after ben's announcement that barry had 30 seconds remaining we see at least 50 seconds of footage that was not made up of multiple shots that actually filmed the same scene. why always use a "timer" when it is artificial like this? i think there has only been 1 or 2 times in the history of this channel someone went over the time limit. somehow everyone always finishes just in the nick of time, yet we never seen them go slightly over. and just to answer your point @xoysin, they have done practically the exact budget battle you mentioned. i believe they were titled grocery store challenges if you would like to search the channel for videos of the battle you are requesting.

That was definitely a tough one. With those ingredients I think I would do a smoked haddock that was dredged in the cup of soup mix and then coated with the crisps and pair that with a compote made from the rhubarb, tomato and tarragon. And then, I think a bread pudding with the malt loaf and some of the rest of the rhubarb would do nicely too.
@ashleywyatt126610 ай бұрын
Exactly what I was thinking as soon as I seen the crisps . But I would have used the cup a soup and made a sauce with the tomatoes and tarragon too drizzle over the fish and a nice toasted malt loaf as a base

@@ashleywyatt1266 The cup a soup was definitely the wild card in this thing. I had also considered maybe a cup a soup infused custard, but couldn't figure out how I would use it as part of a dish.
@grouch31410 ай бұрын
I was thinking similar. Haddock panne'd in the crisps, with a thick sauce made with the tomato, tarragon and rhubarb, with just a little bit of cup a soup to thicken and bind it Definitely malt loaf as a dessert. Either a bread and butter sort of thing, or with stewed apples, raisins, winter spices and custard but the apples might have taken too long
@Oberky10 ай бұрын
Pretty much the same ballpark I was in as well. I just couldn't figure out which thing was on top of the box?
@Bryan_K_2743510 ай бұрын
I might do a cheeky fish pie with the smoked haddock, soup mix, tomatoes, tarragon and kettle chips. Don't think there's enough chips to rehydrate to use as a mash potato top though but I'll roughly crush the whole bag up to top it off, the bottom layer would go a little soggy and mash-esq while the top stays crunchy for texture. The malt loaf and rhubarb would be a simple bread butter pudding of sorts. Pretty straight forward segregation of sweet and savoury. If time wasn't a concern I'd put the fish pie mix into a silicon mould to freeze and panne it (twice) for a super indulgent arancini of sorts. I'd make some kinda salsa with the tarragon, tomatoes and probably a bit of that rhubarb water/juice that would otherwise go into the other (sweet) dish.

I never heard of a malt loaf. not even sure what that is,bread made with malt added? Is it a leaven bread or what we in the U.S. at least would call a quick bread?

I would've fried the fish with the cup a soup as flour and crushed crisps as breadcrumbs, made a bernaise/tartar sauce with the remaining soup, tarragon and rhubarb, and then blended the malt loaf with vinegar and reduced for a drizzle.

Really tricky box! Jay for sure had the right idea of keeping the sweeter ingredients separate, there just wasn't enough time to work out how to incorporate everything together. I'm still stumped, I think I would have used the crisps to pané the fish, maybe using the dry soup mix instead of flour? But how to then put rhubarb tomato and malt loaf on that plate is a mystery, I'd probably have resorted to blending stuff into a sauce and hoping! Will we see a chef make a single dish with all these ingredients (plus a dash of swagger)?

I like Ben trying to give Barry's dish some compliments, meanwhile Barry's going "This is not good"

I would have used the crisps and eggs to make the coating for fish goujons. I loved the rhubarb and custard though - I will be giving this a go
