Norris getting only 5k euro penalty for that is luck (and British bias).
@mishahendriks30205 күн бұрын
The decision for a penalty shouldn’t have taken until after the race. It should have been made during the race. This was a major safety breach and a total lack of knowledge of the rules, as rightly mentioned here before, Max knows the rules and uses them (overtakes in corners). And apparently Max and others can read, as there was a big flashing sign saying “aborted start”. Can’t be more obvious…

Peoples' opinions on drivers' wet-weather skill seems incredibly vibes-based in F1; for years I've heard Seb was a master in the wet, yet if you look at his record he's only won three weather-affected races, about 8% of the total wet races he's driven. Convinced one really good wet-weather drive will get people thinking a driver is good at them (in Seb's case, that Toro Rosso win) when reality they might bottle more of them than they succeed in (Canada 2011, Germany 2018, Singapore 2017)

Few things shown in this video that i want to give more feedback on for the people that maybe have not done any racing or even simulators. Verstappens insane throttle control at the start, not only controlling the wheel spin on the start by managing throttle but then using longer gears at low engines revs in order to deliver less torque to the back tires and be able to find grip quicker. Im sure all 20 drivers on the grid do it, but to which extend is the real talent which is why you see a greater start in Verstappens POV than that of Landos POV (this could also be attribute to the amount of water on the surface and even set up but those are variables we do not have data on) Verstappens foot is really just traction control at this point which is an incredible amount of control from him. His trail braking technique is remarkable as well. Trail braking is when you brake into the corner at high speeds and ease up as you approach the apex, again this is a technique used by every driver there and we lack a lot of data as the graphics only show an on/off which is easier to understand for casual viewers but is far from the reality of braking. Since everyone does it, the individual skills comes into play once again, because Verstappen manages to brake consistently in the same spot, time and time again regardless of the amount of water on the surface. Showing an incredible amount of skill and presicion having to adjust his footing by centimeters on braking depending on how dry or wet T1 was, which is immesurable by the naked eye but i assure you, if we had the data we could see those micro adjustments. The confidence on his car, track, setup and knowledge of racing in the rain. In motorsports one of the scariest things is driving in the rain. Jimmy Broadbent a sim racer turned real life racer has commented on how challenging it was for him to adapt to racing in the wet IRL as sims have never been close to replicating real weather conditions. As one unexpected formed pool of water can send your car flying of to the barriers. Interlagos was repaved before this event, meaning every patch of water, ever surface, everywhere where you expected pools to be form could change from the year before to this one. A change this big cant even be practice in simulator models like iracing as the scan they have of Interlagos is from a few pavements before. So the amount of confidence and trust you need to have on ur skills as a driver and the car, is actually impressive to say the least. I can go on and on, but i think i wrote way to much lol but i arealdy went throught the trouble of writing this shit so i might as well post it, cant wait to get cooked in the comments!

They say rain makes all cars equal on track. But rain also exposes the skill gap between drivers.
@ArthurRJ-Racing4 күн бұрын
That quote is big BS. You cannot go P17 to P1 without a good car. Also see how the Alpine cars were on the podium. Are they the greatest drivers after Max? They're good but not the best.
@TypeRTeg4 күн бұрын
@@ArthurRJ-Racing So every pundit and current or former racing drives says it negates car performance to a large degree but you say otherwise? That was a master class from Max in probably the 3rd best car this season. Nobody said it wasn't a good car but look at Lando and Oscar in the quickest cars, where did they start and where did they finish? Both Gasly and Ocon have won races in midfield cars, something not many on the grid can do. Call it luck or whatever ypu want but Max showed in 2016and 2024 that no one is on his level at that track in wet conditions. Just look at all other cars on lap 1 struggling and Max is on a different line, finding grip that no one else can but sure its all car right?
@AKStovall4 күн бұрын
@@ArthurRJ-Racing it takes immense talent to run a good race in the rain. it also takes a good bit of strategy and/or luck. the 17 to 1 run for Max was about 95% talent, 2% luck, and the rest the car. Same as Lando's win in Miami... gotta be able to put yourself in that position to benefit from a lucky break. Ocon and Gasly aren't bad drivers... they're just in bad cars. Rain is the ultimate equalizer. all the cars are basically equal in the wet... the drivers will force the cream to rise to the top.

@elecovanrenss13525 күн бұрын
this is a conspiracy. but what if norris and his team knew before hand it would not have been a red flag. until Calin pinto crashed his car. it was not a red flag. i think the FIA did not want to red flag it at all. and norris and his team knew this. therefor norris said it was luck because of the red flag situation, because he knew originally the FIA did not plan to use a red flag at all ,even drivers knew it should have been red flagged already even before Calin pinto his crash. so FIA wanted to just wait till weather is cleared and continue, because this would have given Norris a huge advantage since he did the pitstop under yellow flag.

