@Parkesview4 жыл бұрын
SailorIda3 here’s the thing. The amount of money the crown gets, including security, allowances for purchasing, is dwarfed by the amount of money they bring in through tourism, merchandising and land. 95% of the land the royal family own is controlled by the government, and it claims almost the entirety of its revenue. Add to that the fact that the royals are unpaid ambassadors to other nations, living representations of our history, and hold next to no real power, there is quite literally no reason to remove them. I appreciate your point, but the fact of the matter is they’re worth far more to us financially than they cost to keep.

They are old fashioned, indeed, as they originate from the Middle Ages (that's also why they are called Jordan almonds).
@elgarsfaith31944 жыл бұрын
In Italy we use confetti (the almond treats) as a gift for big celebrations, such as weddings or religious events! They put them in small, posh bags. Many people keep them for memory, as they don’t really spoil. I wouldn’t say they are pretentious, they’re more of a traditional thing! I do think those were overpriced, as confetti made of just almond and coating are usually the least expensive ones ☺️
@elgarsfaith31944 жыл бұрын

A 10 y/o who loves lobster might be pretentious, or just from the Maritimes where lobster is the commoners food 😂

Currently visiting London and went to 'Where the Pancakes are' for breakfast and also Crosstown doughnuts, both recommended by you guys. And both utterly delicious! The pancakes royale with streaky bacon and hollendaise is amazing. Visited Borough Market too and loved every minute. Thanks for the recommendations!

My grandpa used to have silver Georgian almonds at Christmas time. They still make me think of him, they were delicious. Damnit....need to go stock up now.

Dragées can be found on tables, as a gift for guests during weddings in France. It’s traditionnal. They can be made of almond or chocolate (my personnal favorite 😇).

I preferred snow crab, and when I grew up I stopped liking seafood.

I have always thought crab was better than lobster. Not that lobster is bad.

I grew up on the west coast of the states. I’m also Asian so anything aquatic I would happily eat. Salmon. Shrimp. Squid. Lobster. Crab. Mussels. Clams. Urchin. 🍽 I had a lot of friends from different cultures growing up. I ate a lot of different foods 💕
