Easter as its celebrated in most religious contexts makes sense for Christians, more so than Christmas does. Holy week is often a big deal with multiple services and people read through the story of Jesus' death. Sometimes they enact it. Many go to a sunrise service to celebrate the Resurrection on Easter Sunday, and then after spend a day with family eating a meal and doing the egg hunt thing. The secular version feels very distinct but also makes sense. It's "weekend brunch" the holiday, and a celebration of spring.
@vanguardiris3232 Жыл бұрын
I like the relationship between Easter and eggs a great deal. When I was little I was told that chocolate eggs have that stained-glass sort of pattern on them to represent the cuts in Jesus' head from the crown of thorns, and that egg booling is not just for fun but also to remind us of the stone rolling away from the tomb. Some wild myths built up to legitimise some of the peculiar nonsense of Easter

whenever you're picking a place to set your building down, the score it shows you is the tile improvement number minus the cost of the building. Easter rabbits and eggs were adopted from the pagan celebration Ostara/Eostre and originally represented fertility! while some people think "Easter" comes from the goddess Eostre, it's much more likely that they just share the same root word of "dawn" and were adapted between Germanic languages in a similar way because of shared meaning. despite the original celebrations being unrelated, due to being celebrated at the same time Easter gradually adopted common festivities from Ostara until the original context was lost

Answering for 45:30 The Terra Nil apocalypse seems very different than the K-T (Dinosaur Extinction), but those birds could be surviving by simply scrounging for scraps and using flight to get to available food, the same way they survived the meteor [which not only killed the dinosaurs, but pretty much everything over 50 pounds, so early birds being small helped too]. And the meteor that killed the dinosaurs also blocked out the sun for almost two years, killing a lot of plants, so the Terra Nil apocalypse might be a bit more survivable for the birdies.

@CodaBlairLucarioEmperor Жыл бұрын
@@notreallythere477 I was just meaning with just how much more exponentially powerful Super Tengen Toppa is compared to Tengen Toppa.
@notreallythere477 Жыл бұрын
@@CodaBlairLucarioEmperor Actually on second thought, this warrants a real answer because so many people don't understand comedy writing. First, the "Super" adds nothing to the reference and makes it wordier, which undermines the impact of the joke. Second, "Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann" is also the title of the series, making it the better reference for recognizability. Third, even in the context of TTGL, STTGL is meant as a step *beyond* the utmost, basically the anime equivalent of a kid on the playground resorting to "infinity PLUS ONE" when playing pretend. So even within the logic of the joke, the Super Tengen Toppa Grandpa Lagann would be your oldest ancestor's dad.
@CodaBlairLucarioEmperor Жыл бұрын
@@notreallythere477 I wasn't thinking of how people wouldn't necessarily get the reference so thanks for explaining it to me. And yeah you are right on the infinity plus one thing too since there is the fact that Super Tengen Toppa isn't even a mech but a being made of pure energy.

The answer to the talk at the start of the stream is that Christianity succeeded to the extent it did because it coopted pagan holidays. Easter was once Oestar, which was a celebration of the return of spring, the bunnies is because bunnies be fuckin and the eggs is because fertility and plenty. It got turned into lent and all that jazz later.
@Aperson........... Жыл бұрын
Hey love you stuff SO MUCH
@lukas8670 Жыл бұрын
Eostre (pronounced Easter) is the pagan goddess of Fertility, New Life, and Spring (among other things.) Her spirit animal is a rabbit and eggs are the symbol of new life. The holiday easter falls in line with the start of spring and the end of winter. It symbolises new life after death. The date of Easter is the first Sunday after the full Moon that occurs on or after the spring equinox (which isn't a Christian thing). It has literally nothing to do with anything about Christianity.

@Caliginouscrow Жыл бұрын
Since no one seems to have mentioned it, and in case anyone is actually curious; Christian holidays largely have pagan traditions to thank for any of their fun aspects. The dour attitude of traditional Christians was not particularly appealing to the myriad 'barbarian' peoples they were in the process of converting to Christianity. While political advantages were appealing to the leaders, it was more effective to persuade the general populace to convert if they were allowed to retain their fun festivals. While I am sure the clergy was begrudging about it, they were willing to make this compromise--probably hoping the traditions would die out in time. Unfortunately for them, most people actually like fun... so they stuck around and spread.

I do understand Easter! I was raised christian and I am pagan. The egg hunt is a telephoned Ostara ritual. Easter is an expression of early Christian colonialism of various Germanic and Celtic cultures by the "Roman" empire (distinct from late christian colonialism, which was a pan-european colonial project, and also distinct from the pagan Roman imperial project). In fact, all of the Christian holidays were an attempt by imperial powers to remove celebration from the "productive" summer months, and create "productive" forces during the downtime of winter. Essentially, it was an expression of the colonial forces that would grow into capitalism. Yes, I am a propaganda fuck.
