12. Wizards don't really get the good stuff until passed level 10. It's one of the reasons why sorcerer is the 2nd most picked class in BG3 and gets an S rank, while the Wizard is one of the least picked classes and gets an A rank at best.
@Sotanaht01 Жыл бұрын
@@Primal4panda Just because something is popular, doesn't make it good. Sorcerers D rank at best. To be fair, a typical single class wizard would only be a C rank as well. Fighters are the real S rank in this game. Wizards do have a couple of builds that absolutely blow anything else out of the water (evocation spec with spellmight gloves and magic missile, abjuration spec with Armor of Agathys), but mostly they are best used as a 1 level dip for your cleric. Sorcerer looks good on paper. Especially for people with little knowledge of the game or system, I'm not at all surprised it would be a popular pick. Hell, it's by far my top choice in basically every other dnd video game. In practice though, it brings practically nothing to the table. Useful as a dip to grab armor of agathys or constitution proficiency, nothing more. Edit; I actually do have to concede one major point. Because Sorcerers use Charisma, and your main character generally NEEDS to be your face with charisma skills, they are actually a decent pick for that. If you want spellcasting and charisma skills, you can take the slightly sub-optimal spellcaster sorcerer, maybe with a 1 level wizard dip for utility, and maximize your talking ability.
@Smiley1967 Жыл бұрын
always rememver as a wizard you will have multiple item with you so you can last long in fights f.e. the amulet he showed is only usefull outside of fights take something into the fight what supports your playstyle like extra damage f.e. a special spell etc etc. also most of the staffs that you can gain have the same main ability so when you used them just switch to another one like the one combined with the most used spells like ice and fire or lighting. wizard is really not a beginners class but super useful in so many situations especially on the high levels you are obliterating whole enemy groups doesn't matter if undead vampires, some extra boots on the ground etc. always look for the enemy weakness. had often zero issues in fights because of it just had to adapt my tactics like going into round base mode making sb invisible and entering a fight. You dont want to do a lot of climbing use the wizard to teleport, a hole is too small use the wizard, a door that wont open use the wizard etc. etc. Most of the abilities that you can unlock with a sorccerer you can also get by using different kind of gloves hats etc. like quick bonus action using a tier 1 spell.

There's a big difference in Wizard's Scribe Spells in BG3 (which may be a bug) that makes it so much more overpowered compared to DND's Scribe Spells. Basically if you're Sorcerer 11 / Wizard 1 (or any spellcaster multiclass), you can Scribe Spells the same as if you were a Wizard 12, meaning you can learn Level 6 spells as a technically level 1 Wizard. In DND this is not the case, you would only be able to Scribe Spells as a level 1 Wizard since that's your only Wizard level. This is massive, the biggest appeal to Wizards is they have the best selection of spells, the Scribe Spell implementation makes it so you can access any spell of your caster level as long as you dip at least 1 level in Wizard. Basically almost any full caster would benefit greatly from a 1 level dip in Wizard, maybe 2 if you want the subclass while still retaining the best parts of a full class Wizard (the spells) while also progressing in your other class. A bonus thing is that you can get an item relatively early that can set your Int to 17, so you could dump Int as another spellcaster class, grab this item, then dip 1 level into Wizard and you're basically almost 2 classes at the same time.

Sorcy aaaall the way. Especially the dragonborn ( add gem dragon mod at nexus etc to make em stronk! ) + draconic bloodline sorcerer = double dragon ancestry whammy! And to pay homage to purple and orange dragons as a dragonborn?paint em those colors then, red + blue and red + yellow/ green. Yes theres no main true yellow dragon represented but use green instead. Green breathes chlorine poison gas that itself could be product of yellows salt breath + blues lightning dragon parents.

The beauty of Draconic bloodline for Dragonborn is you can change skin color to whatever you want as well as the ancestor color. Wish there were more color options but now it's the only way I play Sorc is Dragonborn, just too cool.
