Honestly, I agree with you that spells shouldn’t be relied on as your main attacks. My intelligence-based character only uses spells like a bow before closing the distance with their Magic or Cold-infused greatsword. And endgame, I just use the Dark Moon Greatsword

Magic is very much the anti-Holly, as almost no enemies in the game resist Magic, so it can deal huge amounts of damage thanks to all the boosts and buffs it gets.

One of my favorite things is that you can see they nerfed Founding Rain of Stars in the prerelease gameplay video they put out. When the player casts it against the Draconic Tree Sentinel it appears over DTS's head instead of the caster.

Crystal torrent is arguably better than azur's comet, since torrent has a touch of tracking on it's spray. That being said, that just means that bosses need to walk 5 feet to the right instead of 2 to get out of the way.

I kinda like that there are a bunch of superfluous spells that all do roughly the same thing. It makes sense that the sorcerers/academics study various forms not for any practical use, but rather for the sake of studying the arts themselves.

The reason is efficiency vs effectiveness. The different versions of Glintstone Pebble are gain increasingly higher damage in exchange for becoming less and less FP efficient. So when you get enough Mind to use them it's an actual upgrade, but until then you're balancing DPS against the mathematical possibility of victory. That's the real thing. Spellcasters worry about whether it's even possible to win with 0 red flasks and max blue flasks, while emptying all of their blue bar without missing. And that's something that no melee user will ever even consider.

The shotgun crystal spell is best used vs stance broken bosses I can typically break with a glintblade Phalanx weapon and fire off a charged barrage or two uncharged shots. Most spells would be vastly improved (becoming almost usable) by allowing movement and lower casting times, but alas, we just get 30 flavors of laser and a few solid options for offhand use :/

Bogart is a cool dude offers a consumable that greatly reduces damage taken by up to 20%. (If you follow Rya's quest line to it's conclusion you get a talisman that makes the tarnished take 30% more damage) Rya is a snake pretending to be a human, serves some devil worshippers who assassinate good tarnished, she seems to be perfecting fine with you being fed to the biblical "great serpent." Yeah, I only killed Bogart once and that was to do a man in the iron mask playthrough. Fun fact: You can buy Rya's necklace from him for 1,000 runes.

Been a few vids and I think this slipped through the cracks so I'm going to restate my suggestion of a Maliketh 2 in 1 Secret Statring Class playthrough (pair?) Playing as Gurranq through NG, with Cinquedea, Beast Spells, clawmark seal and some good old rags Then entering second phase for NG+ with Maliketh's drip, sword and spells and an Erdtree Seal. Clawmark and Beast spells sound like a bad time in NG but Rokk Toss is quite nice once you get to it and Cinquedea is surprisingly decent. Scales mostly strength too so it puts in a surprising amount of work.

In my blind playthrough days I didn’t find any of the spellbooks, Night Comet, Sellen or the Turtle… Anything, really. It was Glintstone Pebble, Oracle Bubbles and Glintstone Arc until the CRYSTAL RELEASE OF DEVASTATION. I was sure about it being the best spell ever, good times.

I feel you should specify that the tier lists are for boss fights specifically, since you rate utility spells very lowly because of their long cast times, when their purpose is to do things like make the rot swamps less annoying and cleanse bleed from the exploding enemies at Mohg's,. Also the lower levels of laser spells exist to give spell casting a progression and are meant to be mostly replaced as you increase your intelligence and Loretta's great bow is exists so you can snipe annoying enemies with its long range while going through dungeons. As for what justifies Founding Rain's 2 slots, I'm pretty sure it is meant for multiplayer PvP to hit people out of their rolls so your buddy can smash them.

They're not for when you increase your intelligence, it's for when you increase your mind. They trade raw power for efficiency. Pebble will always be able to output significantly more damage per FP used than the higher tier spells that do the same thing, and spellcasters spend most of the run asking themselves whether it's even POSSIBLE for them to defeat bosses, mathematically, because even with 0 red flasks it's not a guarantee that hitting every shot and using your most FP efficient spell will let it be POSSIBLE to deal enough damage to win.

Yeah, mostly just spot on with the spell tier list. I will say that Comet is better than Night Comet vs every single enemy that doesn't dodge, so at worst it should be equal or a tier below Night Comet.
