It was antipasti, not a cheese board. Did have cheese but lots of non cheese items. And anchovy paste by itself is very strong and disgusting. It's meant to be an ingredient, not a stand alone. Most people love cinnamon but then why was a spoonful of straight cinnamon ever a 'challenge'?

@Parkesview
@Parkesview 4 жыл бұрын
SailorIda3 here’s the thing. The amount of money the crown gets, including security, allowances for purchasing, is dwarfed by the amount of money they bring in through tourism, merchandising and land. 95% of the land the royal family own is controlled by the government, and it claims almost the entirety of its revenue. Add to that the fact that the royals are unpaid ambassadors to other nations, living representations of our history, and hold next to no real power, there is quite literally no reason to remove them. I appreciate your point, but the fact of the matter is they’re worth far more to us financially than they cost to keep.

When I first saw the "Lingue" I thought it was Merveilles (a sweet pasty sheet we eat in Switzerland - and also some regions of Italy and France - aroud Carnival season) Might be a good video theme to try food specialties from other countries and see what you think!

Jordan almonds are often served at weddings in my family. I'm part Italian. We never had gold ones though, they are usually pastel colours.

I instantly knew what the sugared almonds were... to be fair, one of my friends as a child was very posh! Her mum always had a little bowl of them out on a coffee table.

Not posh at all when it was an italian household 😁. Those almonds are a staple at weddings to gift and throw and are sold in many colours.

Anchovy paste is a completely normal thing in Italy… In my family we have always had a tube in the fridge. It is normally used on toast, with ham and cheese, or a teaspoon melted with oil and onion for tomato sauce. A small amount spread on pizza or focaccia is also good

we eat almond dragees a lot in Greece and they are very traditional and common! Usually given as a wedding favour but also just awesome to have! we love them! I wouldn't call them pretentious (usually covered in dark chocolate and sugar)

The dragees in Catalonia ( and I guess in Spain, but I don’t remember the name in Spanish ) are called “confits” and are also typical for weddings and baptisms, but not golden, in pastel colors. Ok, I checked, in Spanish are calle “peladillas”. Maybe it is me, but they feel old fashioned. They are traditional but it is one of those traditions that feel (to me) passè. I see in the comments it seems to be a Mediterranean thing. I love the comments, and the videos, of course,

They are old fashioned, indeed, as they originate from the Middle Ages (that's also why they are called Jordan almonds).

In Italy we use confetti (the almond treats) as a gift for big celebrations, such as weddings or religious events! They put them in small, posh bags. Many people keep them for memory, as they don’t really spoil. I wouldn’t say they are pretentious, they’re more of a traditional thing! I do think those were overpriced, as confetti made of just almond and coating are usually the least expensive ones ☺️
@elgarsfaith3194
@elgarsfaith3194 4 жыл бұрын
Ps, little curiosity; for us, when we say confetti we think of those treats. English “confetti” for us is “coriandoli”; I remember when we first learned of this difference, many of us were so confused for a second!