Max even defended Lando when he arguably did get lucky with the safety car in Miami. Poor sportsmanship by Lando to express himself the way he did.
@borisdemelo4 күн бұрын
Lando himself attributed that Miami win to luck as well. But he’s not referring to Max when he says ‘not talent’ here. The question was specified about the red flag and he was referring to the gamble *FOR ALL DRIVERS* to stay out vs box. Most drivers gambled on there being a red flag, some like Lando gambled on no one crashing under a safety car (both reasonable gambles to take), but someone did ultimately crash under SC and red flagged the race. The ‘not talent’ statement has been taken wildly out of context by fans on social media. Lando has always complimented Max’s skill, but people forget all that after one out of context video gets circulated.

Since 2020, I've been watching the world feed on a big screen and the Verstappen in car on a small screen. Every race and every qualifying. Max is usually very brave and very aggressive. His judgement of going aggressive and waiting for his opportunity is rarely wrong. This race was extra special. The Hamilton and Piastri pass didn't look possible when he pulled them off. He was stuck behind Leclerc, aggressive, but waiting for his opportunity for a while. His one mistake the whole race was trying to overtake Leclerc in the center s. He had a slight lock up and lost a chunk of time. 2024 > 2016 Max is a champion and Lando is an also ran.

I am a bit guilty to liking the bashing of norris, but mostly since he got so hyped by the brits. Overall, he isnt doing a "bad" job, he is quantifyably significantly quicker than his teammate (17:4 in quali, 14:7 in races), and still everybody praises Piastri as the next big thing. In my opinion, he is doing quite well overall, but this season just mainly shows that its not easy to win, and that it is especially tough to beat verstappen over the course of a whole season even if he is driving only a half decent car

Objective and savage takedown of Norris
@tarettime93924 күн бұрын
I don’t think you can call it an objective takedown when you’re cutting the context of his statements out of the video. His statement was purely about the call to pit under VSC instead of taking a gamble that there would Eva red flag in the next few laps before the tires became undeivable. His “we did everything right” is purely about the decision making to come into the pits with the VSC called during his pit window. His “it’s not talent it’s just luck” was about guessing a red flag would happen soon and being right. He caps it off with “it’s just luck and we got unlucky” the tires were getting bad for him and George so they came into the pits with the VSC called. The VSC ended right after they entered the pit lane which was unlucky. Then there was a red flag a few laps after giving those who stayed out a free pitstop. What part of that is a matter of talent?
@ardakeremoglu14 күн бұрын
@@tarettime9392Yeah that statement was taken out of context everywhere. It's not that hard to understand what Norris meant, people just like to get on to the hype train and bash somebody. That being said, Norris could still do a better job at expressing what he thought about the situation imo.
@tarettime93924 күн бұрын
@ I agree he could have worded it better. If he had said even “it was just a matter of luck” that would have helped. But media/instagram pages only quoting “it’s not talent just luck” and saying he was talking about max or even some saying “max only won because of luck not talent” (which I actually saw some putting in quotes) was absolutely wild to see and definitely drove the hate against him
@bokebryant39855 күн бұрын
I think Norris was just talking about free pit stop in the red flag when he said it’s luck. HOWEVER, it actually took some talent to stay out there with those old inters under increasingly heavier rain, as a matter of fact, Norris wanted to pit so bad because he couldn’t handle the old tyres while driving behind Osama Bin Russell. So, even for the red flag alone, talent still plays a significant role.
@griffinfaulkner35144 күн бұрын
Hell, even Russell was begging to stay out, Mercedes screwed him big time when they brought him in. Norris wanted to pit even sooner, but the team knew a red flag was coming at some point and pushed him to stay out until Mercedes boxed Russell. I find it hilarious that the two leading cars at that point had the exact same incorrect strategy call come from completely opposite sources.
@bokebryant39854 күн бұрын
@ haha yes, funny how things are opposite. Russell always gamble and this season his gambling instinct is getting better and better

You clearly missed the important point which I expected from you yelistener. It's radio call of Max / Race Engineer GP. GP said It's a short heavy rain situation incoming and Max replied "If it's only 4 laps, we stay out", so Max stayed out was his decision knowing situation of heavy rain and expecting possible SC / Red Flag situation which happened. GP - Max radio comms were all about "This should be red flagged, yesterday was even better" topic. Without Colapinto's crash, this race would be red flagged anyway imo and Max would benefit from that too. It'snot luck, it's calculated experience based action.
