Thanks for posting this video as it clearly shows that not every box is a banger, some are average & some below average. I've been very lucky with A.L. having pulled a "Holy Grail" out of the one sealed case I pre-ordered with my FLGS. None of single boxes that I've purchased off of TCG have yielded an EV much higher than the cost of the box itself.

Thanks for watching, we appreciate it! ❤️ We post all of our box openings precisely to show that some will be fine, some great and some below average. Sometimes the pictures and videos on social media skews the picture and people end up feeling bad about a box that was actually fine, not a God box, but definitely a fine box. We will have a video coming out this week about the current EV on boxes and the risk/reward of cracking boxes. 😉

@@CardboardGuide I sent off my Gilded Foil "Holy Grail" card to CGC last week for grading (along with a friends curio) so once it comes back I'll be releasing an unboxing video for the grade reveal. With the current turn around time for their "express" service being around 5 days the cards should be back fairly soon. I played MTG from the late 90's up until 2010, I quit playing CCG's entirely until Sorcery. That being said I'm not just a collector but a player as well. Your channel has been very informative and provided a lot of insight into the game itself. Keep up the excellent work.

I agree that some boxes hit really nice and others completely fail. I, for one, don't mind it because if all boxes where great, then it wouldn't feel as good if you get that amazing hit. I will admit though I'm questioning if I should buy more as true unique foils are hard to hit.
@CardboardGuide2 ай бұрын
I think it makes sense to have boxes that are good, bad, and anywhere in between for sure. The thrill of the chase is partly due to the fact that the cards are hard to pull. I do think that for this particular set, at least getting some more value out of the packs by playing with them makes it feel a little less frustrating when the good hits don’t show up. We have opened another box beyond this one, and that will probably be it for us. The rest of the cards we need for our collection and decks will be bought as singles. 😉 Thanks for watching! 🙌🏻

I would love a mathematical analysis of Sorcery set print runs using your data on curios. For example, in Alpha your discord data shows that the most pulled curio is sketch Erik's Curiosa. Other alpha curios have been less pulled but this might be opening variance and also that some curios are more difficult to spot. The sketch card stand out very easily even to casual fans. So assuming that all curios have the same print run, we can multiply 18 curios times 25 (maximum pulled curio) which gives 450 curios in total. Then, assuming that curios appear every 50 boxes on average, this amounts to an amount of 22.500 boxes. But we know that some curios go under your discord radar, so this number might be higher. Accountung for this, the estimated number is not far away from the 29.000 boxes estimated for alpha according to kickstarter data. Assuming beta has the same curio frequency, and knowing that 40 have been pulled of the most pulled one, one can assume that 720 beta curios have been opened, which gives a total of 36 thousand beta boxes opened. This can lead to good estimates of the actual beta print run in some years when the majority of product will have been opened. But around 36.000+ (accounting for unspotted curios) beta boxes have been opened. So it is not wild to believe that total beta print run could easily be DOUBLE the alpha print run (~50k-60k). I wish Wizard's Den made a video on this topic.

Nobody knows but Eric, while being a Magic first dude, I do think your estimate is on the high side still. 🤘🦁🤘
@CardboardGuide2 ай бұрын
I think it would be interesting and you could ask Haine if he would be willing to try and make some estimates. I think the main issue is that the data is inherently very biased, lots of Curios in bulk and lots go unreported. On top of that the amount opened versus saved in closets is super difficult to guess at, but Haine probably could run some scenarios. Thanks for watching! 😉

That was a rough box, no sugar coating it. However, thanks for posting anyways and staying positive!! I am tired of watching Sorcery videos by other folks who just complain the whole video about the box and I generally can't even finish the negative videos because they are so miserable. And, yes - who can stop at opening just two of these boxes?! I'm opening my 4th box tonight for Halloween (any reason to open a box ;). My last box had 4 foil uniques (one was an 'uelite' Percival, but I was still over the moon as I love that art and it's the box cover art) which is a high bar to clear going forward. The other unique foils were 'Rhongomyniad', 'A Midsummers Night's Dream', and 'Sir Galahad'.

Hi there! Every box we open on camera goes up, I think it is really important to actually show all the different kind of boxes. I think our attitude is about knowing that it is a gamble opening boxes, hopefully the experience is still enjoyable even if you hit a less spicy box, because you still get cards to play with, some foils, and maybe some stuff for the trade binder, all while enjoying the beautiful art! Opening a box for Halloween seems like a legitimate reason! 😉 I hope you got some cool cards and had a fun time opening! I would say that A Midsummer Night's Dream in foil is on the wishlist, I am sure it looks stunning in foil? Thanks for much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, we always enjoy chatting.

Absolutely! We really wished we got to pull one, but with one box left it doesn’t look very likely. 🫠☺️ I enjoy the chase cards as it adds some extra spice, while the Uniques and foils are still difficult to pull.
