Those aren't just suits of armor. Aura is called the guillotine because after she takes control of someone she cuts off their head. But their bodies are still her slave. There's a human inside of each of those armors. She just cut off their head so that they wouldn't have a mind capable of fighting her magic constantly.

So fun thing with Linie. If you watch the way she fights, all her force comes from taking advantage of momentum and gravity. Most of her attacks are down and side swings. Stark's wreckless attack forces her to swing up against gravity. If she hit him as hard as she'd been hitting him wide open like that he would have died, but he realized after the fact that she literally couldn't and she wasn't as strong as he thought.

My favorite take on Fern's speed is a Japanese comment I saw somewhere (or even heard in a video?) saying that it might be a result of how Fern desperately practiced firing off her (looong range) shots to become a good enough mage in the little time left before Heiter passed away.
@nucleargandhi2709

I take it as simply another expression of her urgency compared to Frieren. Fern is always pushing the party to find solutions, take action, and move forward, so it would make sense that, compared to immortals like Frieren and Lugner, a mage of her skill would make haste in casting battle magic.

As it has been said , humans and elves and demons have very different growth curves . Humans live the shortest but their power grows the fastest keeping up with the growth of their body and brain . There have been human mages who defeated Frieren in the past , using less mana than her . That being said , that comment was RIGHT. And it also makes me think, did Heiter purposefully set her up to fire long distance Zoltraak because he realised how useful that will be for her later on ?( From his experience during the ten year long journey) That's probably why he said that when she is able to fire a rock in the distance, Fern would be ready to set out . And this is where it pays off .

Aura having an army of not just empty armour but of people she'd controlled, still in their armour, that have since turned to literal dust/decaying mud because she's just basically used them without mercy since acquiring them was utterly horrific. Seeing the Graf's son's family crest on that armour, then knowing that he'd had the will to resist for a bit but Aura collected him anyway, that was just gut-punch after gut-punch. Damn.

It is easy to miss, but Fern and Lugner fight for the most part was in slow motion. Like even as Fern fired off multiple spells at once, it is still slow motion. We did not see the true casting speed of these two until we zoomed out to Stark vs Linnie where time go back to normal speed of these two and we saw a kaleidoscope of magic hitting one another.

I want to point out one thing. In this show (and in original manga), Japanese word "Jin-rui", which is often translated into English word "human", "human race" or "mankind", does include human (homo-sapience), elf, and dwarf (and maybe more). People in Frieren's world do not use "demi-human" or similar words. Japanese word "nin-gen" which could also be translated into English word "human", is used for mentioning human (only). It seems that the translator of this show did not aware of that difference.

One of the things I love about this show is how the characters reflect TTRPG characters so well. Why is the human warrior capable of such feats of strength and durability? Because he is. He trained for it. Any time someone acts surprised when a human character in a Japanese piece of media bench presses a tank or something i'm just like "damn, must just be that strong" because I view all humans in all fictional media on a Dragon Ball Z human power scaling. If a human trains enough they can do just about anything in fictional media, it's that shrimple.

Frierens magic = human magic The church was more or less the primary force in humanity struggle against the demons - not so much for spiritual needs (afterlife) at first, I guess. Imo Lügner, at that moment he shouted to Line, just wanted that Fern looked away to Stark.

Frieren's magic is not human magic, it's Elven magic. Because human magic is elven magic that was adapted by Flamme, her master, for human use. That one is a bit of a spoiler so I won't go into it right now unless you want me to. Humans could use Elven magic that they had learned from the Elves in ancient times, but they didn't have a dedicated magic system of their own or magic schools to teach it. Human mages were apprentices to either Elven mages or to humans that had studied magic under the tutelage of an elf. Flamme is credited as the Founder of the Human style of magic. A derivative of Elven magic fit for humans so that they can learn it easier. So when Frieren says humanity's magic, that is nothing more than the term frequently used in these settings to describe something that is used by most humanoid races of the story, in this case Humans, Elves and Dwarves. So in reality what Frieren should have said is that the Elven magic used by all other races could never reach the heights that Demon magic could reach if allowed to be refined for thousands of years.

I think the reason Fern's so quick at firing off her spells may have to do with her demeanor. I think mana is normally just gushing out of you and into the world (we see more of that in the next episode); when you want to cast a spell, you normally have to gather your mana first. But with how low key and buttoned down Fern is, I think her mana is always concentrated at her core. Basically, she's like a gunslinger whose hand is always just casually resting on her gun. When she goes to actually draw, she's already half way there compared to other people.
@saynay302

That would apply to Frieren as well though, so I don’t think that is the only explanation.
@M_Northstar
@M_Northstar 9 ай бұрын
@@saynay302 I also considered that, and I agree that means it can't be the WHOLE reason. On the other hand, Frieren is an elf, and naturally more deliberate and slow in her actions. Plus, as we see in the next episode, it's not an inborn inclination for Frieren, the way it seems to have been for Fern even before she was trained. Plus, as we also see in later episodes (ep 15, I think) Frieren can be pretty quick on the draw herself.

