When you don’t hear what someone said to you, and you’ve already asked them to repeat themselves twice… sometimes the best plan is to just throw yourself into a ravine.

Society has a hard rule that you can ask for someone to repeat themselves a maximum of twice. The second time is embarrassing. A third time would be unthinkable. Therefore if you still can't hear them after the second repeat you are required by the laws of society to lie and pretend you did no matter how much confusion this causes.

Also, for the person repeating themselves, they need to change their phrasing after the first repeat because their original approach obviously isn't working.
@Ertwin123
@Ertwin123 7 жыл бұрын
As someone who can't hear well society can take that law and stick it somewhere the sun has never been. Also when you repeat something, if you say it again in the same tone, speed, volume and pitch, you have defeated the purpose of repeating yourself, and should be ashamed. Lastly I hate anyone who decides to say "nevermind" instead. It was important enough to say in the first place, you can damn well repeat yourself until I understand what you said.

@TilerP
@TilerP 7 жыл бұрын
This happens in 3 ways: 1. Like when someone tells you something then you just laugh but realize they were really asking you a serious question and the moment just gets awkward 2. When someone asks you "when's your birthday" and you say "no" and they say "what" and you're like "oh idk" then they walk away then 10 seconds later you're like "f me" 3. When someone asks you something and you say "what" then not even a millisecond later you realize what they said and answer before they're even able to finish restating the question

What's infuriating is when the person simply repeats her- or himself, using the same words, with the same fucking inflection, at the same volume, like it's suddenly going to become audible and intelligible just through repetition. And then acts like _you're_ unreasonable for demanding something which sounds like fucking English and not Charlie Brown's parents ordering through a McDonald's drive-thru.

Me- what’s up? Friend-’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe: All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe. “Beware the Jabberwock, my son! The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun The frumious Bandersnatch!” He took his vorpal sword in hand; Long time the manxome foe he sought- So rested he by the Tumtum tree And stood awhile in thought. And, as in uffish thought he stood, The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame, Came whiffling through the tulgey wood, And burbled as it came! One, two! One, two! And through and through The vorpal blade went snicker-snack! He left it dead, and with its head He went galumphing back. “And hast thou slain the Jabberwock? Come to my arms, my beamish boy! O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!” He chortled in his joy. ’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe: All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe. Me-...yes?

Instead of coming up with novel situations, they sit around asking each other what quirks of life they've noticed. If anyone says, "Oh, yeah! That's happened to me, too!" they make an overly dramatic sketch about it. It's not about the idea, but the execution.

What’s so much worse is when they say, “Habanero bike disjointed pizza.” “I’m sorry, what’d you say?” “I said PIZZA!” “I know but what else did you say?” “I said _new pizza”_ “I need you to repeat the whole thing, I didn’t hear anything from the original sentence.” *sigh so intense you’d think they were moving a couch* “Have you tried the new kind of pizza?” Boy having audio processing issues is fun

@jaggerra7
@jaggerra7 7 жыл бұрын
That's bad advice becuase you can end up agreeing to some terrible shit, or to doing something important and then not doing it and letting everyone down. Better to just admit that your brain is not putting meaning to the sounds and ask them to either re-word their sentence, or excuse yourself and either get a coffee or go for a walk and then come back and try again.

I destroyed my own hearing from constantly listening to loud music growing up, and everyday as an adult is a constant game of "what was that? Could you say that again?" and when I'm exhausted from doing that, I'll just guess at what they're saying and get it wrong half the time anyway. I can empathize with your frustration, and I'm very glad that my brain isn't sabotaging every single social encounter. It's hard enough as is to hear what people are saying in a mostly quiet environment- crowds and concerts are basically me telling everyone "hey sorry I can't hear you or understand you, tell me later" x1000 times 😂
