I find it quite deceiving, as well. It takes years of experience to make it look ‘easy & breezy’. Seeing Kush in his element is motivational. he belongs to a kitchen. In the meantime, I’m a total Mike: Doing my best, preparing good food and unjustly comparing my own journey to a master, expecting a masterpiece out of my own skills. I loved how honest (and funny) was Kush on criticizing Mike’s food. Loved this.
@KenS1267 Жыл бұрын
@@rulitossimplyrulitos1088 As a former professional chef the big difference between me and most amateurs is experience which is just a matter of practice which anyone can get and not immediately panicking as soon as you start cooking. Just do what Kush did in this video, figure out what is going to take the longest time and do that first and then move on from there. Also there are lots of things that are complicated to make that involve cheap ingredients. Even if you absolutely ruin them you're only out your own time. I probably went through 100lbs. or more of onions at home mastering French Onion soup. But you can pick up 25lb bags of onions for cheap.

One of the best moments for me in the kitchen was about 8 years ago, cooking with my uncle, who used to be head chef at a Michelin rosette restaurant. We were making a massive batch of spaghetti bolognese together for a family meal. My recipe, he said "Anything I can do to help?" I said, yeah we need to make a huge soffrito, so can you peel and dice 4 onions, carrots and like half a bulb of garlic" and he said "Yes Chef" I nearly wept from the 'fizzy feeling' as Kush puts it, plus the weird role-reversal, as usually it'd be me doing what he said in the kitchen, him being the actual, qualified chef.

It's also very useful to see that some technique does make a huge difference for a dish - so it's worth going extra mile!

skill is not the factor that is differentiating them, it's experience. Kush can visualize the fish he likes to eat, "small fish chunks, deep fried not shallow, chopped cabelonero..........". Kush then improvises by adding he *wants to eat*, carrot puree, fried egg. Mike panicked and was used to planning ahead with recipes, not thrown in with only words. He couldn't make out what he wanted and resulted in him doing the bare minimum following the words, chopped fish into whatever size chucks, need to fry so let's just use the least amount of oil because I don't wanna use too much, cabelonero whole cause why not. There was a time where he improvised when he added the fish sauce to it. But he punched himself down cause it wasn't in the words, so he felt like he cheated. contras that to Kush's reaction, he was so happy and surprised Mike had such a good idea, and even implied that he would have done the same if he knew there was fish sauce. This overview is in hindsight and not trying to throw shade, this experience is very had to explain to someone unless they either experienced it or watched it themselves. I applaud sorted for having such a good video idea. But feels as though they didn't explain it well enough. If Mike or the people who watched this not only take away the surface lvl of the video, which was that Kush dominated Mike. But also learn important it is to "visualize and confidently take steps towards" the end goal, if he did, I'm confident Mike's cooking will be elevated at least two levels about Barrie and Jamie's.

Another thing i really like about this video is how it's not got the time pressure so mike can really do relatively well - with the stress being the obtuse instructions not time pressure

Thanks for yet another Sorted video! I was recommended a video by a friend recently because I'm Canadian. I thought it would be fun to see your approach to it since it has a history element as well for Ben. Its a Canadian dish called Rubaboo, also known an Pemican Stew. I don't know if I can leave a link but the video is called "Rubaboo - Pemmican Stew of Canadian Mounties" by the KZbinr "Tasting History with Max Miller". Thanks again for the video and all the best!

Brilliant concept. Another great one would be each team member cooking for all the others. Or Kush and Ben trying to recreate LiZiQi recipes.

Would love to see the chefs recreate a LiZiqi recipe. She’s amazing. Her videos are for the soul as much as anything else. So calming and incredible. Love the woman ❤