This confused me at first too (and I'm sure someone else has clarified since you're ahead on patreon) but whenever they say "humanity's magic" or "humanity's knowledge" especially when said by a demon, what they mean by "humanity" are people/beings that aren't demons. So humans, elves, and dwarves would fall under this "humanity" umbrella they keep referring to. I don't speak Japanese so maybe there's just a translation issue where one word can mean multiple things. I wish the author had come up with a different word for the non-demon races as a whole to avoid this confusion.

Imo while Stark being able to just tank the hit obviously doesn't really work in a physical level but it works on an emotional level. Linie basically shortcuts her way to being strong by just copying others but she doesn't copy the years and years of work those people put into crafting those moves and techniques. So those imitations will never match the originals that people took the time and effort to hone.

Too bad most people will not notice raging hypocrisy of Frieren calling demons 'mindless beasts' at the same time as demons portrayed to give philosophical speeches about pride. Sure, demons are single-minded but so is she. The only real difference is probably their lack of empathy. But I wonder how much of it is intended character of Frieren and how much is of author's own confusion and prejudice.
@MSDoL
@MSDoL 9 ай бұрын
I would not say it is hypocrisy on her part. I can provide some arguments to that but they are spoilers so read at your discretion. Spoiler 1) Macht's ark shows that for all the effort he has put into trying to understand emotion that was most commonly related to him (malice) he failed. Malice is an emotion that is arguably accessible to both beasts and humans and that shows that demons have a problem in that regard. Probably only emotions that demons can feel are pride, fear and passion for something. That I would argue confirms that they don't have emotional intelligence. 2) The demons dissipate into mana particles like monsters, which justifies Flamme's argument about them. It is not ""Demons are monsters.", it is "Let's name monsters that can talk 'demons'." The majority of monsters seem not natural, they may be a "Dark god" curse on this world (not confirmed but probable due to Japanese fantasy tropes). So they are most likely a phenomena not a creature so assigning a "mind" to it seems a lot like fetishism to me. All in all, I would argue that the ability to logically think does not make one classify as having 'intelligence' and 'mind' is a more complex subject, that is why Frieren is factually correct and a part of her grief is that she can't really be mad at demons tough she certainly is and this feels stupid for her. It is like being mad at water because your village was flooded and everybody died.

It is intentional, Frieren is quite sociopathic as an individual, while demons are sociapathic as a collective. She had real hatred that has turned into apathetic acceptance of the fact that demons are mindless beast, which just gets reinforced everytime she meets a demon. At current point, Humanity is not strong enough that they can afford to show mercy to demons and give them a chance to be 'domesticated.' It's a fight for survival and not just some political and resource rivalry.

I'll just make an observation here: Originally this story was about the demon king having been defeated and everything being back to being nice and peaceful. Statues of the hero's party were erected all over the country to celebrate the ones who defeated the demons. But extremely soon the author just decided to retcon this decision, because it would have made it impossible to continue a generic fantasy action story like this. Now suddenly the demons are back (or were they never "gone" in the first place?). So all the statues of the "heros" being erected was just a LIE. This author has destroyed the initial premise of his story faster than you can say "genius writing".

The entire premise of the story UNDENIABLY was presented as: "After evil has been defeated and peace returned to the land, yadda, yadda, Frieren is sad, because her friend died." Every facette of the first episode reflected that notion and we never were presented with even a hint, that could lead us to believe the contrary. Frieren herself travelled the country for DECADES after the defeat of the demon king and we were lead to believe, that everything was fine and dandy. NO EXCUSES!@@WordoftheElderGods

The Demon King was killed, his Sages either sealed or handicapped, and thus his forces were scattered, no longer having leaders to rally them together. The war ended and a widespead peace was established for mankind, but the story NEVER implied that ALL demons were gone. The author didn't retcon anything, you just misunderstood what it meant for the war to be 'over'. Remember, this is still >80 years< after the fact. An entire generation of humans have been born and grown old without having to worry about if the Demon King's Army was right around the corner, and it's only recently that any of the surviving demons have gathered enough strength to reignite conflict on even the scale of a single city. That is a massive win, no matter how you look at it. Nothing about the heroes' victory is "lie".
@chronosclaimsall
@chronosclaimsall 9 ай бұрын
I mean, not necessarily. The premise is "Beyond Journey's End", meaning what happened after their journey to defeat the demon king. If it were just 5, 10, or even 15 years after the Demon King's defeat, maybe it could have been more slice of life-y and peaceful. But it's been almost 100 years, which is a pretty reasonable timeframe for demons to start restructuring their forces. Also, the hero's party killed the demon KING, but they didn't eradicate all demons in existence. Nor all monsters for that matter, so there are still monsters in this world that can cause harm and destruction. They killed the Demon King and were celebrated for that achievement, but it doesn't mean they made the world suddenly completely safe -- they just took out the *biggest* threat. If it were that simple/easy to wipe out all the demons then Frieren would have done it on her own by now, considering she's killed enough of them to be renowned as 'the Slayer' among their ranks. Side note: The statues were generally erected in each town after the heroes saved that town in particular, with the biggest one being erected in their home/starting kingdom once they had returned (plus Himmel wanted to have the statues erected so Frieren wouldn't feel completely alone once the rest of the party had died).
